go have a squizz at the coaches votes - they rated him as 2nd best on ground - do you?
...
no we are offended at the coaches and commentators calling him in the bog's when guys like shep yeo - even masten won us that game - he played a good part - but he always gets the star billing
But the new and latest and shiniest excuse is he gets the contested ball more!tell me what about priddis is better than ginner??
his hairdo??
lets go thru all the attributes of a footballer and compare them
I dare u
that you can watch that video of priddis and still claim he is irreplaceable is ridiculous. ANY AFL player could have performed equally as good at that "role" and the involvements your saw in the video. To say no one else in our team could physically equal those efforts is also baloney.
Half the time "mr extractor" is splatted on the ground barely getting the ball out. Fumbling around missing taps.. almost throwing out handballs in close. We're lucky the umps rarely pay incorrect disposal. He is second in on tackles and hangs off the packs (when he's supposed to be going in there and getting it)
My fav moment (not) bout 2:30 in is where YEO extracts it to shuey who is on the burst, and priddis gets in the way.. priddis ends up with the ball.. floats around sideways like a goose cause he has no right foot .. then snap kicks chaos ball in hope it 10m to the opposition inside fifty.
If you watch the other video you'll also see its Shuey and other players who also emerge from at the bottom of a pack. Mr extractor is far from the only one who does and can do it. He just gets the most opportunity in that position and has done so for 3 years. You'll see shuey and lecras take ruck taps and burst away from the stoppage. You'll see Duggin Yeo Masten Sheed and Wellingham all equally (and better IMO) able to get in hard and extract the footy. Jesus Christ saint mary of matera its not that difficult to pick up the ball off the ground.
The best effort priddis had in the video is the intercept he does and then passes to Sinclair on the lead inside 50. Sinclair duffs the mark and the kick is a little floppy high floater (as per usual). But its a positive effort. The "game winning" goal shuey kicks.. the ball ricocets out to priddis at the back off a port players shin.. its hardly a hard ball get. Granted he collects it and gets it onto shuey .. just like any AFL player should be able to do.
I didn't want to have to annotate the videos but I may have to
Just a little fuel for the fire: http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2015-05-11/sealer-shuey-cant-take-credit
Oh whoops, forgot this is the "coaches, umpires, general public and especially teammates know nothing about how terrible Priddis is" thread.
I mean, I've been a critic of him at times and I still don't think he'll take us to a premiership but that's also partly because he'll have retired by the time our window is truly open (unless we have at least another 4-5 wins like last weekend against top 8 sides this year). Last weekend he got 31 possessions, if one of those resulted in a turnover that 'nearly' cost us the game, I'd say he made up for that with a disposal that did seal the game for us. In other words - he's had bad games, maybe more bad than good in recent years, but last week wasn't one of them.

You saw that last passage of play?
It was tossed in, all Port mids run forward the ball goes out the back Priddis and Shuey by themselves...Priddis picks it up and handballs to Shuey who slots it. Its being over played. Port had nothing to lose and played Russian roulette...it backfired and 2 of our players were left on their own to execute basic skills.
If anyone should get credit for that it should be niknat for getting the tap out
. I just feel like Priddis gets held to a different standard by some just because, well, you tell me.
Yes, but regardless Priddis still didn't monumentally *** it up like some on here seem to imply he regularly does. Again, I get the criticisms, but it's honestly overblown.
I mean, look at how much Masten love there was after the Port game, Masten also made some errors though. I just feel like Priddis gets held to a different standard by some just because, well, you tell me.
To put it differently - if the question was "how much longer can Priddis be played", I'd answer with "If played in the role he's been played in for the last two rounds, for the rest of 2015 and 2016". He's playing differently the last couple of games and sharing responsibilities a bit more, so I don't think he's deadlocking the development of our other midfielders the way he arguably was last year.
To be honest Cox needed to retire, towards the end the way he flailed his arms around in marking contests and played for frees in ruck contests was ridiculous, and not helpful in winning us the game. I think it also affected the way he was viewed around the league, which is a shame because he was one of the best ruckmen of all time.Think back to the pressure on Coxy to retire before his time... I couldn't believe what was happening... All the while with priddis in there butchering his ruck work.. The best ruckman ever!! He was even dropped! I hear ultimately he retired all because Lycett was putting the hard word on WCE. And WCE were so worried "about the future". Meanwhile they persisted with the PLOD butcher priddis as our number one rover!!! what about the midfield future?!
This was tragic in my view.. Love to see how many priddites were out for Coxy's head too! Where's Lycett now... back to 3rd in line? Its no wonder I'm a raving lunatic!!

