Because, that's not the way it's played. He officially cannot accept an offer from another club till the trade window opens. Saying he wants to leave provides the evidence, especially if he said which team he wanted to go to, of a deal.

It's a crap ending to a career at club, but I'd rather have it with this way than what happens in the NRL
I was talking about him staying not accepting an offer.

That's the way of it. His hands are tied because these are his options

1. He's staying at Adelaide
2. He's undecided
3. He's leaving

Only with option 1 can he actually announce his deicision now. For 2 and 3 he cannot say anything. He's not dragging it out, but at this point in time he hasn't decided to stay at Adelaide and so he by definition has to keep dragging it out.

Yes I know, but point is, he doesn't want to give the game away in any case, as it may impact the points I raised.

Stringing out the discussion, being non-committal, isn't great for you as a fan, though he's playing a tough game.

Either he truthfully hasn't made up his mind, or has and it's not the crows.

It makes me wonder why Journos make things up whilst knowing nothing.
I just assume that journos speak to someone and get a comment off the record... like the widespread disdain for Jay-z Clark on the Crows board, he wouldn't just make shit up... he would speak to people and would make comment based on that

It's interesting reading the two boards. He is staying but he isn't, Catch up with Connors was just a manager checking in on his players but it wasn't, Patrick had a slight emphasis on the third syllable in the forth sentence of a question he was asked this morning that proves he is staying/leaving
Can we all admit we have no idea as to what is going on and just wait to see how it plays out over the next few months?

I'm not sure why they bother to be honest. They know the rules, and they know Geelong aren't privy to give an honest answer.

Do they really expect Geelong to come out and say something along the lines of 'yep, he's still coming home, nothing has changed.'

Amongst all the conjecture I think there is something we can all agree on. He is playing bloody good football for the Crows and nobody can doubt his commitment this year.
The same can be said for that little bald bloke @ the Cats in 2010.

Well he did say on radio this morning that the decision was akin to choosing between two families.

Which might indicate he's either staying in Adelaide or moving to Moggs Creek and Geelong - rather than say moving to Hawthorn or Collingwood. It's similar to the Harry Taylor situation last year but the messages are a little different. Two months before he signed Harry was saying things like 'If we can get those things all sorted out, hopefully we are going to be at Geelong a fair bit longer".

Apart from Boak, I can't remember a player being so non-committal or confirming there was an alternative destination and then staying. Danger and his manager have both confirmed that Moggs is weighing on is mind. But Boak didn't already have a house here and a fiancée from the area also, as far as I know.

A few in the lock-out thread seem to be hanging on this rumour of Danger and Mardi deciding after the West Coast game that they'd stay in Adelaide.

A week after the death of somebody close when emotions are extremely high doesn't seem like the time you'd be making big life decisions to me. I would have thought next years playing future was right a the bottom of the priority list. As he stated in the media.

Hence our view, that there's been no positive discussion about entering negotiation.

Also, if you're willing to tell friends at a dinner party you're willing for the world to know because it will leak for sure. No need to be coy about it. Yet...

The party poppers and streamers have been cleaned up pretty quickly over there and are back to eating their own a bit. Some rational and reasoned posts, a little confidence and some window lickers.

Pretty much same as 2 weeks ago.

Fair point, but I wasn't suggesting the quote was made in reference to where he was going, just responding to the suggestion that he'd never said he loves his club. If he's describing them as family then I reckon that's akin to saying he loves them.

I just wonder where people come up with this crap? Attention? Stirring the pot because they can anonymously? People are weird ha

There's also a few saying that the deal is done and AFC are (inexplicably) holding off the announcement because... reasons? That bit's not really clear.

If PD has signed at Adelaide it'll be announced before the ink is dry. If he's decided to stay there's no reason to not at least say on radio that he's staying or wants to stay. Right now he either hasn't decided (most likely), or is going.

That's it, it is a bloody hard decision.

Imagine though, getting paid what you want, in the town you want to live, surrounded by your family and your future wife's family, playing the sport you love, for the team you supported.

That would be the dream.
