None of them mimic each other Janis by those measurements.. how about 3 or 4 training bases

This is my issue with Alberton Oval - 170m x 130m. Compare that to the MCG (160x141m), Etihad (159.5m x 128.8m). The dimensions are perfect for playing at Adelaide Oval (167.05m x 123.93m), because they are almost identical, but if we want to get an advantage against other teams we need to do some match sim on an oval that mimics the dimensions of those other two grounds.
So while we would never move from Alberton, there is no reason why we couldn't expand into the city and create an 'elite sports facility' that is tied to what Burgess is doing with UniSA. Then our players could train there twice a week, AO once a week and Alberton twice a week and get the leg up that clubs like Hawthorn receive by having dedicated elite facilities.

Cotchin logic.Does a few meters the length of the oval really make that much difference?
Just kick into the wind if you want to simulate a longer oval![]()
Talking about wind .. I wish that a few on MMM would piss into the windDoes a few meters the length of the oval really make that much difference?

Well that description means they won't really be Port, that's his point.ReallY? Well, I would never stop following Port Adelaide, never!
Huge difference. .Does a few meters the length of the oval really make that much difference?

In my up coming The New Arms Race - Mega facilities thread, you will see that WCE, Hawthorn and Geelong are building facilities with MCG dimension ovals for training. I think Freo's new $109m facility shared with Curtain Uni, will have MCG dimension oval or they have access to one away from the new facility and Essendon's two ovals at Tullamarine are the exact dimensions of MCG and Docklands ovals. This is my issue with Alberton Oval - 170m x 130m. The only one that can't be done there with redrawn lines is the width of the MCG. And after watching too many games at the MCG where the team had a fascination for going wide, Wide!, WIDER!! I'll take them as pretending the extra 5 metres each side doesn't exist when we play there (unless chasing down the opposition). We pretty much do this don't we? The boundaries are drawn to mimic other ovals for match-sim purposes, I thought.
Hopefully with the profits we are making we can set aside a few G's to redevelop the seats in the Quinn stand
Also improve the lights so if it's a dark day we can see more clearly.
As well as improving player facilities further.
Be nice if we could do a deal with Tennis SA and have a joint/permanent bar plus commercial outlet on their grounds and have Port paraphernalia on show 365 days a year, similar to what Adelaide had at football park.
It will be.
Do you think the turf used at training grounds should be the same as the main ground played ie Adelaide Oval?In my up coming The New Arms Race - Mega facilities thread, you will see that WCE, Hawthorn and Geelong are building facilities with MCG dimension ovals for training. My mate and I stood in front of the Williams family stand at the family day and he noticed the boundary in front of the Quinn stand seemed to be 2 or 3 metres further in from the fence than normal. He asked if I knew why and the only logical explanation I could think of is that we have changed the dimension of Alberton to be the same as Adelaide Oval. If the oval surface area, both length and width allows us to have the exact dimension as AO, including the right angle of the curves, then why not do it?
Imagine a pub or premises Port Afelaide owned near tehovalWhy the hell would the club leave Alberton, its our greatest asset. Players training there get the feel of a proper ground, they see the history and the facilities are very good. Its a 15 minute drive to the City ffs, it's not like it's in Gawler!
Having some clubrooms in the city however is a different matter and would make a lot of sense.
Or buy a plaque on Scott HQI would vote a big YES to invest/donate in Alberton Oval any day or time of the week..... if all the 54,628 members donated $10.00 (just sacrifice a beer, gourmet Hot Dog, glass of wine) at a home game, we could possibly raise $540,628 to do what RossFC proposes, actiongreggars with that great suggestion. Alberton Oval.
Ok, you not going to get 54,628 members donate at a home game, 50% would be a great start.
The club could also start a campaign to revive Alberton Oval by sending out to all members, a chance to invest in the club and in return heavily discounted prices or at cost on all products.
No point. Alberton is used by so many teams.and players it gets cut up so much compared to Adelaide Oval. The turf at AO is a mixture of grasses to keep both footy and cricket happy. We should be using the best grass for football.Do you think the turf used at training grounds should be the same as the main ground played ie Adelaide Oval?
Having three ovals will be expensive but they'll save some money from not having to buy goal posts for them...I believe Freo are putting in three different ovals at their new training facility - one the dimensions of the new Perth Stadium, one the dimensions of the MCG, one the dimensions of Etihad. It's a one percenter in off field terms but well worth it if a club has the money/land available to them.
There's a reason we are generally garbage at etihad compared to the G and subiaco..

SCG too. We generally suck on thimbles and dominate on long decks.
Please footy gods, may 2016 be different. I'm so sick of losing to the Swans - hopefully round 20 at the SCG will be a game to savour for Port fans!!!SCG too. We generally suck on thimbles and dominate on long decks.
Did we not beat Hawthorn at Etihad .. thought we played ok there that game ..Teams push us out to the boundaries and we have no room to run. We don't like the corridor at the best of times so the SCG or Etihad arnt our favourite grounds.