Vickery it was, thug act I agree.yeah I saw him doing that a few times... And you're prob right.. The opposition ruckman were continually scragging the fork out of him. Remember that punch from whothisname at Richmond. I remember watching and at most every ruck contest it was line ball free kick.. the other ruck would scrag as a tactic (because he was so good) and the umps wouldn't pay many. He had another year in him I reackon..
I knew what I meant but I tend to post after a few glasses of red so it may have lost something in translation. The point I was trying to make is that Priddis still has serious deficiencies in his disposal, pace and marking. I don't think there is any question that he does have skills in getting the ball in congested situations and also he has a good ability to read the play. The criticism here was never that he didn't get the ball, but that he coughed it up when he did. He was also a liability in a man on man situation as his opponent ran off him and created a loose man, run on attack with absolutely no chase or pressure from Priddis. This meant other players had to take up the slack and chase. Given that situation it was hard to understand why he was rated so highly by many and the numerous blunders he made were simply overlooked despite the fact they more often than not resulted in scores for the opposition and he had zero hurt factor himself as an attacking player. Not quite sure what you're saying there (I've read that first bit 4 times and can't figure out what it means).
Continuing on though, another argument of the negative case is that Priddis needs to be dropped because he can only play the following role, and we can't improve as a team with him in the side, nor compete with the best teams with him in the side.
If he has indeed been taken out of the following role and is contributing to a successful side, that could seriously change the tone of this thread.

It seems now (at last) he is being given a slightly modified role where he is no longer the sole go to man and doesn't seem to have the same licence to jog around the ground without responsibility. It would appear that this now allows him to use his strengths better by looking for more handballs to skilled players rather than trying to do things he is not particularly suited to. As previously stated this limits the damage he can do as well.
You finally go something right.I really wish I knew too why priddis gets such a free pass from "mainstream" criticism?? Is it because he's just "always been there". He could hide when there was cousins, judd and kerr around... went under the radar. Maybe supporters just look at the stats at the end of the game.. see he has 25 (mostly butchered ineffective disposals) and then move on.. Also after our period of troublesome stars (cuz, chick etc) perhaps WCE use him as the clean cut poster boy for the new "culture" push at the club. Maybe they feel "they owe" priddis for being there thru it all as a model clubman + citizen? He's prob a great guy/person too. Not to mention he's also the eagles man at channel 7.
AND in my opinion is all the scribes/coaches and co, when they do their votes.. they get the stat sheets and automatically go.. "oh.. another 30 for the mop... yepp BOG votes without even watching the game.
Whereas, its been my view watching the games over the last 2-3 years his shortcomings at rover directly contribute to our shit results. Ironically the more the stats he gets ("better he does") the worse it is for our team!!!
Masten, the Ginner , Josh Hill , Nik Nat... yepp they're all great examples of the mad hypocrisy from priddiots who call for their heads/trade every week for things priddis has always done/does and will never improve on. EVEN Shuey was in the gun!!! You put the microscope on their statements and there is silence or "what would u know you're not a coach" as a comeback.. Each of these players have "get the ball skills". FFS every AFL player does (besides maybe sandilands! haha) AND they have 2-3 other valuable attributes. Priddis ...... .. . .. . .. . . .. . ? ? ?

I would have to agreeIts no wonder I'm a raving lunatic!!
Plus we have about ten in the coaching staff .
Reading Inside footy the other week and I normally take little notice but Matt Priddis this season was leading in the number of handballs in the league , most clearances and second in the tackles . Pretty good numbers even after last season .
I was a little surprised but shows his good endurance and reading of the play to get to so many contests .
You didn't notice the amount of stoppages we DELIBERATELY planned for so he COULD get to the contests otherwise he is lost with fast free flowing football?
It isn't hard when there is mostly stoppages between the 50 meter arcs and he jogs to each one of them as he can't "run" and doesn't need to as they are so close to each other.
So we held play up and forced stoppages rather than retaining possession of the ball? Just to win a stoppage and then ... force another stoppage?
Umm, no.
I thought we generated stoppages to get Naita in the game?
I think our stoppage game was evident on the weekend against port for 2 reasons. One if we played an open game style port would have cut us apart. So we held play up and forced stoppages rather than retaining possession of the ball? Just to win a stoppage and then ... force another stoppage?
Umm, no.
