Wait a minute..... When you said that we'll win the premiership were you talking from a Sydney perspective or Hawthorn perspective? :p

Nah swans man unlike u hawk lovers

Hawks peaked way too early again take away mitchell, hodge, burgoyne, lewis, lake, gibson, roughead , rioli and co and they suck

Fun fact, since 2013 Hawthorn haven't beaten us without Hodge so going by that logic......;)

What would that mean for the salary cap and by extension the latter years of the Buddy deal?

Thatll depend on how the AFLPA play their game in asking for bigger caps

As Millky95 said will depend on the AFLPA. Highly likely though the players will get a bigger cut and therefore a cap increase. Buddy's contract then looks less like 800k-1m a year but in todays terms will probably be the equivalent of a 600-700k player.

Sadly yes. I also worry about the 12 Thursday matches. Imagining we will get one of our few games down here on a Thursday night along with a Geelong game we can't access. Then I realised how pissed the AFL will be at us for daring to call them out for being a pack of lying, cheating campaigners and figure we will get the late Sunday and twilight Saturday games.

Would the AFL ever get to a stage where there's a lock-out like in American sports?

The real difference is the lack of private ownership. But you could argue a player strike is an inevitable outcome of the AFLPA becoming a force in the industry. Certainly hope it never happens

New TV deal could be announced as early as today, starts in 2017 and worth $2 billion, up from current $1.25 billion.

The AFLPA will ensure that the Salary Cap goes up accordingly which suddenly makes Buddy's deal for the last 6 years of his contract look cheap. Buddy's $1.1 mill/year will equate to the equivalent of $600k/year under the new cap.

Hell there will be some scrambling from player managers in negotiating new contracts. I wonder how many of those recent long term deals that have become commonplace are for a fixed amount like Buddy's and how many have been negotiated on a fixed % of the Salary Cap.

If the cap actaully does goes higher, then the buddy move will seriously be an act of absolute brilliance.

Yes and no. 600k in today's money is still a lot to be paying a player in his mid-30s who cannot really get on the park, and that's what we're looking at during the last years of his contract. We need results over the next 3-4 years.

We have been far from convincing this year. Even our best games were generally tight affairs. We've lost most of our games against the top 8. I just don't see us putting it all together in the next 2 months to win it.

However, if we have close to our best back in time, we're more than capable of putting on a month of solid footy. However going all the way is doubtful since we've lost to all 3 of the other top 4 hopefuls.

It will take a massive turn around and everything going right to achieve it

It's not an insignificant sum, but the likely increase in the cap should at least ensure that the deal won't blow up in our faces if he does retire early.
