Man Utd's strategy for loads of the middle to latter Ferguson years was to splash the money on big stars and use the academy to bring squad players through

People were probably telling us 12 months ago (myself included) that Flanagan wasn't good enough, but I'd rather try our kids coming from the youth setup to see whether they're good enough than buying 20 million of potential then see if they're good enough.

Not always that people didn't make it here because they ain't good enough, otherwise Pauletta would've made it here. Pogba would've made it at the Mancs. Incompetence is possible

At the end of the day top class players will make average players look better as well

good points & well clarified.. do you think they should be given more of an opportunity in the domestic cup games? exposed a little more. i'm stoked ilori, wisdom & ibe will be playing senior football, but i can't help but think we could actually use them ourselves. obviously texeira is an exception, and will hopefully benefit largely at brighton under sami. do you think there's ever a chance the likes of samed yesil will make it, obviously he's had his setbacks.
Im always up for giving the kids a go, you never know if they will make it in the big leagues without at least trying them in some senior football. But then circumstances arise, like now we are in the QF's and with the league season not going well the League Cup could be a ticket into Europe so now the kids wont get a go.

I was happy to see Ilori and Wisdom go on loan. They both wouldnt be getting many games anyways with the logjam at CB and RB. Ibe I was happy to keep in and around the squad. He wouldnt be bringing any less than what Markovic has. Tex im happy to loan out, he is older than you expect though. I think he is 22 maybe. Needs to come back and either push into the first team or get sold. He has plenty of talent.

Ill never understand what is going on with Suso though, super talent who BR just doesnt seem to rate. As for Yesil, ive never rated him, even before the injuries and even less so now. He wont make it.

On Suso. BR is plain wrong, and in time will be shown to be wrong.

I agree. I wish we would play him.

He's injured. The club are trying to get him to sign a new contract so not sure what more you want Rodgers to do really.

When he came back from his moderately successful loan he was still low down in the pecking order considering we'd just finished second and spent a load of money on new players. I'm sure if he was fit now he'd be getting a fair crack of the whip.

how much longer is suso out for? tex is 21, luis alberto is 22. can't ever see luis being something for us. i was kind of keen on seeing what he could offer as a box to box, he's hendo height. i'm hoping he adds that string to his bow, otherwise i can't ever see him getting in the AM role.

Until after xmas I think. Not sure though.

Alberto showed some nice things in the small samples we got of him last season. Not sure he will ever make it at Liverpool though. It's always a bad sign when you get bought and then loaned out. Unless you are like 18. It's not good news. At 22 to be getting loaned out instead of played is bad news. Same goes for Aspas obviously. Ilori im not sure on though. Needs time.

That is a very good point and might be the reason alberto isn't around. In theory he could be a very good box to box player.

On Illori, he has scored for Bordeaux (although i don't think he knew much about it), and apparently there is a clause in the loan deal that he has to play 30 times if fit. I take that as a sign he is still very much in our plans. and those plans may come to fruition earlier than expected...

well luis alberto made his return over the weekend i think, played ten minutes.

He wears gloves with out a long sleeve though, i still forgive him!!

Talks of us bidding 30mil for Isco and 10mil for Begovic.

Also talks of Cabaye, Carvalho and Patrick Roberts.

Plus Odegaard said Liverpool is his boyhood dream team.

sources?

I've never really seen the point of spending that much on Isco when we have a few players of similar ilk (Sterling / Cou / Lallana).
Yes please to Carvalho & Begovic.
No thanks for Cabaye.
Don't even know who Patrick Roberts is.

He's another kid lol. Agree on Isco - just give games to 25m Lallana.

Does any one genuinely think we can make top 4? I think we've been extremely lucky with other clubs around us performing just as bad as us so if we can find some form (hopes pinned on Sturridge) I think we can be in with a big chance. On the down side if the other teams around us find form we could be out of contention come xmas.

Liverpool of last year would have gone for jugular after Emres goal but it does look like we have zero confidence in each other. It's good to see a few pundits sticking up for Balo' aswel, hopefully he can score a few because if he can I think his personality can lift the team morale.
