We need goal kickers Salim not more makeshift, pretend forwards. I thought Blakely was well held by Micheal Sinclair but to his credit he kept fighting to win hard fought possessions. But he is not ready to take a forward role for Freo imo. He is not a great kick either and Crozier is.

Duffy is not consistent .He just doesn't work hard enough when he hasn't got the ball.Tackles , shepherds and the hard ball get are not his thing.
I can't agree about Connor being well held .I thought he was one of our best working extremely hard around the ground .

Nothing against giving the young guns a game but Connor was not involved in the centre bounce downs but stationed in the half forward line playing the role Barlow is now playing and did a good job .I would bring Blakeley in for Crosier. Blakeley has been a lot more consistent than Duffy and deserves a shot hopefully this coming game.

Played two games last year, Ross has mentioned him several times recently.

He played 2 games, both as the sub. One of them he was very good in. The other he played about half of 1 quarter. Then he was dropped from the side (for Suban, who missed 1 week, was the emergency and didn't play) and hasn't been given another shot since.

Ross Lyon is a great coach but it seems to be very tough to get a game in a side he coaches. He seems willing to keep playing the incumbents no matter what.

Despite all the good games produced by players like Blakely, Grey and Weller this year, the only people Lyon has a given a shot to this year are the previous incumbents DeBoer and Mzungu.

I don't think Blakeley for Crozier is like for like. If anything we would lose speed in the swap. I think Blakeley is next in line after the clearance machines, if there is an injury. Barlow maybe?

I think Crozier is probably I'm trouble though. We could go taller in the forward line again with Clarke and Tabs coming in(Hannath going out too), or give Duffy a try.

Blakeley suffers from a misconception about a lack of pace.Training watchers and Peel watchers will tell you it aint so.He was used as a loose half forward wing on Sat the same position that Cros fills.

Worked hard but wasn't very effective. Nice and quick though and I think he will be great for us in the midfield when he is ready. Duffy has been learning to play high half forward as well and tends to have more impact when he stay closer to goal. Unlike Mayne I prefer a guy who kicks 5 goals than one who lays five tackles. We have a couple of defensive forwards, a nice multiple goal kicker with lots of xxxxx factor is required now.

AFL level is harder than WAFL level. Players who struggle at AFL level perform very well when they go back to the lower level. So to get Ballantyne or Mayne replaced in the firsts, Duffy, or any other forward, would need to perform very well week in week out. One or two good performances doesn't cut it.

Interesting debate. The delivery has been pretty poor to the forwards since the opposition has been creating congestion. If the talls are bringing it down, we need the smalls to be crumbing it and that ain't happening too well right now.

I call total Bollocks. Its not a crime to be a talented outside player or a crumbing goal kicking forward. I thought Ugle did it brilliantly on Saturday, when he anticpated that Griff would snap towards the goal square and he swooped in and kicked a goal. It is skillful not something to be ashamed of.
Our small forwards are a part of the problem because Balla is not crumbing well this season and Walters is playing up the ground more. One small seagull goal kicker can only help our very tall forward line.
Do you remember that sublime handpass Duffy gave off in his first game after he kicked two of his own goals?

But Duffy doesn't chase or tackle.Whats the point of the ball coming to ground and the defence running it out because of a lack of forward pressure.
Ballas chased ,tackled was involved in a goal assist where he shovelled the ball out from the bottom of a pack for one of Sonny's goals and kicked a valuable goal himself.What more can a small forward do.Also takes pressure of Sonny.If Duffy can bring that type of pressure as a small forward great,but so far he hasn't shown it at Peel.

I've already said this, they go together: for Duffy to get in the firsts, he needs to play consistently well and force his way past the incumbent forwards. If Duffy was kicking bags every week in the twos, he already would have forced his way into the team. Walters did exactly that from playing with Swan Districts.
Mayne is better than he was last year.
Ballantyne provides more than just goals;
Taberner has been very important to our structures and isn't as bad a mark as claimed by some on this board. And yes he has been dropped, as has de Boer, so that makes your snide little comment superfluous doesn't it?

Ballaz, walters and duffy all forward makes for a hell of a lot of speed up front (Duffy has a real burst when he wants it) ...it might be an interesting experiment to put them all together and thereby test an opposing team's defensive speed, with Mayne playing the defensive forward role and Tabs/Pav playing as talls.

Its a crime when you don't put in the hard yards.Duffy is not in the side for a reason at the minute.He is not consistant.He kicked 5 goals against the bottom WAFL side.What do you think Ballas would have done in that game.

Ballantyne was recruited on the back of a season where he won a sandover and kicked 70 goals. Duffy and Crozier have a fair way to go before they replace him. He's a match winner, he'll come good soon enough, its only a matter of time. I'm always a little surprised he doesn't get more frees. He often gets taken over the shoulder and pushed in the back but its always play on.

Max played as high forward and demonstrated some strong release run with instances where he supported the contest

Max played forward for the game where he was strong to release from stoppages. He worked hard in the defensive 50 in the fourth quarter then released hard to be involved in a goal. He showed good body on the line in the first quarter when he went back with the flight and then followed up with a tackle.

Max played high forward, where he worked hard to find space through good running patterns particularly in the first quarter. Max didn't make the most of his three scoring opportunities finishing with 0.3.

Max played high forward and moved onto the wing early in second half. He had a good run and carry passage (four bounces) resulting in a Peel Thunder goal. While he didn’t have as big an impact as per last week, he ran hard throughout the day.

Max played forward and kicked three goals and had 20 possessions while taking nine marks. His ball use was a positive and he was strong at getting the ball inside at attacking mid and forward 50.

Micheal Wood was delisted becauser he was not quick enough or have sufficient awareness to play up the ground.

Apart from that one game, he failed to make an impact at WAFL level. Goal sense and X factor isn't enough to have a career, you need hard work, a body that can put on muscle etc etc

But my point was: you need to show your wares consistently to make it.

Come on ,those reviews are club spin,how many are ever derogatory.
It actually proves the point he is inconsistent. One goal against a tough East Perth and nil against a lowly Claremont.
Look I hope if Duffy gets a go he kills the pig and tears the game apart.I think we a both on the same page.We both want a more efficient forward half but are looking at different solutions.

Saying Mayne is doing better than last year is hardly an endorsement. He's kicked 0 goals and laid 8 tackles in three games.

His form can't get much worse. You don't think Duffy can match 0 goals and 8 tackles in three full games of AFL.
