"you're going to want to compete for every minute in this game otherwise you're no good"
Our work rate has been deplorable at times this year.
And that's before we even discuss skills.
I get that this season has been absolute rubbish but I really can't understand the pessimism around here. Apart from our performances, I think the main lesson from the season is that the differences between most sides are marginal. Even Hawthorn and Fremantle, can have their colours lowered by teams considered significantly worse than them.
Obviously the club needs to learn lessons from this season. Some of the things learnt may be hard to accept or implement. But I don't think for one minute we are necessarily destined for mediocrity for seasons to come.
What he says in press conference would be vastly different to what he says behind closed doors. Its the first time that he has really showed some emotion, but I wanted him to rip into the players. Name names, out the down hill skiers, out the selfish lazy players.
Then this week I want him to drop all of the above. But unfortunately we have zip in the SANFL.
"you're going to want to compete for every minute in this game otherwise you're no good"
Our work rate has been deplorable at times this year.

- We were physically and mentally beaten up
- We caved in to pressure
- We are not doing the team things consistently - players are playing for themselves
- Work rate is not at AFL level
- Not prepared to go to battle every minute, every second - we have to compete every minute not just for 10 minutes. Turn up and play the right way
- Played like a team more hoping than wanting
- He is looking forward to the next 4 weeks to see who wants to play when there's nothing on the line - who is going to stand up when there's little light
- We are tough on our terms not when the opposition bring hard footy (didn't say front-runners but read between the lines)
- We don't want to stay in the contest long enough - want to play easy footy
- Players have to give their guts for the team, then he's satisfied (The Creed)
- He gives a handful of players a pass mark for the year. Not nearly good enough
- This was tough to swallow, one of the the first times he thought this group did not do the club proud
- He is very impressed with the Dogs
If they come out firing (as in, "now") they should be sackedThe boys will turn it around.
People have compared Saturday's effort to matches circa 2008-12. That performance was shit, no doubt. However, that performance was an outlier when compared to matches over the past three seasons.
I hope like hell they come out firing against the Giants, because the true character of a playing group shows when they can go out there with a bunch of effort and smash a team when the season's pretty much gone.
They'll get it done. And next year, with a renewed chance of success, they'll come out firing.
It's true that Primus identified and called out a lot of this type of stuff in his press conferences, especially after a few of the more insipid defeats. The difference with Primus is that he didn't know how to turn the ship around or at the very least couldn't hold on long enough to see it through. Hinkley has already shown he can turn a poor performing side into a contender once. He now needs to show us all over again. 2016 is a big year for the PAFC.
Reckon this year shows us about where we are at with our list. Top 6 are stars and the rest are average. Flag was there to be stolen in 2014 but we lacked composure when it counted. Can't see us bouncing back into real contention any time soon.
Ithink we all agree with you on this , except , the dropping needed to happen a fair while ago.Has Ken only now just cottoned to all this?? All these things have happened in all our losses including Sydney in Rd 2. Admittedly the players havent given up in most our losses but bugger me players have let the coach and us fans time and time again and the majority of them have been rewarded with more games.
If he doesnt give a couple blokes games who havent let him down because they havent played or played very little, then he isnt serious. Its just cheap talk.
I go back to something I have written about Ken and Blight dropping him in 1990. He went back to the B grade and was shifted from forward/wing to half back and was so pissed off he racked up 50 disposals. Blight asked Ken what did he learn from playing in the B's? He said that he never wanted to play there again. Blight said dropping Ken and the way he responded changed the way he coached. Its time for Ken to drop under performing players to the SANFL and find out what they will learn by going back to the B's. No more ****en excuses!
So if he rips into them behind closed doors it's not working, it's getting worse. Somethings not right. What he says in press conference would be vastly different to what he says behind closed doors.
I would be bitterly disappointed if he ripped into them publicly.
Done behind closed doors you reckon , that's worked well then . Somebody wrote that ranting and yelling doesn't work , I betchya threatening the sack, and meaning it does !Ken is smart, he knows from previous coaches that sitting at a presser and looking like you are falling only piles on more pressure, on yourself and the players, it will all be done behind closed doors, as he has done all year.
Geez some of our blokes are touching 30yoa and have years of experience , a father figure you say eh ? . Id say a wise man wouldn't have let the decline progress so far to begin with.I believe Ken has been a father figure which the boys needed initially after the tragic loss of JMac and the shambles the club was in when he arrived. He will always care about them, it's in his nature, but now these boys need to grow into men so tough love is required. Also as far as the coaches box is concerned, he either needs a tactical assistant or more likely he has been trying to teach the players to coach themselves during games and notice swings and act without prompting. So far the players have not achieved this. It is a steep learning curve and so far perhaps they have shown they are not ready. Will he persist? I have faith in him.and believe him to be a wise man though.
