This is a genuine thread. The WA ruck men are vastly overrated ( sandilands and natanui) I think it is because they are from wa, and no one sees many games and they just go off the media hype. Jacobs and Martin are far superior

Really?? We just won our third premiership in a row and you want to denigrate a ripping young bloke who had tragedy befall him this year and lost a GF through no fault of his own??

Seriously mate, how about you celebrate our club rather than find fault in a team that played out of thier skins this year and was a worthy opponent.

Arguably underrated. His best years have been WCE's best years - 2011, 2012 & 2015. He is in the top 3 for rucks and will be for many years to come - could be no.1 next year with another full pre-season.

Over exposed perhaps but how could you not want to market the guy if you were the Eagles? He is humble, athletic & well spoken.

An easy target for opposing fans as he doesn't have the high stats and today wasn't his best but he had a lot of teammates down as well.

Look where the poster is from .......probably a reflection of the Perth media rather than on NicNat himself.

I would happily welcome NicNat or Sinclair to Hawthorn.
WC blessed with 2 very good rucks, and another decent one as third string.
Not bad considering one of the greatest ruckman to play the game retired last year.

I'm not in anyway saying this at all. This forum gets stuck into every player regardless of skill and background. I've said it for years now that he is. He jumps high and occasionally gets a few good taps. But overall is vastly overrated

I expect Nic Nat and Kennedy took up 75% of the coaching against brain power during the lead up.

Beat them, go a long way to winning. That's a mark of respect for the damage Nic can do.

It's about the timing dude, if someone had made similar comments about Cyril in 2012 just after the GF, then I'd think they lacked class as well.

Naitanui is interesting. His tapwork is pretty much unmatched and he gets some really explosive clearances that can lead to quick scores which other ruckman simply can't do. He's also much faster than all the other ruckman and his tackling pressure is much greater. However offensively he's pretty crappy around the ground - he never really gets separation from his opponent in the forward 50 despite being miles more athletic than his opponents. He just simply can't find the ball. Also for a guy that can jump as high as him, he takes incredibly few marks (on a good day he can take an absolute ripper though). Most days he jumps really high and gets the crowd excited but doesn't actually take the mark.

He is a significant point of difference player but unless he learns to be a smarter footballer he won't ever reach the superstar status that perhaps he has the raw potential to reach. That said - even as he is now, the tapwork, clearance work and breakaway speed alone puts him above pretty much all the other ruckman. The only one i'd take before him is Goldstein. Mumford is up there too except he's always injured/suspended.
