Pretty sure that's what I said...
Sure, we could cut 16 players, but we'd be replacing poor-average depth players with other poor-average depth players on two-year contracts.
Dennis, White, Rowe, Jones etc. offer the experienced depth that we need while we develop McKay, Curnow, SOS, Cuningham and whoever we draft this year. It make more sense to keep them on for one year with the option to cut them in 2017 than it does to cut them now and replace them 18yo kids from the dark depths of the draft, who we'd then have to keep for two years.
Year on year contracts for these blokes is where it's at, and then we cull them when they can be replaced with quality.

It's Galucci's first year on a rookie list, you don't pick up rookies to just delist straightaway, they are projects and he has been injured all year. He'll be here next year.
Remember that Jamison and Walker can't have the heavy sticked waved upon them.
They're both contracted for next year but wouldn't be a shock should either, or both, retire.
As long as Sheehan is healthy and not getting paid overs, he'll stay.
The others have questions marks upon them.

I'd take a bet on that.
Looks good but can't throw out all your depth at once...15 changes in back to back years is unheard of.
Of that list I would keep
Buckley - still potential and on fringe of senior team
Tutt - depth
Armfield - depth, leadership for young players
Gallucci - shown a bit...no harm in keeping as the other 3 rookies should go first
Gorringe - will have to see how he goes next few weeks

I'd agree if Sumner and Lamb hadn't cemented spots in the senior line-up so quickly.
Reckon Galucci might have been SOS hedging his bets, considering those two had very little exposed senior form to go off, and in Sumner's case an element of injury-risk.
Which rookies are you alluding to, after Wood?
The only thing that may save Gallucci, is if we don't pick up another goal-sneak.
He hasn't been that good in the games I've seen, at least.

