All this talk of Petrie and Ballantine i feel like we are going after someone else that isn't being mentioned and it is all a smokescreen.

I am simply praying that these bullshits cannot be true.

I think the biggest issue with that is that it robs the Suns of a lot of points in this year's draft which they'll need to match bids on Bowes and Scheer. No idea what their academy situation is next year but if there isn't a Bowes equivalent coming through then they'd probably rather a similar sort of pick in this year's draft. Maybe trade our 2017 first for one of GWS's picks at 15/16, then give that to Gold Coast?

Points are king for the northern sides and that deal sees them losing about 300 points overall, so I think we'd have to either throw in pick 48 or let them keep 40 to even it up a bit.

The AFL have also modified the points thing so the northern clubs can't use high draft picks to trade down for a bucket of low picks for the points - something about only having the number of picks that you have spots available on your list. Not entirely certain how it works but there won't be as much scope to swap picks as there was last year

WCE trade: 2017 1st rounder
GWS trade: Pick 15

(We'd be banking on making a prelim next year, GWS banking on us doing worse than that)

WCE trade: Pick 12, pick 15, pick 30 (3,009 points)
GC trade: Pick 4, pick 21 (2,902 points)

Leaves us with picks 4 (SPS/Brodie), 21 (SPP?) and 48 which is hopefully enough to match a bid on Waterman.

But no first-rounder next year.

It's clear to me that we are not going to get the A Grade talent we need through trade . We are getting B graders and role players only .
We are also not getting high enough up the draft to get elite talent .

Melbourne traded up to pick 4 last year with gold coast for future picks .

This year it seems likely that brisbane will bid on Bowes before gold coasts pick 4 so they may be willing to trade it .

What would people think about trying to trade up to pick 4 ?

top 4 looking like
1 and 2 mcgrath / mcluggage
3 and 4 Brodie / SPS .

Make a trade of something like 12 + 30 + future 1st

For 4 + 21 + GC 3rd ( 40ish)

Gets us one elite talent in SPS or brodie (brodie is exactly what we need ) + SPP or Rotham and an extra early 3rd to play with .

I know the thought of not having a first next year sucks but fixing our midfield deficiency now whilst we have our stars is more important imo

TBH i dont think this is the draft for elite talents. All of brodie, mcgrath, mcluggage and sps have question marks over their game and how it will translate to afl. However the big thing is that there is a lot of depth of talent in this draft pool and we could find AFL quality players all the way deep into the rookie draft. I would be much more inclined to look at trading this years first and next years first for gold coasts 21,22,24 and 27. Hopefully pick up either 20 or 28 from brisbane for Emac and go into this draft with 6 second round picks. Guys like rotham, spp, sharenberg, simpkin, drew, bolton, ryan should all be on the board for these picks as well as hopefully waterman with our third rounder and jeremy goddard with our fourth. Even guys like clarke, fisher, galluci have their reasons and points to being drafted in the first half of the second round.

If we trade next year's first rounder and give up the prospect of bringing in Hogan, that means there'll be a talented key forward at one of the other clubs in 2018 and beyond. Who cares whether that's Freo, Melbourne or Hawthorn (since they seem to get everyone)?

Not as convinced on the benefits of trading Easy but the rest of the post makes sense - it does seem that there is a higher number of good players in this draft but the pointy end isn't as good as other years. On that basis I'm a fan of using our first round pick to get more picks in the top 30 rather than using it in combination with something else to get a sole pick in the top 5 or 10

We could end up with a top 10 pick next year if things don't go well so I'd be thinking long and hard before trading that out

In this instance we should be worried what Freo do, certainly if it means giving them a free run at one of the most talented young forwards to play.

We've flagged our interest in Hogan, if he decides to come back it might then cost us something of much more importance if we don't have draft picks to deal with.

I've watched Tom at East Perth a lot.
Just my opinion, but to me he seems really hard on himself and if he makes an error he drops his head. I've sat behind the interchange bench and senior players like Wulffy and Johnson were often patting him on the back and talking to him to help him. I think he needs some help to believe in himself and to acknowledge that a mistake is not the end of the world.
I hope he stays and proves his doubters wrong.

I remember earlier in the season he had a good 2-3 weeks i think 5 goals one week and i was thinking it would be good to give him a taste of the big time especially when there was a few guys struggling, but they didnt maybe he dropped his bundle, character building i guess

There is serious talk that Mitchell will leave the Swans regardless of the result on the weekend. He is probably the only A grader available as most of the others on the market have signalled their intention to not go west. We need to go seriously hard when these opportunities come up but I don't hear anything coming out of the club that we are interested. Getting pretty sick of this conservative crap from out mob.

So would you like the negotiation plans to be published by the club so that fans are kept abreast of developments?
