So after dropping the 'zone off' game plan for the last month, and blowing teams out of the park, Chris Scott decides this week we should go back to the ridiculous notion of standing off the opposition and letting them be first to the ball. The amount of times I watched Geelong running to open spaces instead of running at the player or the ball, had me pulling my hair out in frustration.
When will Chris Scott get it through his thick head we are a far better side when we are controlling the footy!!!!!!

Other notable issues:
: George Horlin Smith is not up to AFL standard. I counted at least 4-5 overhead marks that were very gettable, that went to ground
: Jed Bews is terrible under pressure
: Josh Caddy puffs his chest out like a peacock on heat, but has the grunt of a canary
: instead or worrying about rotating our younger, smaller players, maybe we should be concentrating on rotating some senior players. Blokes like Harry Taylor, Andrew Mackie, and Corey Enright are starting to look very tired.

Not much you can do as a coaching staff when the players put in a first quarter effort like that after such an impressive couple of weeks, followed by continual fumbling and poor goal kicking throughout the game; that's on the players in my book.

What I have an issue with is continual slow ball movement, especially out of our defence. This allows teams to set up and is very reactive.

It's no coincidence that we did it against GWS and now Collingwood and it has resulted in two loses. We also did it against a heavily depleted Essendon for a very uninspiring win.

On the flip side, all of our wins have seen quick ball movement, especially the last two weeks.

I don't like it, move the ball and get the results please.

Pretty hard when 3 clearances for danger is the 3rd best behind Selwood (6) and Caddy(5). Not easy to control the footy when you aren't winning it out of the centre as much as you should be.... and when you do fumble the ball.

Correct. So isn't Scott having a change from a control the footy game plan. Glad we cleared that up

Ok. I see your point to na degree......I'm mainly asserting to when Collingwood are in possession of the pill and the lack of work we did to meet the player....instead running to fill spaces

You think the coaches tell the players that if they see a lose player to go slow and let the opposition set their structures up ?

I understand what your saying but the way we have moved the ball out of our defence has got us too 2nd spot on the ladder after games. If we go back to the way we used to try and almost constantly play on than you run the risk of the opposition scoring too often from turnovers .

I agree with your about today but I think that's more down to the players , the coaches would want us to always move the ball as fast as possible.

And I don't mean blindly hand balling to someone kamikaze style like 07'-08' because teams are aware of it, but things like kicking it quickly into the corridor and using run and carry, not short slow side kicks that go backwards and gain nothing.

I have no doubt that it's player driven because I've seen them move it live this year and it's been terrific, but I've also seen them hold it up for no obvious reason and that's frustrating.

Geelong has won 14 of 25 games at the MCG since it won the 2011 premiership in Chris Scott's first year as coach. It has won just one final in five attempts at the venue since that flag.

Make that 14 of 26 now. Not a great record for a team that has won as many games as we have. Our system that works so well in Geelong doesn't seem to translate so well to the ground where we'll most need it to win a premiership.

Yep, but I imagine that is mostly Hawks -who have beaten everyone there and been the best team in the comp, so not a surprise. And Collingwood-who have just always matched up well on us for some reason. And we have been an ordinary team for a couple of years whose midfield wasn't good enough for the g. Its good enough now and we will do ok there this year.

2/3 this year, which is all that really counts, the rest is just a mildly amusing byway of history.

yeah that's a bit worrying.

said a couple of times in the autopsy thread, Collingwood regularly burned us by using the width of the ground; when they switched play they kicked it looong to the opposite flank/wing; we were caught napping time and again and they quickly orchestrated a free man or two after switching.