Lets take your names and make a reasonable assessment of options.
Walker - is struggling this year and I suspect that his knees are the reason why. They were shot last year and they weren't going to improve and allow him back to his best this year. He can hardly jump. I suspect that come the end of the season, he will bite the bullet, have a good talk to his doctor and make the decision to hang up the boots and concentrate on raising his boys to be good Carlton supporters and future father/son contenders.
White - is contracted for next year. If we delisted him this year, we would have his salary impacting on our TPP for 2017. He is good solid depth and can play the utility role well for the club. Not as talented as some of his team mates... but he gives his all when he pulls on the jumper.
Jamison - the rumours that came out a couple of weeks ago about a senior Carlton player announcing to the club and the players that they were going to see out the year and then retire, I think, were about Jamison. His last couple of appearances for the club have been less than salubrious and lacked the skill and endeavour that we have seen from him in the past. Also the look on his face as we celebrated the win over Port certainly suggested that he knew that he had played his last game at the senior level. For the remainder of the year, I suspect that he will be playing for the Bullants and mentoring both Weitering and JGM at training.
Dick - A Malthouse special. On paper, he certainly looked to have what we needed to improve our defence with him involved, but he hasn't put it together at the senior level and I really think that he will be struggling to maintain his position on our list. I suspect that we are going to either delist him or try and find a new home for him with one of the clubs in QLD.
Tutt - has talent and speed and should be a lock in our best 22... but his lack of composure with the ball in hand is what is killing his career at the AFL level. He is clearly a cut or two above VFL level, but he stutters at the senior level. I suspect that he has already been earmarked to be delisted come the end of the year... unless something goes seriously wrong and we have to retain his services for another year.
Jaksch - has been cutting it up in the VFL and should have been called up to the seniors last week. He has been thrown all over the place while at the club and I think that there were some unrealistic expectations that he would come in and be Henderson Mk 2. Henderson is a utility KPP while Jaksch is a utility third tall KPP. While people might suggest that they are both KPP, their roles are completely different. Henderson is supposed to take the best forward or the best defender while Jaksch is supposed to take the undersized defender while being athletic enough to take an undersized forward and work off them. I think that he will get another 12 months to really try and get his shit together before we pull the trigger and either trade him or delist him.
Whiley - With his build, he should be one of the premier inside extractors alongside Cripps. His season has been slightly soured by some niggling injuries but I really think that come the end of the year, his time is up.
Jones - The role that he is currently playing in the side allowed Casboult to go one out with his defender and either run him all over the ground and bury him or to out class him in marking contests. He might kick 1-2 goals a game, but thats all that he is there for. He has another year on his contract if things are to be believed and I doubt that we would be getting rid of him before that happens. If nothing else, his being in the side allows the club to develop McKay at a more relaxed pace rather than trying to accelerate his development and try and get him into the side before he is ready.
Wood - I like the way that Wood goes about things, but with the recruiting of Phillips and Gorringe last year, his time at the club is numbered and come the end of the year, he will be gone.
Rowe - If a club came in with a good offer for Rowe, I can see us getting rid of him... but outside of that, I suspect with the retirement of Jamison looming over the club, we will hang on to him for another 12 months unless we get someone like Marchbank into the club.
Gowers - From what Harks has been saying, it's only in the last couple of weeks that he has really started to try and turn it on. He was a speculative rookie pickup in the first place and I suspect that at the end of the year, he will either be traded or delisted.
Foster - Have heard absolutely nothing about his development apart from his injury last year. I also heard that the club is trying to turn him into a defender. I suspect that his name might already be on the delist list for the end of the year.
Armfield - I think that come the end of the year, we might see Armfield retire and get offered a position as development coach at the Bullants as well as a position in the public relations department of the club. For a guy that many wrote off back in the day, he has given us as much, if not more, than some of his more highly rated team mates. Not bad for someone who was the steak knives in the Judd deal... now who was that guy that the weagles took with pick 20?
Smith - There are lots of mixed messages about Smith. He has the talent to succeed, but I think that he was "distracted" last year by all the crap with Yarran and has allowed it to get to him. Unless he can pull his finger out before the end of the year, I suspect highly that he might be steak knives in a deal or just delisted.
Sheehan - Has the talent, but his body hasn't allowed him to get on the track. He is possibly the only one of the irishmen who might get delisted come the end of the year.
Viojo-Rainbow - Might get a further 12 months just to see what he can do.
Simpson - I think that sheik put him here just as a possible retiree. I also suspect that Simpson, like Walker and Armfield, get given the option to retire if he so desires and if he doesn't, I reckon that the club is going to give him another 12 months.
As for these guys, Gibbs, Everitt, Tuohy, Casboult & Graham, I highly suspect that GC17 might come back sniffing around Everitt again and offer up a late second round pick for him. I can't really see any takers for Graham, but once again, we might see a club like Brisbane come sniffing around him. I don't think that he would really want to leave, but if the offer is good enough, we might see him disappear off our list. Gibbs, Tuohy, and Casboult I suspect will be staying around for a bit longer unless the offers for them are unbelievable.
Wouldn't be the first mature aged rookie to be delisted after one year. Would be harsh but it has happened.
We all want Sheenan to succeed.
I actually made that point about Jamo earlier in the thread. Jamo and Walker are there due to the possibility of retirement. Contracts should be honoured.

Would be a huge call for them to give up their last ever payday.
I guess it will come down to injuries and where CFC are sitting on ladder towards end of season before we may see the young ones play a few games.

Mason Cox has better skills and he hadn't seen a football 18 months ago. Sorry but another 12 months of Rowe would see some of us appeal to the Hague.
Keeping the Curnow brothers in mind, it wouldn't shock me if we rookied Gallucci with an eye on the 2016 draft. Future trading means that list managers need to think at least two years ahead at all times.
Yes I don't dispute that, maybe had something to do with culture, coaching, what his role was.
At CFC, as a defender he is horrible isn't he, just coughs the ball up so often. Looks soft down back.
I think the problem is he is simply not a good 1-on-1 footballer.

Harsh.
He looked pretty poor in the NAB Challenge, but has been more than serviceable in the season proper. Plays within his ability, and his limitations are offset by having such an attacking backline around him (Weitering, Plowman, Tuohy, Docherty, Simpson, Byrne).
Would have no issue with him being on our list for another year, but would prefer it was spent mostly in the reserves with the occasional senior appearance when injury necessitated.

Would still pay them out, they just wouldnt be on the list. If theyre injured we may get their salary taken off the cap, if not, its no big deal, we will have plenty of cap space regardless.

First he has to want to come, which i doubt he does (why would you leave Sydney now) and he will cost around pick 5 and $650,000
His younger brother is highly touted in this year's draft and trained with us at one point last year.
