And a lot of people confuse confidence with arrogance as well.
Arrogance is an extreme form of over confidence.

They're virtually one and the same.

My wife watches AFL 360 on Mondays nights to watch Chris Scott - the first year she's actually taken much notice of what he's said - and in her own words, 'he looks smug and speaks with arrogance'. I've always thought this to be the case... he has an arrogant demeanor.

Not surprising then that the team plays in much the same manner.

Completely smug and arrogant and who can forget quotes like 'mission accomplished' and that the 2013 cats were more professional and would beat the lions 2001-2004 every day of the week ... His pr style does nothing for me, no passion - just a robot with lots of well considered big words and pc statements... Give us a bit of passion and heart bomber Thompson style ... And honesty ...HONESTY .. How I miss bomber

No, and yes.

Only way to know would be to meet the man, spend time with him, get to know him.

But none of us have done that hey?
Absolutely not. One has to only listen to him speak to form an opinion.

jesus......if a few more blokes were having as much of a dip as Jimmy in recent weeks, I doubt we'd be looking down the barrel of 3 straight losses

Nope, no issue with Jimmy's endeavour.

He might be a little older and a bit slower, but there's no doubt about his courage, intent and effort.

Yes, one can do that, but then it's still a judgement, and one not necessarily based on fact of knowledge.

It's just a collection of assumptions.
Which is why I said 'he comes across as arrogant'

And I'm pretty happy to make that judgement.

One of our best again yesterday. He must be frustrated that the last 2 weeks he has hardly had any help.

So many guys in our team need to see how Jimmy goes about it.

why isn't it possible to argue from a point of comparison or perspective ... Does Chris Scott appear more arrogant than other coaches such as dima Hardwick, Adam Simpson or ken hinkley... I would argue yes...

Maybe I can start a running tally:

When we win

- Simon Lloyd has made a massive difference
- Dangerfield is carrying us
- Anyone could coach this team
- *crickets chirping/tumbleweeds/awkward coughs*

When we lose

- Scott shouldn't have picked Player A over Player B
- No Plan B
- 'Mission Accomplished'
- Smug and arrogant
- Remember when Scott didn't pick West in that Qualifying final??

Feel free to add. We can save some internet here guys. :D

Just want to point out one small thing I noticed Sunday, , that is what I think is systematic in the team at the minute, and in isolation very minor, but collectively it s hurting us
At the Carlton kick ins, and I was very close to the play (front row, level 1 aisle 10) at least 3-4 times I heard Geelong blokes screaming at Dangerfield to get closer to his opponent at the kick ins, and on each occasion he ignored his team mates and let his opponent get a cheap mark, and run the ball out of the defensive 50 with ease. The old bloke sitting behind me actually stood up and shouted at him to listen to his mates and to stop being so selfish.
As I said a very minor thing, but if blokes are ignoring each other on other parts of the ground, and not working hard enough for each other, then it goes part of the way to explain why Carlton was winning so much space and freedom to run

Agreed!

I've never said you can't.

In fact, if you were to look back over my posting history, I think you'll find I've always encouraged a healthy, respectful exchange of views.

And like I said, he may appear to be arrogant, but it doesn't mean that he IS.

That just never happened .

When we win
We were too good for the opposition

When we lose
The opposition were too good for us

Interesting observation.

There were a couple of others, immediately after they game, who said they saw clear disharmony on the field.

That's a worry.

She must have watched a different show to what I've seen.

I only see Buckley answering questions each week :D

I'm not saying I saw any signs of disharmony amongst the players, but I know what I heard, and I know what i observed, and the fact of the matter is, on a number of occasions Dangerfield allowed Carlton to take cheap marks in the defensive 50 and run the ball out without any pressure.
Now I get Dangerfield is a match winner, and very explosive going towards goal, but when he doesnt have the ball and he's standing across half back, he has to work harder. He didn't Sunday!
