Maxwell in for Doolan. O Keefe out for starc. Smith at 3. Watson back in for marsh for indian series. Hughes at 3 when home. Really need some young guys blitzing the shield early on. I think Rogers is just about done.

O'Keefe got crap wickets and will never succeed at Test level. Lyon everyone knows has been good at Test level.

Lyon's two wickets (@ 110 I might add) were a leg side stumping and a number 11 paddle sweep slog that went straight up. But yeah, O'Keefe's wickets were crap..

And 3 of O'Keefe's 4 wickets were either top/ thick outside edges that should have been dispatched and a straight ball that Shezhad inexplicably played all around of.

4 is still better than 2. Lyon bowled horrible all Test, the fact every single one of your posts says O'Keefe sucks doesn't make it true.

He's better than Lyon, and showed that on debut.

I'm not disputing that 4 is better than 2. But to say a leg side stumping is worse than a player going all around a straight one shows how little a clue you have.

As for that statement:

So we should drop Lyon(based on one game) in favour of a guy who has only played one game?
ok.

Lyon sits 9th on the overall wicket tally for Australian spinners
But we do play a lot more tests these days. Totals dont quite tell the full story

western royboy saw him in the nets.

Didn't like what he saw

Not sure where I posted it - but in summary it had me worried. From memory a few geniuses tried to make McGrath in to a side on bowler, it didn't work and fortunately he stuck to what he knew. Obviously in the search for a bit more swing Patto's action has become a bit mixed, but I'm confused why you would try and convert a front on action to a side on action when history says he was going all right the way he was.

Patto is still young, and very, very raw, but he needs strong guidance, not sure the advice he is getting is correct. Just my opinion, but I have a bit of background behind my thoughts and observations.

In the past, FC form might have been the best indicator of whether a player should make the Test side. But these days, with such erratic fixturing, and tournaments like the IPL which give essentially domestic players exposure to international-quality opponents, you need to use more judgement.

Maxwell's last FC match (other than the tour match) was a single Division 2 fixture for Hampshire vs Worcs. He made 24 in the first innings as Hampshire was routed by, ironically, Ajmal. He followed it up with 85 in the second innings. My guess is that any FC cricket prior to that was back during the Australian summer. In the meantime, he's played for Kings XI in the Champions League and played three one-dayers for Australia.

Is he in good form at the moment?

Who could really say? I certainly don't have much confidence that he has the ability to really stick around and occupy the crease. Even his best innings rarely last much longer than a session. But then, I can't say I have much confidence in Doolan either and he's supposed to be a long-form specialist. If the selectors want to give Maxwell a shot, I suppose this wouldn't be the worst time.

Can't stand Doolan or O'Keefe in this side.

What does Hughes have to do to be recalled? I've currently got Hughes, Khawaja and North ahead of Doolan - have I forgotten anybody?

I'd put in Beer for O'Keefe, man is seriously underrated talent.

Pretty good on North to get selected out of retirement.

South Africa did the unthinkable a couple of years ago and took 4 quicks to India and beat them 2-1 - so it can be done.

Take the risk and line up Johnson, Starc, and maybe debut Paris and someone else. How's Pattinson and Harris coming along?

Lyon also had at least two catches dropped, so had they been taken, that puts him either on par or ahead of O'Keefe. Lyon is ridiculously underrated.

Show ability against spin would be a start. Replace a dud against spin (Doolan) with another ordinary player against spin (Hughes) doesn't solve the problem.

Beer doesn't even play for WA :v Also North retired.

Have to stick by our number one spinner in Lyon, i'd be tempted to play Maxwell over O'Keefe but other than that no change. Biased opinion but would love the wicket to wicket bowling of Chadd Sayers over there as I can't see Starc or Faulkner being damaging, would prefer Hilfenhaus.

They could just stick with the team they picked for the first test. What's the chance of the wicket being much different? And they chose this 11 thinking that it was the best for the surface.
