Over the all the talk about trading darling, people are really only focusing on his couple of bad games. On a whole he did have a pretty good year and he's still young and getting better.
Lobb Is who we need this off season, im sure all the talk about hogan is to just remind fremantle their not the only ones chasing the WA boys and will hopefully make things easier getting lobb.

Sydney put through a ridiculous 9-year deal for Franklin.

Geelong got lucky because Dangerfield wanted to move home.

Which guns have Hawthorn bought? Other than Burgoyne, most of the guys they've brought in have been role-player types at their old clubs.
Burgoynes knees were also a massive problem for him - so much so that many people thought he may be cooked

Hawthorn were able to get his knees right and got him back to his best - they also played him off half back mainly with bursts only through the midfield where he played almost exclusively for Port so that he didn't need to train as much to maintain a big tank. It could well have blown up in their face but for the medicos - it's a major part of why JOM chose Hawthorn

Trust me WC have been more active than people realize.

Jumping on a plane every 2nd week is a very big issue in an increasingly professional workplace

I know it may be going over old ground, but could the answer be that we propose ways to the AFL that mean we dont have to fly every two weeks?

I called 6PR and my idea didn't gain any traction as sometime on the radio they only want to talk about todays topic (can't blame them).

But how about playing a fortnight away and a fortnight at home? With good fixturing both freo and WCE could be be away for 8-10 days play 2 games, then be home for two games. All of of a sudden we half our flying (or at least reduce it significantly).

Attracting players may be a bit easier if we fly 6 or 7 times instead of 12 or 13.

Not as convinced on the benefits of trading Easy but the rest of the post makes sense - it does seem that there is a higher number of good players in this draft but the pointy end isn't as good as other years. On that basis I'm a fan of using our first round pick to get more picks in the top 30 rather than using it in combination with something else to get a sole pick in the top 5 or 10

We could end up with a top 10 pick next year if things don't go well so I'd be thinking long and hard before trading that out
That^^, No Nata for the vast majority next year.

No disrespect - but how would you know ?
And no disrespect to you Bond however if it were the case we'd be the only club in the AFL that doesn't let our targets be know or at least have some sort of leak. If we have indeed been targeting big names with no success, have we thought that it may be a wise move to let our targets be known at an earlier stage or perhaps make it actively known? Seems to work better for the majority of the other clubs.

You'd be trading off the air mileage for a heap of extra nights in hotels away from the players' homes and the club's facilities.

Brisbane tried it once, scheduling back to back games vs us and Freo and staying in Perth for the week. I assume it didn't go well because they never tried it again.

So that was you standing outside my bedroom window last night

Ok, tell us how you'd go about getting two A grade mids and one of Hogan or Lobb assuming the players involved are happy to move to WA

Magic. That will do.

Why would you think they want brisbane to do well
What crap.
AFL wants the big Melb clubs to do well.
AFL wants the expansion teams to do well.
AFL wants Sydney & Brisbane to do well.
AFL wants the struggling Vic teams to do well.

They want everyone to do well except the WCE, right?

1/..that was me and Ginnas outside your room last night

2/..A grade mids...cut our shit and buy them.
HOGAN/LOBB...cut our shit and buy them.

..easy .

Our problem is we worry too much about how we are viewed in a corporate sense instead of making tough decisions that are motivated by one goal....WINNING!

Again. This isn't EPL. You cannot buy players.

What we need is chartered flights but given we have to pay wafc and pay off stadium, that is increasingly unlikely.

The thing that has disconcerted me the most this off season has nothing to do with any obvious (or unobvious) trade targets. It'd be the fact that we don't seem to be going hard at a new senior assistant coach to step in to Rawlings position (or Pikes old one). Now I'm sure we're doing our due diligence and canvassing all options but I feel this is one of the most important moves of our entire off season. I'd love the club to aggressively pursue and lock someone highly regarded soon. Or else we could miss the boat and end up with another untried ex North player or Jamie Graham stepping into a new position like Cox last year. There are numerous assistant positions available this off season, especially at Richmond. I feel we should move on this quickly and assertively.

Would make a huge difference in recovery.

Jack Grimes worth a shot on rookie list?

When 6PR interviewed Vozzo a week or so ago he was in Melbourne and said that among other things they were talking to prospective coaches

I've watched Tom at East Perth a lot.
Just my opinion, but to me he seems really hard on himself and if he makes an error he drops his head. I've sat behind the interchange bench and senior players like Wulffy and Johnson were often patting him on the back and talking to him to help him. I think he needs some help to believe in himself and to acknowledge that a mistake is not the end of the world.
I hope he stays and proves his doubters wrong.
Wish I could like this post TWICE

Maybe also an nba type fixturing, ie. Play the teams from the same state around the same time period. If you could get the recovery right is there any reason why you couldn't stay in the same city for multiple weeks? Would be a lot simpler that flying back and forth. Playing a melbourne team then flying back to perth then melbourne again the next week seems ridiculous when you could spend a couple of weeks in Melbourne, Sydney, etc. The fixturing people have a job for a reason, surely they could think it through and make it work somehow

Figured it would be happening. Just a lack of any news or coverage on the subject had me concerned.

Syd=Franklin...yes there was COLA
Syd=Tippett....yes there was COLA
GC=Ablett
Carlton=Judd
Pies=Treloar
Gee=Dangerfield

Just a few purchased players
The last three all wanted to go home

Which players should we be "purchasing" then?

Judd and Treloar are the only real trades, all the others are unique situations or Free Agents.
And half of the players returned to their home state.

Carlton had to trade pick 3, Josh Kennedy and pick 20 for Judd.

Collingwood had to give up pick 7, pick 60 and pick 7 this year for Treloar + pick 32

So they didn't just "buy" them, they had to give up a hell of a lot to get them.

Hypothetically let say that Mitchell is open to coming west.

Just a few question for you Bond;

Would you rather go into the draft with our 1st pick or use it to get Mitchell (should he be open to coming west)?
What do you estimate Mitchells value at?

Also, are we interested in getting more 2nd round picks in this years draft?
Either via trading future selections or perhaps someone like Masten who would have value to a club like GC.
Given the depth/evenness of this years draft, one would think it a prudent move perhaps.

Geez Pies gave up a shitload for Treloar
