The post just before mine reminded me of it, but it's something I've been wanting to get off my chest for a while. I know people that say that don't actually want to see that person brutally murdered, but it just seems way too excessive. It's usually a phrase saved for celebrities and it reeks of jealousy.

this is the right place to unload

Sounds like a flog.

I could get the Andrew G/Andrew Günsberg thing and he's hardly the first person with a name that yobbos can't pronounce to change it in the media (Les Murray, anyone?) but the Osher thing is just pretentious waffle.

Andrew G, Andrew Günsberg - whatever. I'm not calling you Osher because you think it's cool.

Tracksuit pants with elastic cuffs at the ankles. Why is this a thing?
Really?

I think they look a lot better than the usual trackies.

The response to Osher's name change is what shits me. In fact, most people's dickhead responses to spirituality is what shits me.

Personally, I don't really buy Osher's story about how the bloke could foretell his whole life. Hey, it might be true, but it takes more than a second hand account to convince me.

But that doesn't make me think he's pretentious or a flog.

Nothing about that post made him seem like he thought he was better than everyone else. He changed it because it made him happier. He thought that it changed his life, and whether it was causation or correlation, who knows, but in his case he states it did.

So why the negativity?

There's more to life and more ways of living than the small mindedness of the people who think spirituality is "pretentious".

I find it more pretentious to call someone pretentious for personal changes that affects no one but themselves.

It was the same thing with Heritier Lumumba. Don't get me wrong, I think the bloke has other issues, but he wrongfully copped smack for changing his name.

Why? Because you've never heard of the name Heritier Lumumba? It's more exotic than "Harry O'Brien"?

People called him a flog, pretentious this and that. But did you know the great Mohammed Ali was once known as Cassius Clay Jr? I wonder how many would call him a flog or pretentious.

Everybody called Ali pretentious. That was his thing.

I don't know who Osher is so can't comment too much. Agree with your sentiment though.
I'm sure they would have, but how many would have called him pretentious now, with hindsight involved?

It's the same argument that people made in regards to Floyd Mayweather but... nah I still can't help but think he's an arrogant douche. :p

people who use being drunk as an excuse for unsociable behaviour.

an enjoyable afternoon was enjoyed by a group of friends. a bit of wine consumed by all bar myself. topic turned onto some very personal things, family issues of the North family. each of the experienced friends had a say. i asked for respect of my privacy, advising that its best not to comment on other households when you dont know what's going on in their home. fell on deaf ears. had enough and left the gathering.

texts and phone calls i ignored due to anger. texts read later all stated they were apologetic, and it was the alcohol talking not them.

weak as piss.

Why were they even commenting on your family in the first place?

people.

people who use non nonsensical arguments when comparing A and B (and sometimes C, M and T).

tony schebecci on SEN radio when debating greatness of melbourne as sporting city asked "how many places have the australian open, formula one GP and real madrid?"

let's take some time to analyse this.

Australian Open (grand slam of the asia-pacific) - melbourne has it. if it is located in another country then it wouldn't be the australian open.
F1 GP - the melbourne grand prix. if held elsewhere it wouldnt be the melbourne gp.
Real Madrid - only Madrid has this club.

reminds me of my younger days discussing and comparing players. my essendon colleagues constantly brought up hird to compare (other clubs players) to. "has ABC won a brownlow? how may crichton medals does XYZ have?"

due to the ineptitude of brain and function, such persons failed to understand that unless you play for essendon you cant win a crichton medal.

Besides, London has Wimbledon (more prestigious), it's a tick over an hour to Silverstone, and not only has it had Real Madrid - it's had Barcelona, Milan, Juventus etc as well as the EPL clubs! What a strange argument to put forth. I don't see how having Real Madrid here once would even help the sporting capital of the world thing..
