Carlton are 5-5.

Brisbane are playing below what their list is capable of.

Carlton has an older, more experienced list. Carlton rank 10th amongst the 18 clubs in terms of age while Brisbane are ranked 18th. In terms of experience (games played), Carlton rank 12th while Brisbane are ranked 18th. That's not to say Brendan Bolton isn't doing a good job.

2016
Players over 200 games - Carlton: 2. Brisbane: 0
Players 100-199 games - Carlton: 9. Brisbane: 8
Players 50-99 games - Carlton: 7. Brisbane: 10
Less than 50 games - Carlton: 22. Brisbane: 22

Hardwick showed steady improvement in those first four years. Leppa hasn't exactly done that.

The Lions have lost significant age and playing experience with the retirements or departures of Simon Black (322), Jonathan Brown (256), Ash McGrath (214), Jed Adcock (206), Joel Patfull (182), Matt Maguire (170) and Brent Staker (160) amongst others, including many of the older players that Michael Voss recruited at the end of 2009.

Not to mention those that departed before Leppitsch had even coached a game (Polec, Longer, Docherty, Yeo), forching Leppitsch to replace them with even younger players from the draft. Only now are the Lions are starting to get games into them (Gardiner - 33 games, Taylor - 53 games, Cutler - 24 games, Robertson - 22 games)

We matched it with the very best for 3qtrs yesterday. We've improved this year, bar the Collingwood, Port and Melbourne games and have had a pretty tough start to the year fixture wise.
In all fairness, I don't think we're the best this year. While I was impressed with the lion's effort yesterday, they're seriously short of A-Graders and until they can retain their first rounders, they're in for a very tough time.

Not a Joke he's a great coach could see the AFL getting involved and getting Chris to the Lions the same way they did with Roos and Melbourne the need a good coach Ratten wouldn't cut it up there can't see him being a crowd favorite the Lions need a draw card as a coach not someone no one in Queensland has heard of pretty much why we hired Leppitsch in the first place
Doubt supporters will care who they appoint even if no one in QLD has heard of them if they start winning under them.

The AFL should step in and help them with facilities, and other off field expenses. Brisbane's problem isn't that they haven't drafted good talent - they have. But their problem is retaining that talent, and keeping it happy. Throwing a priority pick at Brisbane would be essentially pointless. The AFL won't do that. Brisbane needs to get their environment right. It needs to create an environment in which players want to be in. If this was done earlier, Yeo, Docherty, and Polec, all would still be at the club. Brisbane wouldn't be the basket case they are today.

Great. Another Robin Hood tax on the financial clubs.

What tax are you talking about? He just said the AFL should help us with facilities which I tend to agree with.

Nothing against you getting help at all, but the AFL pass it straight onto the rich clubs. A couple of years ago Freo wrote to all members saying our membership was going up to cover the additional Robin Hood tax that the Afl had slapped on us. I already pay over $3.5k for a family membership...

As I say, absolutely nothing against your club getting a leg-up.

What? The reason your memberships are so high are because of the limited amount and the fact you aren't owned by the AFL. That's your clubs decision. The rich clubs benefit from the equalisation fund too so I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I would rather be a club who didn't need it as much but there is always rich and poor clubs.

How does that compare to the Western Bulldogs?

Last week's team (I think pretty similar this week with Boyd and Suckling plus 3 sub 50 gamers in):

200+: 2
100-200: 2
50-100: 8
0-50: 10

Brisbane seeem to have a lot of excuses but you can't argue they are getting the most out of the list they do have.

Worth considering that of all the favourite sons being discussed here, Worsfold was the only one who cut his chops at a different club before coming back.
Not really - he agreed to help out because a close mate was murdered. He wasn't there to improve his skills and learn new systems. It wasn't a learning mission at all.

What is being referred to is Worfolds time at Carlton in the late 90s early 2000s.

I think the AFL needs to do a lot more to help the lions. On top of building new facilities, the need to put funds into the coaching and development departments.

Leppitch does not seem to be the right coach to build a club around. His demeanour is very ordinary and acts like he has no solution when the team gets pummelled. Problem is he is probably the lowest paid coach in the league. The AFL need to get someone there and guarantee that person will have the coaching department fully funded to make it an attractive gig.

Also, apart from Beams, let's be honest. The mature recruits they have picked up who have been willing to go there are not afl standard. At best they may be in the bottom 5 of each club. A new coach and a proper complete rebuild is required. If guys like Rich can't improve then he should be gone. No use holding on to guys like this.
