It wasnt for lack of trying though? No one can fault Danger for trying his hardest this season; he didn't fall off, and if anything got better as the season went on. Its not like Ablett or Franklin single-handedly won their club a flag; its a team sport, so not sure what your point is.

What if Geelong trade them out first - is that possible? I.e. can Geelong trade their first round pick(s) before making the offer to Dangerfield, thereby removing Adelaide's incentive to match the deal?

I find it hard to believe Adelaide could command anything close to his "true worth" given he is out of contract. I wouldn't be surprised if we take our chances in the draft should Adelaide demand a king's ransom.
