What was Hogans?
“When Hogan was lining up for one of his three goals against the Doggies last week, rival skipper Robert Murphy was apparently doing his best to put him off by screaming ‘you can’t miss this, you’re Melbourne’s great white hope’,” Carey wrote in Fairfax newspapers.

“Indeed, in his 16th season, Murphy probably had every right to believe that sledging a first-year player might work. Which is why Hogan’s response, after kicking the goal, is truly priceless. ‘And there’s your great white hope,’ he retorted, pointing to Tom Boyd, who was sitting on the Dogs’ bench at the time.” Burn!

The thing is you can only retort to what you are sledged with.

Brown pretty much nailed his retort. And there is not much better that you can reply with. Quick, witty, dry effective.

Bob Murphy opened up with dripping sarcasm. It's like the big wind up on a round house punch..... if you land it, its a ko. But if the opposition dodge the punch you are left wide open. Hogans reply had much more impact because the initial sledge was more powerful.

Both good replys. Hogans is better due to circumstance.

Bump, he's looking good now with a career high 26 disposals on the weekend, a lot more attacking.
Still only 23, very good decision maker & a massive upgrade on Doughty.
Looks like he's set to peak along with Laird who only turned 22 a few months ago!

Our entire back 6 have an average age of 23.
Just think how good this group will be when they're hitting 25-26 years of age with 100-150 games experience.

We really run with a back 7. Talia, Hartigan, Lever, Cheney, Smith, Laird and Brown. Doesn't change the average age but I just wanted to point that out. It's a fine example of good list management.

Totally forgot about including Lever, amazing that it's his second year... Looks like an absolute gun in the making. More value as a CHB when fully developed or third tall? I'm thinking third tall because it allows him to leave his man a lot more than if he was playing on the 2nd best key forward.

Third tall. Wasted if he just stops his opponent and doesn't use his weapons

At this stage I prefer him as a help defender rather than a stopper. Has a creative attacking game which should be utilised.

Gee.....beware if these guys can all stay together. Those magical years where we actually pulled off flags was when we were up there with the best in defence. Although the game has changed a billion percent since dem VHS days.....if you are stopping the opposition from scoring you definitely have a better chance of winning a game. What I love about Brown....and Laird...is they both look too small to be as damaging as they are, yet seem to do it so consistently. Kudos for the deal that saw Brown and Crouch come to our great club.....which became more paramount after the Tippogate debacle.

Great to see Browneye showing the attacking game which he's always been capable of. Remember his early norwood days, should have won the Jack Oatey medal in 2012, Smithers style attack.

Finally looking like his old Norwood days, attacking out of defense. Loving that he's now not only a stopper and living up to his potential.

Certainly is. Its funny how some people/supporters just expect young blokes to adjust to AFL after being in SANFL/TAC level. He is a gun and never lets the team down or us supporters!

Love Browny. Just gets the job done and is rarely beaten, week in, week out:hearts::hearts::hearts:.

The best part is that opposition supporters have no idea who he is. Here is an easy way for them to remember though - he's the answer to the question:
why was [insert best small forward here] so quiet this week against Adelaide? 'Cos he just got LUKE ****ING BROWNed!!!

Just read on foxsports that in 23 games last year, he conceded just 17 goals to his direct opponent.

That is beyond phenomenal.
They're ridiculous numbers. Did they have a comparison against other SDs?

Love it that he's still an enigma to everyone else in the comp. Rarely gets mentioned in the media. Just quietly goes about his business.
