Reid, Brown and Sidebottom types are prime candidates for ridiculous offers so you weigh up the pros and cons.
Neither Reid nor Brown would grab a lot of attention unless Reid destroys 2016. Both have extensive injury histories and Brown isn't a key back you build around, just a strong compliment to a guy like Reid (or Marsh for that matter).

But I get what you mean. Still, Sidebottom is our best outside accumulator and link up player, two areas in which we're already struggling. Until we find a release player from our back half as remotely as effective as Sidebottom, I wouldn't begin to entertain the thought.

Do you have Sidebottom ahead of Treloar Pendles Swan Adams?
Swan will see less midfield time, Adams is a completely different brand off footballer and Pendles/Treloar are ahead of him. That said, Sidebottom provides us with flexibility all around the ground. He can spend more time forward or back so it's not a matter of stacking our midfield and saying good bye to Sidey. There are a few other footballers that would make way first.

He did his thumb in round 1?

Yep, he did. My memory failed me. In any case I agree he had a 'meh' year. Stand by the rest of it.

We can't trade Sidey. As others have said he's a heart and soul player. Even if he was to be pushed out of the midfied he could be a very creative permanent HFF for 30 goals.

The trade options may be tempting but as I've said before; good clubs don't trade quality players who want to be there.

If he gets an offer he can't refuse next year then we will get band 1 compo.

Let's leave Pendles out of it because there's more chance of either of us captaining the club in 2016 than him leaving.

On the sentiment of potentially trading out players a year early there's types you consider it for and types you don't. Cloke, Swan and Pendles you don't because they come with their own level of importance, but Reid, Brown and Sidebottom types are prime candidates for ridiculous offers so you weigh up the pros and cons.

The supporter in me agrees with the general theme that it would be madness, but the analyst in me sees the merit of having the discussion.

I think it is going to happen a lot more so I think we should get used to it.

I would do Sidebottom for Essendons pick if it got us a forward to replace Clokey and partner Moore in the future.

Good discussion Scodog.

If we went cold on Kruezer, it still means we have a lot of cash saved. Treloar will obviously be fantastic but hoping for another big recruit as well.

Wouldn't mind seeing sidebottom play behind the ball in the role pendles was doing last few rds. Think he has a really nice kick on him and he generally makes great decisions mainly due to being able to kick on both sides. There is also the Bradshaw/Rischitelli dilemna where by even entertaining trades for him, he may think stuff em come end of 2016 and walk.

What is everyones thoughts on pies trying to get Darren Minchington as steak knives from a Freeman trade if he does go. Small forward, looks clever. Our smalls in Elliott & Fasolo don't exactly crumb, De Goey is a future inside mid and BenKen hasn't made that spot his own.

It's been mentioned before the Sidey's family are Bombers supporters and maybe there is a risk for next year.
Beams, McCarthy etc have made us all a bit nervous for next year.

would not trade Sydney for pick4, if treloar is worth 2 1st round picks so is Sydney, runs both ways, can play forward as a crummer
and of half back and mid field. the only other person in our team that can do that is pendles

I think Treloar is certainly ahead of Steele and Adams passed him this year. But he isn't a player I want to lose, that's for sure!

treloar last I looked is not playing for us yet, and Sydney is a totally different type of player to
treloar even though they mid field

Damien Barrett's trade report on Triple M:

* Stevie J - not convinced on Tigers due to their interest in Treloar (not sure of the link given Johnson is a FA unless it's a cap issue?)
* Treloar - expects to get to Pies, but Tigers haven't given up
* Yarren - to Richmond
* Bennell - Richmond doing due diligence
* Carlisle - race between Saints and Blues. Carlisle sees himself as exclusively a backman. North would have seen him as a swingman. Carlisle not interested so North out. Essendon would prefer someone other than Blues due to pre-season draft threat. Carlisle apparently wants a deal for
* Stanton - yet to resign for Essendon
* Seedsman - won't be at Pies
* Melksham - to Melbourne
* Bugg - watch this space, could be on the way out of GWS
* Schulz - could stay at Port as interest drying up
* Watts - out of Melbourne
* Kreuzer - Pies dropped interest. Blues want him. Barrett doesn't think that Kreuzer will stay at Blues however.

LOL at Richmond.

Treloar is ours give up.

And do tell how you think you'd land both Treloar and Yarran given that you've stated you'd give up two first rounders for Adam and Carlton will demand a first round pick for Yarran?

It doesn't make sense.

On Bennell if Aish doesn't wish to come to Collingwood should we at least explore the option?

He's obviously not as screwed up as young Garlett was.

Yeah scuttlebutt is they have been saying since he was drafted that he would be leaving at the end of his contract. So far he has been through two or three contract negotiations and hasn't even considered leaving because as much as his family didn't like Collingwood as Bombers supporters, Steele was very happy at the Pies. Provided he's still happy at the Pies I can't see him leaving because of who his family supports when he's had several opportunities to do so and hasn't.

swoop42 they are also going to have a dip at Bennell too apparently so another pretty good pick required for him.

Talk they might be willing to give up Lennon for Yarran but that would be a mistake I would think. Would not require a pick though.

They are out of the race for Treloar just trying to put pressure on us so we pay more. As long as Treloar holds firm with Pies preference and we don't dick around too much at the trade table we'll be fine. Carlton would be the main threat IMO. Can always walk there in PSD.
