Catscan for all player contracts.... - well as much as we know about them.....:D

The GFC link is the article Pure_Ownage was referring to.

Go Cqtters

I think we will take 3 picks (our 2nd and 3rd and brisbanes 3rd) plus elevate ruggles and i think we will only have 38 or 39 on the list-saves cap and allows us to have 2 extra guys on 1 year deals, means we can rookie some of our vfl guys and have the flexibility to cut them in a stronger draft next year if they dont work out.

I am also not sure whether lucey can stay as a cat b rookie for a 3rd year or whether he has to go on the normal rookie list.

From memory Blitz remained a Category B for three years, so no problem there.

I cannot see how we can get more than a second round pick if we are trading out players looking for more game time (there are several in that category). A first rounder would be great but unlikely. There are always proposals for bundling up 2-3 fringe players and getting a good pick, but it never seems to happen; almost every trade is a single player for a single pick.

I hope we just get draftees. Our trading in 2015 has had brilliant outcomes, but I can't help thinking we might have had some internal disappointment, inevitable when ypung players look forward to three or four spots being opened up by the forced departures, only to see them filled by ready-made imports before preseason even starts. The payoff is certainly worth it to get Danger, Smith and Henderson (who in a sense is here a year early, as the Lonergan replacement), but if it becomes the norm then it is a bit dispiriting. The player reports on the club website pump up some blokes as being likely to get some game time in the ones, but in fact there are no obvious spots for them

In draft terms, while it made sense to go for KPPs last year (because the ready mades allow us to draft for development, not need), and a key back and ruckmen were obvious priorities, Kolo settling in and Gardner looking promising, along with Smith and Stanley both staying on their feet, mean that a young tall forward might be our most likely draft target. That, along with a couple of Wells' usual 188-190 utility types.

I don't know how they are going to work it, but I'll bet they've had a long-term plan for getting back into this year's draft with some reasonable picks; they won't want a 2-year hiatus in the list, given the very low statistical probability that any of last year's picks will succeed.

Its interesting. Danger and hendo were definitely great gets for 1st rounders and the fact the top 4 race is so wide open vindicates this-its a year where a team like us could win it so we are right to have a crack.

But you are correct in that we dont want 2 years in a row of all late picks and also they would know that if we dont trade a 1st rounder in this year we cant trade one out until 2019,so i assume they have a plan to try and get some decent draft picks this year.

Being pedantic here I know... not necessarily so? .. 2 in 4 years... 2 in one year..none in 3 ? Wouldn't it depend on what we decide to trade out for it?
If a player or FA next year go's for a R1... if we trade our 2018 Future for an extra 2017.. ?

In regards to the draft last year and this... if we forget the pick number that were used ..do our young players picked have enough potential to get 2-3 AFL players.. say in total 200 plus games from each of the 2015,2016 drafts? If so , would the drafts be really "empty years" because of the trade out?
On average.. would we expect more than that? The numbers of successful picks seem to vary each year, the games played do as well. I guess to be accurate.. one would have to add games played by traded in players.

Not sure about the rules on rumours or if this is even the right thread but a mate that knows kerstens mum is saying he's a chance to move home next year, possibly to freo. Reckons he isn't getting offered enough. Mind you I don't even know if he's coming out of contract etc, just what I've been told.

The home factor is always a possibility I guess, but we'd want something decent in return.

If he is off contract we have little leverage.

It would be just like Christensen.

If the rumour is true, and the club catches wind of it, they'd be better off trading him while Kersten is still under contract as we can drive a better deal.

But with all due respect to the poster who wrote it - I always take rumours that begin with things like "a mate that knows Kersten's mum" with a pinch of salt.

But.... but...... but....... this is Bigfooty!!!!!!

What would you expect we'd ask for in that hypothetical situation Rabbi?

We tend not to ask for much at all down here.
I would prefer that we keep him as Geelong never seems to play hard ball on these issues.

Agreed.

But surely they'd put their foot down harder if it came to this. Fair investment in him, and they don't come along every day.

Not to mention that we have no other developing medium tall forwards on the list.
