Why would they want to keep him around for an extra year if they know he's going? doubt they'd back themselves in to change his mind or necessarily even want him to. New coach is going to want a clean slate rather than the inconsistency that having and then losing rockliff would bring.

You know what is going to go in our favour regarding Grigg, CEY and Otten - the fact that Kerridge and Wright have performed well.

Perhaps other clubs will take a good look at our fringe players above others and be prepared to offer a little something.

It's funny to think isn't it, we could have 3 extra first round picks on our list as opposed to what we do have if it wasn't for how we handled Tippet.

That being said I think he's definitely still worth more than that trade we got offered. We've seen how critical he is to Sydney this year.

Our first + CEY would be a very good deal for us. I think if we sweetened the pot with another player (Otten maybe as has been suggested) I'd like to see us get a late pick back as steak knives in the hope our recruiters can work some magic with it and to ensure we aren't stuck keeping guys (thommo) on our list next year just because we don't have the picks to fill their spots.

If we were practicing elite standards AND had this gameplan we'd be top 2

Wayne's-World makes a good point that Rockliff is a free agent next year. I've forgotten this in my thinking on what a fair trade is. Our first plus CEY still feels slightly unders but not far off given free agency status next year.

We had a much more traditional forward set up that I believe was superior to what we're trying to do now in big games.

Elite standards doesn't mean you absolutely never have a down week, unless you're arguing Hawthorn also have shit standards because they also lost to West Coast the week before us.

I think club has made a decision that it's in the best interest of both parties that he finds a fresh start

IMO we would need to offer up our first round pick which could be around pick 18 and a Otten or CEY who would make an immediate playing impact
