Jake Niall's article on the Hendo trade stated that we're the only club that hasn't traded for (and kept) for an extra first round draft pick since 2000.
DVB there's a good reason why we haven't traded for/and kept an extra first round pick since 2000.

It's pretty hard when we didn't get any first round picks in 2002 and 2003. Fmd we were that desperate, with all those penalties, we even drafted Mick Martyn with #84! Also, who does Jake Niall think we could have traded out to get an extra first round pick - Mick Mansfield or Stephen O'Reilly?

Who misses out if we trade in any of Lennon/Mayes/Aish/any other small we're linked to? I'd guess it'd be out of Armfield, Curnow, Holman, Boek and Graham. Better not be Graham though.
Would have to be one of those you mentioned. I would think army would be first on the hit list as he is 29 next year. No point playing him in front of a young gun that is probably gonna have the same output as him.

Going by SOS's interview on the trade wrap I'm not that confident we will be keeping the future pick we got from Geelong. I'm hoping like mad we save it and use it next year in the stronger draft.
But he seems like he wants to trade it for a younger player by the sounds of it.
I feel as if he we use that pick to acquire Tomlinson. Very Smart.

Getting fairly excited about the look of our 22 next year. Would like to see something like this

FB: Buckley - Jammo - Weitering
HB: 2E - Plowman - Simmo
C: Doc - Gibbs - Boekhurst
HF: Walker - Casboult - Armfield
FF: Menzel - Tomilson - Everitt
FOL: Kreuz - Cripps - Murphy
I/C: Graham - Curnow - Holman - Thomas

Still a bit to much age in there with Walker ,Jammo ,Simmo ,Murphy, Thomas and Army all being over 28 and 2E,Gibbs,Casboult,Curnow,Gibbs and Kreuz being 26/27.
Looking at the age profile of that 22 it really shows we are missing players in that 23/24/25 gap.
Would like to see the to Irish boys in there and Walsh to have somewhat of a break out year
ROWE?!

where is Judd? he goes ok.

i hope he can get back to the form of last year. he was playing great footy

He will......can't guarantee it, of course......but from what I've heard, we'll have a much more determined Gibbs next year.
Actually, he doesn't have a choice.

Wasn't feeling the previous coach ?

This year was a write-off for many reasons......but we've already covered that ground.

I understand that Gibbs apologised to the group for his attitude during the course of the year.
Now that may not have happened but if it did, then credit to him and a fillip for the rest of the squad.

Have to give it to Cripps, Docherty and Bell for ploughing through the mire we created this year.

Going to be a looooooong year

Chris Judd was asked for his opinion on what is the best way to rebuild Carlton's list, his answer was 'the best way is to do it quickly'

With the currency we have at the trade table, my view is we shouldn't be focusing on building a list that may become successful in 3-4 years, we need to focus on a list that can be successful within 2 years. If we look too far ahead and go down a conservative trading path, I think we run the risk of being in the same never ending rebuild as Melbourne.

Our greatest weakness is lack of depth of capable players, and we should be looking to draft in as many players that can have an impact as possible.

If Boekhurst gets his fitness to a level where he can play 4 quarters, Jaksch and Whiley play to the level they were projected to reach at GWS then that type of trade is a win for us everyday of the week. Jake Lever could go on to become better than Matthew Scarlett, but if our 3 players reach the output required they give us exactly what our list needs. Add to that the fact the 3 players we recruited were 20 rather than 18, it also means that we wait 2 years for impact rather than 4

If we could turn Pick 1, Yarran, Bell, Henderson and Casboult into 7-8 players that aren't superstars but can play to the level required to be in a premiership team, then we are off to a flyer.

When can we Judd back at the club?

I wouldn't imagine you'd be too successful through the draft in building a team in only 2 years. Give the players time to develop, I can't see us playing finals for 4-5 years and probably 7-8 years before we're a realistic flag chance, assuming everything goes right.

Dunno. Don't forget how dire our injury situation was last year. A fit Gibbs and Thomas could make a large difference. Plus Menzel was underdone and Kreuze only just getting back into it. There should also be natural improvement from the likes of Boek, the Irish lads, Jaksch, Docherty etc etc. There is scope for a fair bit of improvement.

on the live trade chat on herald sun they reckon the yarran deal will get done today, with a 3 way trade involving brisbane.

gave 2 hypotheticals, which would we prefer, and which is more likely to happen?

A.
Carlton: 17 (bris)
Bris: Astbury, 31 (rich) 49 (rich)
Rich: Yarran 57 (Bris)

B.
Carlton: 21 (bris) 31 (rich) 49 (Rich)
Bris: astbury, 38 (carl)
Rich: Yarran 57 (bris)

Not necessarily advocating going through the draft. Looking forward 7-8 years in this industry makes little sense to me, look back 7-8 years and we only have 6 players still on our as do the current premiers

Richmond essentially give up nothing.

i personally think richmond should do this:

yarran, 38, 57 for 12

38 and 57 to GWS for townsead and 45

astbury, 31 and 45 to brisbane for 17

They end up with yarran townsead and 17 for 12 31 and astbury

i know its not ideal:

but essentially we trade yarran and 38 for 21 31 45

end up trading 21, 31 and 45 to GWS for tomlinson, plowman etc? not a bad result if we could trade yarran and our third for those boys

If nothing else happens today can we please get rid of Warnock..........to anyone, for anything!

(In a Forrest Gump accent) - I think I'm gunna go pray now!
