For those who know a bit more about him, could McKenzie play games next year?
Yes and no.

Physically he's got a mature body (weights), he's certainly physical enough in the way he goes about it, and he's tall and very strong.

BUT, he's still very raw in a full-time footy sense having only had this year at an elite level after two years of basketball, and learning to play smarter against equally big - and much more seasoned - key defenders may take some time.

IMO he could play straight up, but he won't be necessarily all that effective for a while.

Remember it took Hawkins a few years...

For me this year Petracca, Garlett and McDonald.
Gotta take Petracca with pick 1 as the best player in the draft.
Garlett is a jet. Great skills, explosive pace. Slices through the lines. We need to inject this into the team.
Last year our delivery into the F50 was at times almost in slow motion.
McDonald looks a good size. Still not sold on Bruce as as a KPD. I like him but I think
we still need insurance down there and I believe Oscar can play forward aswell.
Wouldn´t be against taking McKenzie but we have Spencer as a project player at a similar size.
Pick 41 who knows best available could be a Puopolo in there but please no more Half Back Flankers
Spencer is about the same height - 196cm to RM's 197cm - but is massively different in style and body; McKenzie is 107kg and Spencer is listed at 84kg, even accounting for incorrect listing - let's say he's 90kgs - that's a lot of bulk difference.

Hawkins was and still is the puppy fat kid
Mckenzie is powerful.

Hey!!!
You cant be coming over here and poaching our kids before we've even drafted them:mad:

:p

why is everone so keen to get rid of Jack Steven? By next year he`ll be 25, the age bracket we were missing at the end of RL`s tenure, so IMO we have to keep him. Or do we start all over again, piss off AR & blame it on him for not keeping the middle aged players. Some punters have short memories.
I don't know that people are "keen" to get rid of him but it is worth hypothesising.

I have been big on the J. Steven topic (I was one of the first when Cameron was being discussed months ago and copped a hammering).

But it's about reading the play. Big name players that don't sign extensions when going into the last year of a contract that also becomes a free agent is risky business. We've seen many examples of this resulting in the club losing the player and we need to be open to this. Given we have ample salary cap room at the moment and have had several discussions with his management without an extension (as confirmed by Pelican), we need to start thinking about what it COULD all mean.

The timing is even more conspicuous. He comes out of contract and becomes a FA at a time when A) We are expected to win the wooden spoon and B) GWS players come out of contract. As a Band 1 FA (presumably, and if rules remain), he would net us Pick 2 in the draft in the event that we finish last (giving us 1 and 2). This gives us a lot of ammo in the year that several GWS big fish (Shiel, Treloar, Cameron) come out of contract (we have currency to trade PLUS pre-season pick 1 as a bargaining tool). It also clears up BIG cap room to welcome one of these or a FA or two if we choose to go down that road at the end of next season. Imagine what we COULD do if we can sell the vision at the end of next season.

Attracting players will be hard at that point of the re-build BUT we will definitely have the cap-room by that point to front-end some contracts to make them feel better about it. Imagine bringing in a couple of kids through the draft, a couple of those big name GWS players and a big name FA in the one year. They would join the current nucleus. A couple more years of building up the young talent and we could really fast track that rebuild.

The club will probably want to hold the aces here. Keep everything where it is for now, do some work behind the scenes. If they can't make a move like the above re-sign our most promising player. Absolutely. If he hasn't re-signed yet, though, we need to have a back-up plan.

You're stealing our pie supporter petracca tho
We worked hard to get Petracca. Do you even realise how hard it is to play as bad as we did this season?
We won the first few games and the powers to be had to rein it in.......
Allowed em off the leash against Freo after Lenny announced his retirement

When hes playing for us, the first time he goes behind the goals and gets close to the Collingwood cheer squad he wont support them no more.
Abuse has a way of swaying somebodys allegience:eek:
:p:p:p

On a serious note. Hows Sharenberg going with his injury. Is he OK to go with the pre season. He would be like a bonus player next yr after last season being a write off for the poor kid.

Someone help me here.

Pe-trar-ka
or Pe-track-a
He will be like Reiwoldt. Commentators all started with Ree-walt. Then he told them it was Ree-Volt. I notice most never changed.
Petracca can just let us know when he receives his Rising Star nom in round 1

I'm not that sold on Cockatoo. From what I gather he doesn't finish all that well. From that sort of player I want it through the sticks or in the hands of a goalkicker.
Interesting, from what (admittedly little due to injuries) I've seen, he's a very good kick and a capable finisher. Fantastic athlete too.

I've called him "Ree-volt" all along. The name is German so technically that's how it should be pronounced. :)

Gets games early, yes; makes a big impact early, probably not so much.

Still needs to learn how to use his body against grown men. And I love the kid, ask around.
