Lyons can play. Hrovat can play.

Build the depth IMO. Leadership density.
I'm not against recruiting Lyons. What I am against is him being part of a 10 pick upgrade on one of our best 3 players. Nick Graham can have some pretty handy fantasy point games as well, doesn't mean he is worth much in a trade. A Lyons type player is easily obtainable, a Gibbs like player is not (not even with pick 15, after academy selections).

Bolton made mention of how Gibbs and Cripps desperately need support through the midfield and how we need more mids. I just think that proposed trade sounds like bs (I hope).

You could say the same about us and Touhy but our rationale is obviously aimed at the bigger picture. Adelaide have struggled in the middle so if Lyons is indeed a good player, why wouldn't they just keep him?

He's been offered 175K as a best 22 player in a top 8 side.

That's nowhere near the 300K Tuohy has been offered.

We gave Casboult 300K for crying out loud

Has anyone considered that releasing Gibbs may also be a salary dump to pry some guns out of GWS?

Would it ease people's minds if we say turn Gibbs $600,000 per season contract and Tuohy's $400,000 per season contract into a play for Tomlinson, Steele, Corr, Marchbank and Pickett?
No.

We are not tight on salary

Then why doesn't your club value him?
If we didn't value him he probably wouldn't be worth trading.

If you didn't value him, you wouldn't sign him. Which you haven't.
It only means we think we can get more by packaging him with a pick. He was easily best 22 this year for us.

And I'm not saying you should take the rumoured deal - it favours us a bit too much for it to be a reality. But it's an ok starting point and Lyons would walk into your side as he did ours.

Too many inside mids already (Sloane, Crouches, etc.) and we realise u have to trade something decent to get something decent. I assume anyway, most Crows supporters are happy to keep him.
Gibbs had more clearances than Lyons, but the crows want to bring Gibbs in? Sort of counters your point.

Cripps had more clearances than the crouch brothers put together so not sure the crows are in a position to squeeze out a so called inside midfielder.

Ed Curnow, who's not an inside mid, had more clearances than Lyons.

how much better than kerridge do you rate him, iron? cause sam has few friends left here.......
Well, put it this way. Kerridge wasn't best 22 for us at any point in his career. He had a couple of promising games - almost entirely and hilariously against North - but he was more of an honest trier without any particular weapons. I think Lyons has more upside, much more polish, and he's one of those players who hits the scoreboard on the back of his own I50's. He's the type of player who would supplement a Cripps, not be a Cripps.

Clearly the powers that be at the crows have decided we have enough of those players. Whether or not you guys decide he's worth the currency is entirely up to you!

Schulz would be a great get on those terms - development coach and Bullants player.

This is very good news and finally suggests we are serious about our VFL side.

It's very important for the development of our young draftees that when they play in our VFL side that they are just complimentary players within the side and not expected to be key components of the side.

Lyons I'd be fine with at Carlton next year but for mine it would be absurd to consider him as a main component in a trade for Gibbs.

He's a quick and tough goal kicking midfielder - has no problem finding the ball and generally uses it well. Let's not discredit him, he's a good footballer and he'd certainly feature prominently for us at senior level if he came across.

He had a break out year in 2016 with his second half of the season very strong in particular. Despite that I'm wary of jumping on a player on the back of a break out year, particularly when that break out year comes when he's 23/24.

Granted he has had plenty injuries along the way which have not helped but if we're giving up someone of Gibbs' calibre I'd certainly want more than a pick and a player like Lyons.

Adelaide's reported preparedness to low-ball him and almost force him out the door despite his form this year shouldn't be ignored.

Gibbs 13
Tuohy maybe 20ish

Plus:

5
24
41

Give up 13 for Caleb

Give up 13 for Caleb?

No way - he's a young player who really hasn't played a solid season of football for 4 years.

He's uncontracted and says he wants to come back to Melbourne and gas nominated us - a bog standard 2nd round should be more than enough.

Kerridge a far superior player at the same point in his career as Lyons. Have a look at Lyons DE and tell me he's much more polished..

Will Lyons be a best 22 in our next premiership team? No.

Average AFL salary is 300K. Average. AFC have offered him well below average. What is AFC telling us about Lyons then? Remember, this is a club that had the money to match the Dangerfield offer (so the Cats traded) plus the cap grows in 2017. They know him better than anyone else.

I don't like the idea of giving away pick 5 on a couple of players who aren't best 22, even at a team as stacked as GWS. Thought the job that SOS did last year was brilliant so I would be happy to back him but this situation looks a lot more like the Jaksch/Whiley deal than last years trade with GWS. Marchbank looks good though and you'd be happy to bring him in, I don't rate Stewart but I haven't seen Pickett before. I presume they are going to be the 'steak knives' in the deal.

I don't like that Gibbs deal at all. Lyons is a very good player but Gibbs is worth more than that. 13 + Lyons is closer to value than giving pick 24 back as well. I doubt you do that trade.

Hrovat will be a very good pick up. Unfortunately he hasn't had much opportunity in the past two seasons (injuries haven't helped) and players like Daniel, Hunter, McLean and Dunkley have gone past him in that half forward/wing role. Good ball user and once he gets a decent run at it and some sustained game time, I think he will thrive. Seems like a lovely guy too. Next years third rounder is nothing too, good risk/reward.

Stop making sense.
