I'm not sure how much time i'll have to have another crack, but if there is more specific feedback about where I fell down compared to what they are after, i'd love to hear it, if you'd like to reply to my PM.

Thanks Teearrwai.
As Scorch states it would be good to get some idea or feedback in direction.
Do the Flames want a design that would last 5 years or be out of date design wise in 2 years. Hence the idea of utisiling flame in the design like Brisbane Heat.
A Minimalistic design if done correctly would last years and become a classic, while imagery/sublimation can date and then the process has to start again. Also in terms of budget, a more complex design adds to the costs, and checking over the flames website, there are a lot of different ages as well as female teams.
I'm asking this as after checking out the Nike, Addidas and UA team wear catalogues as inspiration, you have the classic look and then some of the 'modern' styles that would be replaced in a year or two.
Thanks for any feedback or input your commitee could provide to help designers in a direction, constraint is better then freedom in design.

Hi Guys,

Firstly let me just clarify, we weren't having a 'dig' at Scorch, it was just the opinion of some of the other board members. Feedback wise mate:

Logo - Good but when compared to our current logo, most of the panel would rather stick with ours as they felt it was too similar to go away from. Definitely liked the ideas though in keeping with the past to a certain extent but then a couple of other comments were a completely 'new' logo wouldn't be a bad thing either

Warm Up Tops - Aside from the pre-mentioned issues with your Logo, these were actually very well recieved. They were Modern yet not too flashy and would definitely appeal to our elite junior players who would have to wear them week in and week out. Black as the base colour was a winner given it is our clubs 'Main Colour'

Uniforms - Were seen as good but possibly a little too plain. Some had problems making out the letters with the wordmark gradient / colour scheme and then others just had issues, again, with the Logo and its 'prominence'.

Polo's - Probably the least liked out of the whole package but in saying that they weren't regarded as 'Horrible' either. A vast majority of our members, which includes our Board Members, prefer a predominantly all black design with hints of Flames / Club Colours, if that makes sense - as there are a couple other clubs here in WA with Red & Orange in their design and we prefer to own the whole 'Black' Image as it is a powerful colour when done right.

Hope this helps mate and yeah like I said don't take it to heart - they were good designs, just those issues as pointed out but we would love to see some more efforts from yourself as well as everyone else on here!!

Just to give you guys an idea of where our thinking is, this is a design from one of our rather talented juniors (15 years old but a rather gifted Graphic Design student at our Local High School) and the design he has submitted for the WABL Uniforms / SBL Home Uniforms. It has to be said that when put to the judging panel and myself, this is definitely a leading contender at the moment if that helps your designs at all!! :-)

I hope this helps everyone with our thinking / what we are after!! And I am more than happy to discuss further should the need arise.

Based on the feedback, I'm happy to post what I've done. As I said I'm unsure if I'll have time to have another go.

Stiff, I really think this is some very neat work.

What people must remember about these 'outside' competitions is that what we may consider the best design is not necessarily going to win. It's about what pleases the client the most

it must be the the lack of cuffs on your template.

I guess as some changes are going to be made (after showing these to teearrwai) I should put up my initial designs (complete set with polo, tracksuit and warmup jersey will be created once full feedback from the club is received)

What font is that craegus? Or is it a self made one?

Not self made, if I remember correctly it is the old Edmonton Oilers font for the text. I cant remember right now what the number font is.

El_Scorcho, Do you mind sharing the basketball template that you used?
I'll see if I can find it when I'm on the computer later. I changed the layout a bit but it's a great template.

It was surprisingly hard to find a good PSD basketball template. I thought the sportslogos forums would be knee deep in them, but they were quite hard to find. If someone needed an AFL template they could come here and find heaps of them for any program.

Put in some hours on this to finish up the uniforms, will look at the polos, warm up etc,. once I get some more free time.
Grey used to to show the cut, full black would be too high in contrast, but if required can tweak.
Font is GLADES Bold from Conrad on sportslogo.net
Template Frankensteined from a Nike 2014 pdf.
Logo just a quick rehash of the font, nothing spez, just trying to update the look. Old logo rep'd on back as well as shorts....had to build up from scratch, so not exact replicate.

Hi,

Just wondering if this competition is closed yet?

Cheers

Nah it's still open, if you have an idea then go for it; I know of at least one other poster who is currently designing something.

Updated previous post.
Enlarged files to 1024 width, darkened the original main colour so that the tracksuit could be two tone.
Warmup/Polo/Tracksuit templates from UA with edits.
Going for more minimal, which might be not inline with the committee and also not using red
And using a dark grey with the black instead, as I think the grey from the two tops would work with black or white shorts.

seems to be some issues with my exporter with those lines in the shorts and pants
