Off topic but is the Simpsons the only show they play up in Brisbane?
Interspersed with constant replays of the 2002 and 2003 grand finals.

Collingwood's 2016 season "Restraint of Trade" members wing - spaces filling fast

It is fun watching Collingwood fans try to work out in their tiny little minds why the Lions won't just hand over a top 10 pick who has shown he will be a B grader at worst for a couple of crappy picks and a spud. How dare the Lions not give Collingwood what they want and what James Aish what he wants. Aish has just completely dicked our club around. He gets no goodwill at all.

With the new rules allowing teams to trade next years first round or second and third round picks it appeared clubs could complete trades with fairer results for both parties however so far it appears to have the opposite effect.

Teams appear emboldened to chase players they previously didn't have the currency for but do now but then continue to chase additional players they don't. eg. Trealor and Aish. In Fremantles case they choose to chase McCarthy contracted for 2 more years and still don't have the currency to tempt GWS IMO.

Collingwood's song derived from Dolly Grey, it was a war dance in the Boer War. The cakewalk meaning on that song was a war dance from North America and not the modern meaning that it's easy.

and here I was thinking a "cakewalk" was your get out of jail free card!

Hope your club stands firm - sometimes you just have to make a stand, even if it means getting squat. Enough is enough, your club isn't a bargain bin for other clubs to peruse at their leisure.

As with my team - Essendon, if the Saints refuse to cough up pick #5 for Carlisle then I hope we send him to the ND/PSD - I don't care if we get nada.

The AFL have got a complete mess on their hands with the current set up of trading - the system is broken completely - huge overhaul is required. What kind of proper professional competition allows players to 'nominate' which club they want to get traded to? As I said in the Essendon board - it effectively kills the market and the selling club almost ALWAYS gets screwed.

Under absolutely no circumstances should Aish be allowed to dictate which club he wants to be traded to - you want to go back to Vic? Fine, we'll decide which Vic club it is, and that will be based on the highest bidder.

I hate the system as well it's outdated and the times have changed where clubs got to pick and the player when to whoever, then money got involved, and loyalty went out the window, and the imbalance in the competition is greater than ever. There should be a massive overhaul is some way 3 years at a club minimum, loyalty bonus outside of the salary cap, something that gives players incentives to say with the club that drafted them, gave them an opportunity

Perhaps the destination club should automatically pay compensation to the club that invested in the draftee on top of the deal, like perhaps 50% of the salary paid? The best way to fix this is through the academies, and the traditional football states should pay massive overs to be a part of it. That is the only way we are going to equalise long term, and produce players who are not flight risks.

Good point but it works both ways not nearly as much as for example players coming to Victoria than the other way around, a luxury tax could be implemented or a fair trade agreement, just something to stop players from moving clubs left right and centre

FWIW I think a fair trade will be done between the 2 clubs. A negotiating process will happen but at the end i believe a fair trade will happen. We were fairly compensated for Beams and i think you will get what roughly what Aish is worth. If the deal helps you secure Bell and your academy picks then it will be a win-win.

So now we're negotiating? **** this spineless club, i swear.

Yeah, look players were moving a hundred years ago and they always will. It's the 'why not?' decisions that are killing things.

If you can get the same money doing the same job, AND get to play golf with your school mates and Sunday dinner with your parents - AND your manager says 'It will get done!', why wouldn't you?

We need a situation where managers say 'I'll do my best'.

Really? Matthews came out and said he wouldnt be traded because your club doesnt believe a fair trade will be struck due to the situation (which is understandable from your previous encounters with similar situations). So why not listen to offers then if they arent what you believe to be fair then send him off to the draft. What do you gain if a fair offer is on the table and you say no and let him walk to the draft?

Sure, but two second round picks isn't being fairly compensated.

I'm hoping Hawthorn are getting in Aish's ear, maybe get him to nominate the Hawks as well.

Then we can do Jed Anderson+18 for Aish+21

Then aggressively throw 17+Steak knives (Bewick or something) at Carlton for Casaboult and Bell.

Then Aish=Bell, Casaboult and Anderson.

Pure joy my friends.

Simple answer is: Would have to be an offer too good to refuse. There's no way to back down from 'no trade' to 'semi decent compensation'. You can talk about 'sensible' and 'reasonable' and Win/win but the walk option (please don't make us explain it again) is more useful than a lukewarm trade to us.

Lets assume Collingwood trade pick 7 and their 2016 2nd rounder for Treloar (note that even if they traded their 2016 first rounder it's irrelevant for us as you basically can't trade your first rounder and second rounder when they're future picks)

What could they actually give us that's fair value?

Say they get 19 for Seedsman (I'm optimistic), and 22 for Freeman. We could call that the core of the trade.

What else do they throw in to make it work? Would 19,21 and 25 do it? I'd be bloody tempted personally.

Our only hope of getting something substantial for Aish seems to lie in another Victorian club getting in his ear.

Pick 22 (Seedsman) & 24 (Freeman) is equal to 845 points + 785 points. 1630 points.

Pick 7 by itself is equal to 1644 points.
Pick 8 by itself is equal to 1551 points.

Those two picks in a points sense and with 2 academy players is more than fair and reasonable.
