I think it was halfway through 2006, we were miles clear on top of the ladder, huge percentage, destroyed Geelong and Mark Thompson said we were basically playing a different game.

Swans assistant coach Ross Lyon travelled to Adelaide on Sunday to watch the Crows' 92-point victory over Geelong. The magnitude of that result only added to their growing aura of invincibility. Geelong coach Mark Thompson said the Crows were the best team in the competition "by a mile", while newspaper reports used terms such as "the Adelaide Androids" and "NASA-inspired domination" to describe their well-drilled game plan and strong-bodied players.

Adelaide have kicked 12 goals more than the next side GWS 1362 to 1290 . But our defence has conceded most of top 8 sides next Hawks 1065 to 1038

Adelaide have been one of the most interesting sides all season, but in dispatching the Giants last week and the Eagles away this week, and holding both opponents to reasonably low scores, they've looked less like "one-dimensional outlier" and more like "premiership material."

If it were a year or two ago, you'd say the Crows were on target to lose a Grand Final. But in 2016 we're still waiting for a flag favourite to emerge, and Adelaide look pretty good to me.

There's a long way to go, of course, but I'll be surprised if the Crows don't go deep.

As for the other contenders... well, it's pretty simple this week: the winners all had a good week and the losers didn't. No honourable losses or shameful wins, not among the top teams. So the Hawks showed some of the old firepower against Essendon, the Bulldogs secured four points away against Port, and the Cats and Giants both won by a lot against good opposition (North, Sydney).

In a season this tight, no-one can afford to drop a game. But that's especially true for Port Adelaide, who need a fair bit to go right if they're to squeeze into the finals, and fell a little short against the Dogs.

It was also a bad result for the Eagles, who fell back to the pack with the loss at home to the Crows.

Ladder predictor! Look, let's be honest: We might as well put eight names in a hat and order them at random. There's nothing between them. But here it is:

Flagpole! The Giants move to a clear 4th but the Crows still fly highest.

Edit: Added Melbourne v Collingwood! They count too.

I might be reading this wrong but are you saying Geelong got a home State game against North Melbourne at their home ground :drunk:
Right! I'll stop doing that when the Cats stop overperforming in their home games in Melbourne.

This has been going on for more than a decade, but look at this year alone:

GEELONG HOME GAMES IN MELBOURNE:
Def. Hawthorn @ MCG
Def. North Melbourne @ Docklands

GEELONG AWAY GAMES IN MELBOURNE:
Def. Essendon @ MCG
Lost to Collingwood @ MCG
Lost to Carlton @ Docklands

Why Geelong (in particular) consistently perform better in their home games at the exact same ground, I can't say. But they do.

I'm not having a go but I would be interested to see the data on that, that Geelong performs better in home matches in Melbourne than away matches.

For instance last year Geelong won its away game vs Collingwood at the G but got blown out in the home match at the same ground.

Weve been on an upward trend ever since we beat you guys.

Yeah good side, didnt mean overrated in general

Just think this weeks win lifted them more than it should have

But time will tell

I think he's right, though. There's no causal link - it's just one of those statistical anomalies.

Beating WC at home fairly comfortably will do that
