Never even heard of Raffaello - thought you were talking ninja turtles at first (Donatello is best!). Guylian is probably my favourite chocolate. I can smash a while box in one sitting and feel like shit for the rest of the day with no regrets.

I rarely give money, I'll always give a cigarette though.
Part of the reason I never give them money.

They can afford to bloody smoke but don't buy themselves ****ing food.

Life on the streets seems pretty shit to me. Maybe a ciggy that isn't made up from scavenged dog ends can go a small way to improving that

Yeah definitely would be, but surely food would be more important.

I volunteer from time to time for The Big Umbrella, a not for profit that sets up outside Flinders St station on Thursday nights to feed people who sleep rough. Food gets donated from businesses all over the city and we feed anyone who lines up--we cook them pancakes, give them a soft drink or bottle of water, there's always fruit and veg and Bakers Delight donates heaps. It's really eye-opening and some of them just want someone to look them in the eye and have a chat. It's a great experience.

Think you will find most homeless people are intellectually disabled or have a learning disablity of some form.
I find it sad that there are people who are sleeping outside in some gutter freezing their ass off especially in winter.
Would I give them money. No as they would most likely not know how to handle it.
These people need carers or someplace that will board them and provide them food.

The majority of homeless people don't deserve our money.

Like the post ballsy opinion but couldn't disagree more. For some the fine line between been a millionaire and homeless is wafer thin. For the majority: Not everyone has it easy/is blessed with the genetics or ability to do things most people take for granted. Building networks/ a friendship base/ and hence get a job being extroverted enough to perform day in day out in a ruthlessly competitive workplace is simply beyond some people. And if you are no good at making money you are ****ed in this country.

What ultimately do you propose someone sleeping in the cold do?

Don't get me wrong a part of me greatly admires the ballsy approach of Thatcherism/the extreme right for sticking to their guns and making the hard calls on humanity. But at the same time if it all goes **** up for them French revolution style I can't say I'd have much sympathy if it ultimately turns to shit.

People who like Raffaellos are like people who would buy a Bounty when a Snickers or Mars was on offer.

Not people you need in your life.
Agree, but they do serve the purpose of eating the shit chocolates in a box of Favourites.

Bountys are way better than Mars and Snickers.

Well, you're posting in the right thread for that. I don't even like Snickers that much.

My statement more comes from a cynical POV that I think if I give them money they will use it to buy smokes, rather than something useful, like food.

Granted they can do what they want with it, but for me it's a waste. Guess that's a whole other can of worms though.

I don't mind buying people something to eat, but sometimes it gets rejected.

Sucks when that happens. I work in the food industry and my business card can get free meals at a bunch of places. I've handed that out on occasion. Reactions have ranged from a hug to swearing at me.
