Someone was going on about him being "close to tears" at the B&F. Can someone confirm?

I would love for Pig to stay - just wonder how much space we have left under the salary cap. I'm sure that Anthony's leaving has already been factored in. I'm not sure who else we can shed if we wanted to make the space to keep Pig.

Jacobs isnt signed on, surely if push came to shove....we could delist jacobs to keep greenwood...

He did seem like he was delivering a parting speech at his office post resignation piss up.

I still hold out hope.

******* hell. Knew we shouldn't have signed Bastinac for 5 years or whatever it was...this is all Bastinac's fault! I prefer Jacobs than Bastinac. Hope we make some room for Levi. Trade Mullet out.
Card this f***er.......the club met all of the requirements that came from Pickering and Greenwood, and if they still continue to say no then, I will be to wish him all the best elsewhere. Like what was said 5 yrs ago you're either with us or against us. It'll steel our players even more seeing Levi in an another guernsey if it doesn't then this group has wasted our time.

If it is purely about money then just go. Have to buy in and have to want to be part of club, culture, future success. I could understand if it was Port knocking at the door but the doggies or pies? No argument about making hay whilst sun shines, but if that is the only motivator then I'd prer we don't play the game. Great year from Levi, I wish him luck. Good luck with the bucks, (coach or money)

It's been great this week having North as a club players want to come to. But Geelong and Hawthorn have also been clubs where in-house players needed to accept a bit less to be part of the success they helped build. I know they lost important players when they were offered ridiculous amounts to leave - but those guys had experienced the flags they had worked for first.

Clubs that are more desperate than North are offering Levi more cash and more years. If those are more important to him, North can't outbid. We have to hope that a reasonable offer, combined with the wish to go higher with the guys he had played with from the start, would keep him for another contract.

So what your saying is its OK to pay 400 for Higgins (who IMO is well below Levi) but Levi has to be happy with 300-350?

sounds like a crock to me, Higgins should be paying US to come.....

You don't actually know Higgins is on $400k. You don't know that Greenwood hasn't already been offered the same but knocked it back.

H2H's point is at the successful clubs player accept under all the time. Our players are going to have to accept unders too if they want to stay together and be successful. If Greenwood would rather take the money then we can't really compete with that.

Fingers crossed. Difficult situation when you are somewhere you want to be but you think you might be worth more than what they are prepared to offer.

Levi is the kind of player we all love but I worshipped #36 back in the day & #18 more recently & they both left so while I am torn, I will survive.

I don't know the numbers, and I expect none of us does (fair enough, as it's none of our business).

As a general rule, it costs more to get a player in than to keep one. That's life. Everyone says it. Levi will be offered more by clubs who are desperate because players are walking out on them than by North, where he is already and where players are keen to come. It's the same position players at top clubs have been in for a while. Does he want to turn around at the end of his career and be Sam Mitchell or James Kelly, or does he want to be... Actually I can't think of a player at one of the really good teams who has bolted for money before winning a flag first.

I keep coming on here looking for the "Levi Signed" thread. I don't like where this is going - the stuff Walshy was saying on Friday was optimistic spin

I'm not a troll however I am a big Levi fan

If I can ask a serious question. Why would the club not lock away Levi in the first instance before determining how much cap space was left to chase Higgins?

The simple equation seems to me if Levi stays than your definitely in front however if Levi leaves for a contract that he believes is more reflective of his market value than Higgins would need to finish top two B&F for you to be in front which seems a stretch given his history of injuries

Agree with this, but it's also the length of the offer as well. Blacky was given a long contract last year to keep Freo away. I would be more than happy to offer Levi 4, so should the club. When players realise they are putting up elite numbers it's amazing how they go from strength to strength. I feel Levi, and Ben 10 for that matter, will just get better in the coming years. 400k for 4 IMO.

The simple answer would be that it is not a matter of cap space.

You would imagine given that he's had one great year and apparently been on good-ish coin for a few years that there are really only two options from the club's point of view:

- 3 or 4 years on more conservative coin (say 300k-ish)
- 1 year with options on quite a bit more

Losing him would be a genuine loss however it is what it is to some extent. All this "played in the wrong position" stuff is fine but at the end of the day you need to force your way into a team. Sometimes you have to play where the team needs you. Daw's "best position" is probably FF, that doesn't mean we just cart Petrie out of the way to make things easier for him.

Surely we get a first rounder for Greenwood?

He's been a great plater this year. He is tough and he runs all day which is something that the rest of our inside brigade don't have.

Fair Question brother - makes sense to me - I hope they were not banking on loyalty given who Levi's manager is

Offers a different side option through the middle. A left footer through there can wrap around and kick goalward as opposed to a right footer kicking toward the boundary/flank. We have all seen him do this all year. Offer him 4 years with an optional 5th. Pay him well and Levi will be worth every cent. Had to suffer with being played as a tagger as well as had a near "Jessie Smith" ankle injury. The club must keep this bloke.

100% agree - he should get what Higgins is getting
