If we were ever going to, doing it at a time when it could get us premiership-necessary players (eg Dixon) and not just picks, at his peak of market value so far, when he is in a role we can probably cover next year with other players...its a good time to do it

Baller move though, but premierships are made of such. Eagleton-esque.
Thinly veiled Oshea post. ;)

It's obvious that all these clubs are scared of us next year thanks to us getting an easier draw. "These guys dismantled Hawthorn TWICE! Quick, offer their players shitloads of money before they become the next Geelong/Hawthorn and win multiple flags!"

You can smell the fear.

Prevention is more effective than cure, but we're already inoperable

I thought that would be a good metaphor but now im sad. stupid portia.

I agree with what Ford said earlier. Drive up the price of our players and actually push our salary cap to bursting point in the hopes that Wines shakes loose next year. Wines is the one they're after.

Trick is to simply not take the bait from either players or clubs. Hartlett is not worth $750k+ to us. Wines and Wingard are. We know that, and we'll work from that basis.

Call their bluff. Let them sign Hartlett, watch the contract disappear.

So his brother stating Port fans have nothing to worry about in regard to Hartlett leaving means nothing to you, or the article stating he's close to signing a long term extension?
I'm pretty convinced he is going to say. I'm just saying the speculation will continue until it's official. Annoying but true.

Hartlett prepared to take less money at port to stay

Yep. The more widely this $750k stuff is known and believed, the better it looks for us when he extends his contract for significantly less. Employer of choice.

Prepared to take actual money.

I'll gove you a million dollars if you can jump over the Eiffel tower.

Wines and Wingard are contracted for 2016. For 2017, the following players will renegotiate their contracts:

Wines
Wingard
Hartlett (RFA) (probably $450-500k per year for 4 years)
Monfries (400k per year down to around 350k per year for two years)
Schulz (unless contract extension is activated - $400k)
Ah Chee (unless contract extension is activated)
O'Shea (unless traded out this year)
Young (unless traded out this year)

Plus the following contracts will be at the back end:

Ryder (you'd hope if our list management was any good we front ended the shit out of Paddy's contract this year)
Boak (contract finishes in 2018)
Gray (contract finishes in 2018)

We've got heaps of room to move, even with Dixon coming in. Plus we have the new tv deal which will invariably bump up the salary cap by at least 50% over the life of the deal.

That's why you have all these clubs scrambling for our players and offering seemingly obscene money - it won't be obscene after the new CBA has been negotiated, and they know it.

Pffft, Tilt was the place to be.

I suppose Damian Barrett in cahoots with player managers. They feed this to Damien who publically announce it to drive up a players value in exchange for the odd story.

this. he does trade radio after the grand final and hosts it with several player managers. I think he just needs a story to fill the month of nothingness before actual trade week.

but seriously this guy will not stop until he has said every player on the list needs to be traded, and even then he will probably be wrong. And then call for investigations, sanctions and banishment of port from the afl.

I don't know Damien Barrett personally nor have I met him, but I can say with some confidence that I don't like him.

He's a Norf Melbourne supporter. That's all you need to know to know the guy is a certifiable douchebag.
