If we sign another top quality mid like Xhaka either Allen or Lucas will need to move on with Grujic also coming on board.

I do like Allen, he has performed well when asked this season and has probably done enough to earn a new deal. He could easily be a regular starter at all but the top 6-7 EPL clubs.

But this is football and we need to be ruthless. Lucas can play in defence and is an important link between the brazillians in our squad and the local lads. Also great for dressing room morale. Unfortunately Allen is the one to go for me if - and that's a big "if" we sign another top quality CM.

A midfield of Henderson, Xhaka, Can, Grujic & Lucas is good enough to compete with anyone in the league. At a stretch we also have the likes of Milner who can play at CM also if needed.

Could only see Milner replacing Lallana out wide to do a job defensively in that line up. Otherwise there's nobody else he would replace.
If we buy Gotze he replaces Lallana in that lineup and if we buy Xhaka he would replace either Henderson or Can.

Someone said that he has 3 assists in 4 starts this season (all over the last month since returning from a loan with Wolves)? Bloody impressive, this guy has end product in spades. He has Ibe's physicality and athleticism, but also the awareness and ability to slow down and guide the ball into exactly the right position - whereas Ibe will often get himself into a threatening position in the final third and then just hit the ball aimlessly into the area. I think Cooldude said it once but the way he passes and crosses the ball is uncannily Barnes-like.

Milner has quietly put together a really good debut season for us. He's definitely in our best XI right now.

Milner, Joe Allen and Lucas are the three that probably wont be happy being squad players and if we bring in some top talent for next season, some players might want to move on.

Grujic is already on his way and we've been heavily linked to Zielinski, another young CM. But if both of those come in, being young I cant see them usurping Allen/Milly/Lucas in CM.

Can is a beast and starts and hopefully we have a fit Hendo all next season. Midfield is definitely the most interesting area of the field for us come the summer.
