Would be a bit shattered with Eli. I would understand, so probably talking through my 5 year old and breaking the news to him! I do think he can be a player. Hopefully I can sell it to my boy on the back of it's great for Eli and he'll still be able to watch him play. 10, Eli and Lee for pick 2?

(joking)
Eli just wants further opportunities. So we will see how it works out. Be a decent wingman for someone like Carlton as he has good footskills

It was interesting to hear someone mention (many pages back) that Trout might see Laverde playing off half back or through the middle of the ground.

I wonder if the success of Roo playing as a tall wingman this year clunking marks around the ground and floating forward to keep our forwardline dangerous during rotations (bruce to ruck, mccartin/membrey to bench) has made that a position the club wants to keep long term.

Don't know if he is the man for it and I doubt anyone could do the role half as well as Roo but it will be interesting to see if the club tries to build a player up to play that kind of role.

The biggest issue with Laverde is his lack of pace, I would prefer him as a true big on baller rotating forward with Acres. Wingmen need a bit of speed IMO. He is a bit like Brendan Goddard in size and speed and skills so something similar to him maybe?

We still have to draft a few as well, so am thinking our future picks will come into play.

Otherwise Longer swap plus this year's 3rd coming back.

Just don't want to send Billy to a club that will be up there at the same time as us such as Dogs.

Wonder if WCE would look at Pierce?

Even before he went to Essendon I always thought of James Hird when I watched Laverde, tallish, strong and can play as a sweeper down back, through the midfield or as a dangerous third tall.
The kid has some talent.

GWS first is pick 8. I assume you mean GWS pick 17 or 18? But agree that would make sense.
Essentially we trade off a pick 10 for a pick 20 and a pick 30. about right.
Thats exactly what i mean. Whats Gws first regular pick 15-16 that goes to ess for Lavarde. Maybe we can even ask for a 3rd rounder back from them 15s a litte high for Lavarde. But i believe something like this will happen. Giants will be happy with that trade, all parties happy.

Hopefully just in the football ability sense and not in the immoral flog sense :P

Hird? Did he major in Chemistry as well?

Laugh now but the Dons are going to clean up from their cheating. The AFL didn't punish them and has done all they can to restock their bank accounts.

I know you say James Hird, but gee that sounds a lot like Brendan Goddard circa 2009-11.

Think we're very prematurely jumping the gun on Laverde, hearing he's committed to the bombers
So he has now committed to both clubs? He will be very busy on weekends next season

So they get pick 1 this year, I'd hardly say they've cleaned up.
You look at their list, and it's hard to see them improving to the point of contention, even with the inclusion of Heppell, Hurley and Hooker. The rest of the returning cheats are either past it, or GOPs at best who in reality may have their spot taken by someone who put their hand up this year.
The only bombers players I'd have on our list as it stands:
Hurley
Heppell
Hooker
Parish
Francis
Zac Merrett
Daniher
Goddard (Maybe)

The rest of their list is putrid. Thankfully, they're still in for a few years of pain.

If Templeton pulls in a second rounder, and Pierce brings in a second rounder it kind of offsets any trade losses due to Lee and Murdoch not coming on. It probably also speaks to why we shouldn't put Dal Santo back on the list, as there are opportunities to moneyball rookie picks.

I agree that the club is doing this (wingman / swingman), but I think the guy to fill this role is Bruce, he has the size and endurance to do it. He has good skills for his size too (his somewhat slippery hands this year notwithstanding).

Carlisle will pinch hit in the ruck next year imo, Bruce was only doing it this year cos we had no other option (and the last couple of games made it pretty clear that Brucey really didn't want to be doing it).

I have heard that this song has been in Laverde's head for the past week or so;

Whether or not he it is because he is weighing up staying at Essendon or he really likes 'Stranger Things' remains to be seen though.

Surely Longer is the one player on our list with a high enough currency at the moment that we are quite willing to lose.
Another year in the VFL behind Hickey could see all of that currency vanish.
Pierce is too young and raw to draw too much from other clubs I would think.
