Is that from inside info? I was under the impression that the only reason he wants to go is cash. If that is the case, Sydney may decide to find some more for him - eg. let someone else go. Sam Reid is supposedly on pretty big cash and would appear expendable.

It's a culmination of a few things. Majority of it is cash, yes, but there is a part of being higher up in the midfield chain.
Sydney are very tight on their cap which is understandable. They have a lot of quality, and some very very good young kids who will command more money very shortly. They've got the most depth in the league regarding midfielders with daylight second. If there's any team that can cover the loss of a contested pig like Mitchell its the Swans.

Being told you'll be top dog in a midfield (or close to it), as well as receiving the wage should not be underestimated.

Sydney will come out of this quite well imo.

FWIW, if Swans want to keep Mitchell they will find the money, it was only a fringe player's worth apart when negotiations were put on hold mid year, no way we lose Mitchell for a fringe player being moved on. If the swans have a plan that has Mitchell as expendable then he will go, but he won't go for way unders. Too many other attractive teams with better picks would be into him.

A player requests a trade from said club to preferred destination for many reasons.
If current club does not facilitate preferred destination then they risk getting nothing as said player end's up in the draft.
Either Sydney find the money or they risk getting no compensation unless player agrees to go to another club.

Agree completely bud. Where I was going with the top dog in the midfield, is its very clear to him Mills and Heeney will be spending more and more time in the midfield and it's not as if Parker, Hanners, JPK and Jack are running around with Zimmer frames.

You'll be handsomely compensated with 17 other clubs more than happy to find a home for him that's for sure.

I am as close to being absolutely positive Sydney won't attempt to keep him as I can at this stage, but stranger things have happened I guess.

Harley didn't seem to confident when talking about him and after the granny he didn't seem to upset and when he kicked the 2 goals i personally noticed that the players didn't get around him as much.

But looking at the lists of the rest of the comp, pretty much every one needs one or more quality inside mids. If Tom is willing to be flexible about which club he goes to, then we should get a good little bidding war going.

If he follows the recent trend of naming a preferred club, we could well get screwed on his true value.

I think it's possibly the most interesting story of the trade period (so far), as it could go any way. He could stay, he could go for a big payday in a good trade, he could nominate a club and we get a lesser value, or he could nominate Hawks, and watching how they generate the trade currency for him and JOM will be fascinating.

I think saints are going to go hard and fast for him. They have the cash. The dogs have given them the blueprint that success can be quicker then you think and, the have been linked to Rockliff for 12 months only not so much anymore. Saints have already said they will be players in this years draft and Mitchell seems like a younger version of Rockliff with none of the negativity surrounding him...

Yeah his trade will be fascinating for sure. I'm hoping he's convinced by our recruiting path with hopefully getting JOM in and he thinks they could partner up well for 8-10 years!

They have the most money in the cap & have a heap of high picks & are in desperate need of ready to go players.
They will part with a significantly better pick than Hawks & Tom would command 700-800K there. Hawks will not pay more than 500K as long as they have 3 & 4 time p'ship players there that are paid less.
If cyril is on 450k as we are led to believe, how does Tom & JOM get 600k. That's insulting.

Why wouldn't Swans want a similar deal to Treloar? i.e. Hawthorn's 2016 and 2017 first picks for Mitchell and Swan's 2016 2nd rounder? Treloar was better, but the two picks involved were top 10 whereas Hawthorn's is #14 and likely to be similar range (or worse) next year.

Treloar was a top 30 player at 21 Mitchell could barely get a game at the same age.

They aren't comparable.

Doubt Swans would be interested in paying some of their salaries if traded, and I doubt any club would match their salaries.

Because those two are key position players of which we don't have great depth. Mitchell is an inside mid of which we have a dozen.
