Nice, easy to read report coulda :thumbsu:

Not to melt down or anything but if that's true regarding Sylvia we can't expect him to contribute next season, an interrupted pre-season is one thing but an injury that won't allow him to hit full fitness until halfway through the year would mean a write-off.

Just on Luke, can't say I've ever had that much faith in our medical staff but how do you misdiagnose a calf injury

The missed diagnoses was by the local specialist not our fitness people . Elvis's injury was very rare and not easy to pick up on which is why the club went searching for a second opinion thank god because it would have been the end of his career if it wasn't resolved ,so hats off to Freo for taking the right cause of action .

I spoke to a couple of the assistants about Sylvia and he has re injured the same ankle that was operated on hence the lack of pace and extra weight gained .
At this stage he is not expected to be up to full fitness until round 10 of this season . The assistants said it was a devastating blow to him since he has had high expectations of being available to play from round 1 .

I think this club article has since been updated with info about Sylvia. 'Not far away' is the club line per Barlow while unofficially he's out until Round 10 in June - that's 5 months away. A bit strange this one....

Colin Sylvia was also absent, despite running freely before Christmas. The 28-year-old had ankle surgery during the off-season to correct soft tissue issues in his calf that he suffered late last season.

"Co's had a couple of setbacks with his rehab over the off-season and then into the pre-season period," Barlow said.

"He's one who's not too far away. The ankle itself has been quite good. I think it's just the rest of the body adapting to the surgery. He's going as well as everyone else in rehab and hopefully he'll step back into the main group quite quickly."

I cannot see a reason why the club would not make a statement about a player with a significant profile being unavailable until round 10. It would take the pressure and speculation right out of it, which would be a good thing for everyone. In the end it just sounds like he is having some problems in his rehab, which is unfortunate but not uncommon.

I agree, a five month injury is not consistent with Barlow's comments. Are you sure you heard it correctly Coulda?

Might start a Beams type "injury setback" rumour? They want to keep their opposition guessing? They honestly don't have a clue and as soon as you say round 10 and end up not being available until round 13 the media and fans have their pitchforks out screaming incompetence?

There's a few I can think of off the bat.

Are you suggesting he has a drug ban being served in these 20 weeks? That was the Beams rumour.

I'm suggesting that if the club came out with a set time limit like "round 10" on a player who has accusations of laziness, party boy behavior, gaining weight in the off season, whatever else circulating already, it could lead to those kinds of rumours starting.

Not suggesting that is happening or has happened already. Proffering a set of suggestions as to why the club might not come out with a set time frame for his set back.

Cannot agree. Given we are talking about 5 months away any prognosis is unlikely to be specific as in "round 10" anyway. Mid-season I could buy, but "round 10" doesn't fit for me. Media and fans would be reasonably ho-hum if this was the case with Sylvia, and certainly compared to unsubstantiated rumours that he is 7kg over-weight.

Opposition guessing about Sylvia? I once hoped that would be the case, but I am sure no oppositions are sending out the spies to get the hot news on Sylvia's fitness and availability. They may even be hoping he is playing.

The most likely thing is that this thread is suffering from pre-season speculation.

I'm sorry I shouldn't have been so bumheaded when I asked the extremely leading and assuming question, it frustrates me when words get put in my mouth, I shouldn't have done it.

coulda: "where is sylvia? is he injured?"
source: "be here around 10am" *truck drives by and drowns the words*
coulda: "right, round 10" *writes it down*

Absolutely no issue on my side all good. I rush my posts in between pretending to work so I'm sure they often aren't as clear as they should be.

There are no rumours that Sylvia put on 7kg. That was merely comprehension failure.

Really disappointed at the reports that Sylvia's put on 70kg. The rest of the training reports have been great though! Sound like we have quite the promising list as long as it's under 40degrees when we're playing.

I attempted to photoshop a fat Sylvia but I'm concerned if I post it, it might get confused for real

I've got one of him with an extra 65kg.
