Not sure, its a little different in my book. Ryder is a KPP who is worth the gamble as Monfries is not. Port might have still taken him but more likely as a FA rather then a good faith trade.
Didn't port trade for him so they still got compo for Chaplain and Pearce? They got 3 good years out of a 3rd round pick.

They will be missing a million dollars of talent in this year's salary cap but not much Essendon can do about that. I'm not sure what Koch is trying to achieve other than getting his melon all over other TV stations.

Pretty sure they could have taken Flopfrees as a free agent, but decided to trade, so it wouldn't affect their compo for Denial Pearce and Slippy Chaplin

Yeah what Paladin said

They gave up 48, but got 3 of the 4 years of his contract. They can have pick 100.
Wonder how he feels being talked about like food fodder by his President. Wonder if he told the power about the drugs at any stage before Essendon "self confessed".....

You are correct. If you exclude all Essendon games from the 2012 Brownlow counting. Thompson wins on 25 ahead of Mitchell 24, Cotchin 23.

Thommo gets a contractual retrospective bonus, we're over the cap and the AFL now have their means to punish us over the doping scandal.

Cannot believe the stance of the AFL and in particular Gill Mclaughlin!

Their No 1 priority now (according to the above) is to get Essendon back on track!!....sorry wrong answer......No1* priority must be to make sure the "club culture" that he pined over does not allow this archaic attitude to ruin young players lives and careers in future..........Essendon's plight is self inflicted and they must now suffer the consequences. To no other club's expense.

There should be a major enquiry regarding "club culture" and its "win at all costs" consequences for those who are its victims.
This is the original cause of the problem Gill. The players families want answers. They couldn't care less about the Bombers.

*Essendon should be #259 on his list of priorities right behind seagull eradication at the MCG.

ASADA only charged those players they were sure the case could be upheld about the TB4. A team has more than 34 players and it was acknowledged that pretty much the whole team was involved, including rookies. Only 34 were charged. The evidence is available in the judgement released yesterday. I suggest you read it and it is very, very damming on the players. They are not innocent little victims the media, the AFL and the AFLPA are trying to push. Some in the media are now starting to understand that.

How about lying to ASADA representatives? How about lying by omission to a cardiologist who is trying to treat you? How about not following any of the processes that you have been told to follow? In order to have an attempt at a clean, level playing field, one innocent, one, might get labelled, but the totality of the evidence has now given me no sympathy for their continual partaking of this doping regime and in fact enabling it by their compliance and hiding evidence of it.

You do realise that under the drug code not telling testers where you are also carries a 2 year ban when there is a repeat offence occurring? A couple of aussie athletes found that out recently.

I understand the charges, the reasons for the verdict and everything else. I still have a similar opinion as Gillon McLachlan regarding the punishment being too severe and that the WADA code is not the best thing for team sports and needs to be reviewed and fixed. I know these 34 lads are getting very little sympathy, I can't help but feel sympathy for these guys who have probably now been punished more severely, due to how this has affected them for the last 3 years plus the 2 year ban, than most drug cheats considering the circumstances surrounding why they were charged in the first place. IMO

Lol, not surprised you thought that.

We can add the AFL to the AFC who can do no wrong.:D
Given that Sanders even likes the post would tend to suggest I'm not the only one with that opinion. Sorry for not following the group think. The CEO will always stick up for the players, especially given that Essendon are a huge money maker for the AFL.

So if essendon don't have to pay their players this year , can they massively front end contracts and have a crack at some big names next year?
I believe the suspended players will still get paid, and their existing contracts will still be counted in their salary cap.
Essendon will be given an additional allowance for the salary paid to the top up players, and they'll receive some relief from the AFL to help with this.

This seems the most likely. If the players had employed Dank outside of club directives, then it would possibly be different. But there's no way that they wouldn't be able to at least get the full value of their contracts out of Essendon.

I wouldn't waste your time. He is clasping at straws based on the old naive attitudes of club sport in the Australia. We could throw facts at him all day and he will still wheel out James Hird style propaganda because thats what he has believed for the last 3 years.

I'm actually listening to what NikkiNoo has to say, how is that a waste of time?

Found it. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-01-12/afl-reveals-contingency-plan-for-weakened-bombers

McLachlan announced a range of measures which were considered by the AFL Commission last month in the event of player suspensions, which include:

- Essendon having the ability to upgrade its five rookie-listed players as replacements for suspended players, as though the suspended players had long-term injuries.
- The Bombers can add 10 'top-up' players to their list, not limited to previous AFL players only.
- Existing contract values for the listed players who have been suspended shall be included in the cap.
- Extra payments to supplementary players will be included in the club's salary cap but Essendon will receive an allowance for payments to supplementary players over the cap limit.
- Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs will each be able to upgrade one rookie to their senior lists as a replacement player.

Can someone get the Sack Gillon avatars ready?
#standbyintegrity

I've got one if you want :/

I expected the ALFPA to come out to bat for the players, but I'm quite disappointed with the response from the AFL. We all were made aware that Essendon's previous penalties were only for "governance" issues, so for them to escape further draft sanctions following the CAS decision seems incredibly lenient. McDevitt and ASADA who can hold their heads up high, and I'm only sympathetic towards Doc Reid - earlier on the AFL tried to make him the fall guy, but the CAS findings support that he was kept in the dark.

Ryder and Monfries were too concerned about their former team mates than their new team in not wanting to cut a deal.

And Tealsters still support these two guys lol.
