One thing is for certain: the club now sees ourselves as a serious player in the trade market.

Historically we never would have had the guts to stand up alongside the big boys and have and voice. Hell, that's why we got so many scraps off the table of the Blues etc back in the day.

Even if we don't land laverde or marchbank etc, I'm loving that we are having and go- and making a bloody attractive proposition at that.

Exciting times to be a sainter!

I don't agree.
Hamil was a big trade.
Gehrig.
Fergus Watts was the Tom Boyd of the day.
We just stopped for a while when our cap maxed out.
Oh and Andrew Lovett??

Big trades arent always good trades, and you can't do them year after year.
Little trades like Schnieder/Dempster, Gardiner, king, Bruce, can be just as good if not better.

I was told eating apple seeds would make an apple tree grow in my stomach, yet here we are.
You've got an apple tree growing out of your stomach?!? Damn it man, get to hospital, QUICK!

Bruce in a Westhoff role?

Don't mind it myself. Think he could do it really well.

We would still have McCartin, Membrey, Roo (for 1-2 more years rotating through the forward line). Long term we have Carlisle and Goddard that can swing forward.

I get that he kicked 50+ goals a couple of years ago, which is awesome but he could be just as valuable in the Westhoff type role. Not sure Bruce will ever be a 75+ goal forward. If we had that kind of goal kicking potential I would say absolutely not. If he could be a 30+ goals in more of a roaming role that would be awesome.

Bruce in a Westhoff role?

Yep, hopefully a bit more consistent as a player though ;)

Pretty much what saintbill said. Paddy's our deep pack marking target. Members good on the lead, Mav admittedly not very tall but a good overhead mark. Acres and Laverde (don't have any knowledge but I think it will get done) and Billings to rotate through, with of course Brucey coming forward as well. Gresj and Lonie snapping at the heels (although Lonie needs a good year in 2017).

It was interesting to hear someone mention (many pages back) that Trout might see Laverde playing off half back or through the middle of the ground.

I wonder if the success of Roo playing as a tall wingman this year clunking marks around the ground and floating forward to keep our forwardline dangerous during rotations (bruce to ruck, mccartin/membrey to bench) has made that a position the club wants to keep long term.

Don't know if he is the man for it and I doubt anyone could do the role half as well as Roo but it will be interesting to see if the club tries to build a player up to play that kind of role.
Tom Lamb WCE has the athletiism for the role but not sure his head is straight .

Just read most of the time and don't post in here often, but I disagree completely. The only role I can see Bruce ever playing and being a competent afl player in is close to goal.

I like Josh, but from what I've seen he'd have to go close to being the worst field kick in the afl. The ball is lucky to hit his foot sometimes. And unfortunately his hand balling isn't much better. Often, if he's playing up the ground or in the ruck, he's the one to end the handball chain with a handball to someone's feet or behind them.

Thankfully he has great athleticism, dukes like buckets leowe (until this year) and a dead eye set shot (shows what a bit of practice goalkicking can achieve). Perfectly suited to a deep forward role where most of the time when he gets it he's in goal scoring range. Any other position and I'd have my heart in my mouth whenever he went near it.

I think paddy will develop into that player that pushes up the ground as he builds his tank. His kicking inside 50 oozes class. I see paddy at CHF and Bruce at FF in the long term.

Just think of our 04 forward line. Gehrig = paddy, Roo = Bruce, hammer = Membrey

Milne Guerra = Mav lonie sincs billings
