Movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens - *Spoilers & Rumours inside*

Dan is a bit of a bell end, but I think he might be right.

Based on that, the StarKiller doesn't destroy the sun it's pulling energy from, it just takes what it needs; and its energy weapon shoots through hyperspace (which is a bit *******), so it wouldn't need to move.

Technically it does destroy the sun, it "sucked" it all up. Trouble is though, we don't know where the base got it's previous bit of energy from when it destroyed the Republic planets, which suggests it does move.

Anyway, best we leave that right there as per DarkOldNavyBlues warning.

I watched it again, liked it better. So it's a 8/10 for me, up from 7.5.

What bugged me the most still was the reaction of the destroyed Hosnian system, and how trivial they treated it. Supposedly the capitol of the New Republic, and it wasn't expanded on.

What bugged me is how it looked in the sky from the rebel base. That was totally ridiculous!!!!

Planets blowing up in another system would be totally invisible even to our best telescopes. Even if the base was in the Hosnian system itself you would be struggle to notice the event with the naked eye at night.

It’s impossible to see the films through the same eyes. If somehow they were reversed and ANH was released now I’m sure we would find loads in it that would annoy us.

I think the important thing to remember is that this film is just setting the scene. I remember walking out of The Fellowship of the Ring and being completely underwhelmed. But once I’d seen Return of the King it totally changed my view of the first movie.

ANH is a really basic film with very simple characters. So much of the real gravitas, grit and complexity we love comes after it.

I think JJ was a great choice to create the crash and bash energy it needed for its reintroduction. Reckon Rian Johnson is an even better choice to really push the boundaries in the next one.

Can forgive them for doing that as it was never supposed to be scientifically accurate, they just conveniently named it "hyperspace flux" or something.

Good point. But even in ANH, there were a few lines about the Imperial senate being completely disbanded, and governors ruling over sectors. I just wish it had that simple dialogue to explain a bit of the background.

Johnson's movie will be darker, and I reckon he'll take some risks and come up with something unique.

He should rename himself DARK OLD NAVYs, so then he can go by the name of The Don.

Too close to The Dons for my liking.

I'm not convinced on this Rian bloke. Someone give me better explanations deeper than listing his work. What about his work gives you confidence? What does he do well? What doesn't he?

I though Looper was pretty plain but haven't seen other stuff.

Looper was fantastic.

Rian excels at shot composition. Every shot is very well thought out, interesting camera angles, and interesting/weird camera tricks -- like in Brick where there's a shot of someone lying on bed looking up at the ceiling, the fan isnt moving, but the ceiling is spinning around and around. Stuff like that.

One thing I don't particularly like is that his scripts tend to be kind of film noir inspired, the dialogue between actors. A lot of that cool suave and jargon-based kind of chatter between people, that raised eyebrow, cool-tough kind of thing. In "Brick" this was overdone, and it doesn't engender warmth or contact with the characters from the audience. They come across kinda wooden due to that. Not a natural dialogue.

I just love this scene tho, specifically how kick-ass it is, and imagining this done in star wars -- specifically, the dark ominous music in the background, everything else silent, in slow-mo....

If you think about it Leia has had a pretty rough life lol.

1. Her home planet gets destroyed.
2. Luke goes missing for years.
3. Han leaves her.
4. Finds out that he's dead by her own son.

5. Kisses Luke in ESB only to find out in ROTJ they're twins.

You left off

0. Her Mum Died.
0.5 Tortured By Her Father.
1.5 Forced to be Jabba's slave.

TBH, none of that sounds attractive to Star Wars. I love the was Lucas presented every film. Nothing wrong with the camera work and editing.

What we need is someone able to craft an environment, a setting, a story, with feeling and atmosphere, and the well known character and writing issues Lucas didn't do well.

Luckily JJ is on as producer and will hopefully step in when required to guide the film along..

The best film in the saga had the least involvement from Lucas in terms of camera work and editing.

Also, remember that the template for Star Wars has been built to some extent, so Rian has a lot of ready made tools at his disposal as well as the extensive and vastly experienced crew to help him out, and JJ..

It'll be his job to make sure everyone is doing their job well and the tone of the camera work will be
His style to some extent, but he's not doing everything, he's directing a massive crew..with JJ there...

It's also nice to remember that most of the crew were more than passionate about wanting this film to succeed..so you have a huge chunk of the crew who love Star Wars, going beyond what they might normally do and really investing time and energy to make the film as memorable as possible, because they all like Star Wars..makes things easier to be a success, sort of...

So Rian should be fine...
