Man Utd's strategy for loads of the middle to latter Ferguson years was to splash the money on big stars and use the academy to bring squad players through
People were probably telling us 12 months ago (myself included) that Flanagan wasn't good enough, but I'd rather try our kids coming from the youth setup to see whether they're good enough than buying 20 million of potential then see if they're good enough.
Not always that people didn't make it here because they ain't good enough, otherwise Pauletta would've made it here. Pogba would've made it at the Mancs. Incompetence is possible
At the end of the day top class players will make average players look better as well
