Here's a thought - what if they were wrong?

It still reflects nothing against Scott. You're holding him responsible for the performance of an independent department whose job is to maintain the health of the players and provide accurate recommendations to those without medical expertise.

To hold Scott accountable for the performance of the medical department would be an excellent example of bad governance.

The only case in which he could be accountable is if he disregarded their advice.

With far more versatility among the talls now, providing they're all fit, Scott really has no excuses not to swing moves as required, now he's got a well rounded group which also includes Dangerfield and Selwood Scooter into the mids.
Even the ruck division is looking formidable, well at least on paper.
I think he's safe with the players now at his disposal, we'll no doubt improve.

No, because you don't get there by accident. We were good enough to win the games we did. They certainly weren't ordinary, but the finals results showed that in September they were nowhere near Hawthorn, and unable to get past North.
Yep, I thought we played average football all year and really, its no 'accident' that Scott managed to get us so high on the ladder, given how ordinary we were. But happy to disagree on this one.

It certainly would be. Which is why it isn't what I said. I said someone should held accountable, and if it was the medical staff's call then that's who it is.

Why does it have to be someone's fault ? no mistake was made .It is no body's fault Hawkins had a bulging disk.

He did not wake up in a condition unable to play in the QF final because he hadn't been rested , he woke up because he had a bulging disc. Rest was not going to fix this .

I don't agree with Fremantle's midfield being that much better than ours, I believe we lost that game because they were better prepared, they're pressure and intensity was far greater and their structures worked better.

What did I see? I saw Steve Johnson get a mountain of the ball in the first quarter, then got the Crowley tag and barely got a sniff after that; why wasn't he moved forward to not only try and break the tag but also kick some goals, which we were only able to kick 9 of?
We had no movement up forward, which allowed for Ross Lyon put players down back and then slingshot forward, where we got caught out every time.

All I can go by is what I see and the results we get.

Don't start this nonsense about Scott not making any changes during the game , its a fairy tale .Coaches make more than 20 positional changes a quarter .As for structural changes , the way the game is played today with 18 players around the ground us supporters don't notice most structural changes, they are too subtle .I am sure Johnson would of been played up forward .

Sorry they have 4 Big bodies A grade midfielders that are well backed up , we have just 1 joel selwood .

Notice how the media have never criticised Scott like they criticised Thompson for finals loses ?

Even cook came out and said Scott had proven himself to be a really good coach early in 2014 ?

Can you get something right ?his whole bloody post almost is about the 2013 QF final.
Does this sound like 2013?

I'm going to give you my honest appraisal of Chris Scott as a coach;
I think he did a great job getting the team up in 11' because I'm sure they would have been both physically and mentally drained during that offseason.
I think he needs to be more proactive as a game-day coach and stop playing players out of position.
Hopefully with these new inclusions, a healthy list and another preseason we will get a better indication of what our game plan is supposed to resemble.

Absolutely I think he can improve as a coach and I hope he becomes a multiple premiership winning one for this club, but i do not agree with your theory on him being flawless and not needing to accept any responsibility for our recent history.

I don't agree with you and I'm tired of arguing the same points over and over again.

At the end of the day we all want the club to be successful so let's just leave it at that.

.
Settle down mate, I wasn't generalising about Chris Scott's overall ability as a coach, I clearly stated that IMO he was out-coached by Ross Lyon in the 2013 Qualifying Final.

You argued that Fremantle had a superior midfield to us, yet in that game we still had premiership midfielders in Corey, Bartel, Kelly, Johnson, Selwood, Chapman, Stokes, Duncan as well as young players in Motlop, Caddy and Guthrie; Still pretty capable I think.

We were standing right behind the goals and trust me we saw everything that was happening or wasn't happening.

BTW Paul Chapman had 11 possessions and 5 tackles in a little over a quarter and the week after he was B.O.G against Port Adelaide so imagine if he had of played a full game....

By playing it got so sore that he just couldn't play anymore.

That's were your wrong , your assuming it was playing football that made his back sore .

People who have a bulging disc usually have good and bad day , that goes for AFL footballers and the rest of us .It was just unfortunate that his bad day was on the day of the QF.

I'm sorry, I've been told before that unless one has a medical background speculating on injuries is forbidden. If you haven't got the letters 'MD' after your name you'll be informed of that.

They could well have been. But at the time, do you go against the experts or do you trust their expertise? That is my point. If I recall, the docs were saying that rest wouldn't help and playing wouldn't make it any worse than it already was. So what would you do given that information?

Forbidden? Haven't seen anything of the sort. Are you sure you aren't over-embellishing for dramatic effect?

I think you may be right....Vdubs doesn't have MD after his name but comments frequently on injuries..but hey, why ruin a good story.

Whatever you say Dr Crazy.

Just from my father's experience, in this case I think geelong_crazy26 is pretty spot on.

Sadly that's how I know too .From my mothers experience ,she has 2 bulging discs and sometimes for no apparent reason wakes up in absolute unbearable pain.

I don't think that's true, a few weeks earlier Scott said this.

Geelong star forward Tom Hawkins' nagging back injury is expected to force him out of Saturday night's AFL clash with West Coast in Perth.

The Cats' reigning best and fairest winner has struggled noticeably to bend and run at pace during the past two rounds.

While Geelong had previously maintained that playing with the injury was not aggravating it, coach Chris Scott admitted on Tuesday it was probably time to give Hawkins a rest.

"He was certainly the worst on the weekend that he's been for a little while," Scott told the Cats' website.

"In some respects, things have changed a little bit in the way we're going to manage Tom.

Thing is I am supporting what the club doctors said, what the specialist said and doctor peter larkins said .

Unfortunately my mother has 2 bulging discs that cant be fixed , hers are worse than Hawkins but she has good days and terrible days .You will find this is the case with nearly everyone with a bulging disc .
