I know sprinters train continually to get faster but I wonder if footballers can train for it?
Because by hell we need more pace out of our players.Adam Goodes running away from Ollie was a shame job but it happened all night across the ground. You can't blame too much muscle mass because we haven't got that either.
Much was always said of Kane Cornes running ability but he was as slow as a wet week over a 50 metre sprint.Maybe the whole club is trying to replicate marathon runners when they should be concentrating on sprinting?

Yes you can, but only up to a certain level.

NT much? Hehe. :thumbsu:

We have missed Polec so much. His pace and field kicking.

White's absence is also hurting.

I'd get Amon back in the side to help a bit in the pace department.

I've never seen Ollie outrun like that. Given how poor most of his night was, I can't figure out whether that bit of play was because he is just slow, or because he couldn't give a stuff.

We really are one paced at the moment and PJ Power has identified the three players we miss most. It's a bit sad that a young kid would be so important to adding a bit of pace to the side. Amon would have to replace Moore next week. Neade if he stay involved in a game for more than 20 minutes would be worth bringing back too.

Sorry Dalphonso you can make a bloke a bit quicker with better technique but you'll never turn Andrew Moore into Usain Bolt.

With AhChee actually fulfilling the task of a big bodied inside mid who plays like a battering ram, Moore is redundant, especially as any physicality he brings to the table is carried out in ultra slow motion.

Amon to play the White wing.

Neade is required to bring some sort of defensive hassle to the forward line.

Broadbent who should be running out there, can find real form in the Magpies.

Agility can be improved with the right training methods, ie lots of short, sharp stuff can improve the reflexes for some players, but obviously not all.
For actual leg speed though, you are either born with lots of fast twitch fibres, or you aren't.

Sure someone studying exercise science can help us out but I think its something like:
+ muscle = - speed
+ speed = -muscle

At the ground it felt we had them covered for speed and we're actually using it to our advantage so I find this a strange thread.

Our body size and their ability to resist tackles and keep the ball moving when we couldn't was more glaring.

Of course all this is redundant when you have skills that are as amateur as ours.

Don't think pace is a huge problem for us anyway. Ollie is nowhere close to the quickest player in the team and even at his age Adam Goodes is going to make a lot of guys look slow with 50 metres of empty grass in front of him.
Length of stride also plays a part in speed over the ground. The taller you are the longer your stride is likely to be;

Usain Bolt - 196cm
Adam Goodes - 194cm
Andrew Moore - 189cm
Ollie Wines - 187 cm

Once a plodder always a plodder. In fifty years of playing and watching footy I have never seen a draught horse suddenly turned into a racehorse. Track athletes have natural ability and training to win is a matter of fine tuning.

Pace is a critical factor and someone in the side has to have it. Without Polec, White and Neade we simply do not have enough of it.

Amon and DBJ were also recruited for pace. With Polec and White out Amon should be playing every game. Do this and in 2016 we can have 3 line breakers, instead of the 0 or 1 we've had most of this year.

White and Polecs fast line breaking are a crucial part of our game we haven't had a plan B for. We get three speedsters in next year and we won't look as slow as molasses and ripe for the turnovers we've had this year.

I didn't look Goode but Ollie could have been stuffed and the Goody man running towards goal is a hard man to stop

So true - Polec's influence last year was paramount. Nobody breaks through line quite like him.

Goodes is a fast player, always he been. Unfair to criticise Ollie too much over it
You need the Krakman to chase him down and do him for holding the ball, as he has done a few times previously.
