Watched the World Cup recap on SBS this morning. They showed Suarez score against England...geez, will we miss him.

This is probably one of the most important times in the clubs recent history. We cannot spend for the sake of spending. We spend on players who are at the right price and more importantly, improve the squad. We don't want another Andy Carroll situation which sets us back a year or so. All these other clubs seem to get brilliant players for 20-30mill then we overpay a lot for lesser players. Can for 10mill looks a bargain, Lambert for 4mill looks decent, Lallana for 27mill could be hit or miss but I'll back him in to shine.

Apparently we are planning to bid for Loic Remy, whom I really haven't seen enough of coz I dread watching Newcastle games for the 2nd half of last season. Anyone got a summary? I know he's a good finisher but just wondering how his allround game would hold up

NUFC Tiger , you can help here, buddy ;)

Would be a great addition to your squad bud - lots of pace and forward running power. At his best when running with the ball at his feet and then cutting in from a wide position. He's deceptively tall as well (around 6 ft I think?) for a player with great pace and technical ability.

Word is we might go back in for him (if he wants to come back that is). Arsenal were getting linked to him but apparently the $80k a week wage demands are proving a bit of a stumbling block. With the addition of Sanchez though, I think he'd be wasted at Arsenal. Might be a good impact player off the bench but in a good team (like a Liverpool) could see him pushing towards the 20 goal a season mark.

If the rumours of you going for Lukaku are true, I'd make him first priority but I'd have Remy over Benteke personally (who'd also be cheaper as well most likely).

I would have a lamp post over Benteke for us

I'm sure if you make a decent offer, we could be tempted sufficiently to part with Obertan. His pace would help make him a handy replacement for Suarez ;)

You don't rate Benteke? Did you see him play at all the year before last?

He is fine in a Villa team where they hoof it to him, won't do jack shit here at Liverpool

We can just exchange Obertan with Aspas, like to like replacement ;)

Speaking of Aspas, gone to Seville on loan they say

Haha thanks Cooldude but I think I'll pass on the as(s). :D

Just on him, I'm a bit surprised he wasn't loaned out last season (or this coming season) to an English club. Some players take time to find their feet in England and he might be one of those who take a bit of time to adjust to the game.

Liverpool need to find the next Suarez. He cost $22.8m which is a bargain. We do not need a $30m striker who is at their peak already. We need the young guy who is cheaper with massive upside.

who is the next suarez?

Stuffed if I know. But I didn't know who the first Suarez was either. All I can remember was thinking after he started at Liverpool he might be an awesome player one day if he could actually hit the target :D He figured that out quickly enough.

Someone is getting paid a shit load of money to find him - they need to do their job.

AKA Lazar Markovic

Question has to be asked what recruiters were thinking when we bought aspas for that much coin.. Someone was telling BR to buy him.. Then when he got here he was good all of pre season, had a bad couple first games in the league and was written off by the coaching staff and shafted to the bench.. Was deemed not good enough not long after being here at all..

Question has to be asked wtf happened and why'd we piss that money down the drain on him..

He actually had a very good season with Celta Vigo in 2012/13, he was considered to be a very good player in Spain and as you said he was excellent in preseason last summer, looked very sharp in the first game against Stoke. His biggest problem at Liverpool was that Luis Suarez played in his position, and obviously never missed a game so Aspas never really got a consistent run in the first team. Some players can be thrown into games late on and pick up the pace immediately, some need consistent game time to get up to speed, he's obviously in the latter category, but being in a title race with very few games on offer he was never going to get the opportunity. By no means a terrible footballer, and £7m isn't exactly a massive amount of money anyway. He probably doesn't have a future with us but it doesn't really bother me that much, not every transfer is going to be a raging success particularly for a fee that small.

If he plays Surez' position can he take his place?

What is happening with right and left backs? Does someone seriously have to abduct Johnson before BR will do something?

Definitely not at that level. He was about the right level of player to fill in as squad depth last season but with the team progressing and rapidly improving in quality in all areas of the pitch he doesn't have a future with us.

Moreno still first choice target at LB, talk of Bertrand coming in but if that happens it will be to replace Enrique as our #2 option, not as our #1 LB (ie I think we'll start next season with either Moreno and Enrique or Moreno and Bertrand). Haven't heard much about incoming right backs although I agree Johnson definitely needs replacing. His body is torn to shreds and as a result his confidence and form have suffered over the last season or 2, and at his age I can't see him returning to his best.

I don't ever want Bertrand entering the city of Liverpool.
