I think the slower gamestyle works well against certain sides.. good thing to be able to switch between gameplans though

We are not a one gameplan club like Freo which is good. Rubbish article

Absolutely spot on. I think weve shown we can switch it up pretty much game by game.

Its just about fine tuning each style and becoming better at implementing them.

I do think we need to go a little faster overall though, it will help us beat the lower sides more easily and earlier in the game

will the slow low scoring gameplan work on grand final day didnt work for freo . if we got
hawks we could beat them with it on grand final day. keepings off :drunk:

we only need 3 goals per game to match them. lennon yarran and a few straight kicks from cotchin and we have that. plus lids being fit at the start of the year would be nice. vickery in form for a whole season and we start to look pretty potent up forward... then there's rioli

Interesting: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-01-...by-horror-elimination-final-loss-to-kangaroos

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick is still haunted by his team's contested ball capitulation in last year's elimination final, with one number seared in his brain.

The Tigers uncharacteristically lost the contested possession count against North Melbourne by 33 in their 17-point loss at the MCG, exiting the finals at the first hurdle for the third straight year.

The manner of the loss prompted Hardwick to deliver what he said was possibly the biggest spray of his coaching career.

"I still remember that number – 33 – that number still haunts me," Hardwick told AFL.com.au.

Lol, Dimma's favourite stat. That aside, this article shows to me that this loss bothered them probably more than what it bothered us.

Tear it apart this year lads :thumbsu:

i bet it bothered the, we should have won, we were extremely poor at something we are normally very very good at. we did nearly everything right (you can see the improvement in each EF). we were horribly let down by our best players on the day.

Interesting that they are considering a contract extension pretty soon. If he is in demand by other clubs then okay but I don't see that as an issue. It could be to remove the distraction or even take pressure off the club? I would hold off until the bye round and then review any extension :thumbsu:

the bye round is probably a bit too long. 3 finals appearances in a row, are a good starting point. sure it sucks to loose them but winning finals takes time. how long have teams such as the swans, hawks and cats been up there a decade or more. just keep making finals and finals wins will come.

let's not put too much focus on Yarran, he is after all coming from the train wreck that is the blues and h has 21 mates out there each week.

Let him ease into the season off HB or even the wing. Hard to just gel with the team game plan from day one so let's see what he does this year and build from there. Is only 25 after all

God I hate this time of the year, anticipation, stupid pre season games while waiting for rnd 1 still some two months away :( time the AFL dumped the pre season and started rnd 1 in February:thumbsu:

Yeah our best players didn't have a good day on the field. However, I think North Melbourne simply have the upper hand against us. We won the contested possessions against them in the Round 6 game, but still lost.

I have mentioned this before, but outside of Round 23 last year (where North played their VFL side), North Melbourne have not scored any less than 100 points against us in a match since 2009. That covers the entire reigns of Damien Hardwick and Brad Scott at Richmond and North Melbourne respectively. In contrast, we have conceded less than a 100 against every side at some point in 2015, let alone the last 6 years. They just match up really well against our defence.

Therefore, the problem may not have been the EF in of itself this time around unlike the past. It may have just been our strategy going into games against North Melbourne altogether. What the problem is though, I can't tell you.

Well unless there is a better candidate out there and the club are happy with three finals and no wins then fine but the pressure will be intense if we finish between 5th & 8th and face another EF. Need to make top four but then we have two chances at going out in straight sets :D

agree with you. north play us really really well imo. their combination of talls seems to really hurt us (but the hawks dont lol) huge amounts of experience on that list too. and when we look on top harvey comes into the game and sparks them. Just time imo. the EF was the best we have played vs them imo

That is what I also think. We weren't THAT bad in the EF, and could have beaten a lot of teams playing the way we did. It was just not enough for beating North.

Hardwick has a lot of homework to do on North Melbourne

At the end of the day the only stat that matters is total points. I can see what King is saying that we need to attack more and Yarran gives us an option but we have enough blokes out there that have turned in repeat shockers in our EF losses, and I am not talking about fringe players either. You can blame strategy but it's the performance of senior players that has been the problem in our finals. Mentally weak?

It shites me no end that Hardwick is Scotts bitch as I hate norf with a passion (probably more than any other club now). Need to put a solid win in against norf in the season and bury that demon.

Re game style, didn't we go into 2015 with grand plans to be more attacking only to ditch it at about round 4 for the more slow/deliberate style. At the end of the day we didn't have enough attacking and quick players to pull it off. That can change with the new crop of recruits from 2014/15 who have genuine leg speed and disposal skills but will still take a year or 2 or 3 to happen imo.

aaaaaaahhhhhhh. OK I know the NAB is considered no big deal in the scheme of things but I soooooo want to see some 2016 footy.

I've watched all last season again, gnawed on the tidbits of training videos, read all the opinions re 2016 here until they go on repeat and now I am READY.

Sigh. Sorry. Just want the season to start.

Height up forward. I'd love to see Elton come in this season for a block of games.

Will be playing three to four there this year I reckon with Jack, Vickery, Griff whilst not rucking. Can only see Hampson coming in for one of them really. Elton should be working his rear end off in the VFL as Chaps replacement in the second half of this year.
