Hope SOS knows what he is doing, would hate to lose #5, a pick which in recent years has netted the likes of De Goey, Stringer, Parrish etc for some generic list fillers or talented but permanently broken lost-talents, even if we get 3 or 4 of them for a single pick. I would prefer quality over quantity but I guess we trust in SOS.

Quality v quantity is an interesting debate.

I understand your sentiment but we don't want to end up like the Tiggers either - with 5 guns and 35 average players......

It is a fine line to tread - hope SOS gets it right

Cue in the rack...by what measure? His opening run of games with MM in the side was clearly his worst patch for the year.

Beyond that he was incredibly consistent. Maddeningly consistent.

9 top 10 b&f finishes and still 28.

There are very, very few in the comp that have done that.

If Hopper comes with Marchbank, it means GWS are desperate to offload a bunch of other crap that we'll take on in addition to ease the pressure on their list. No way do they do that all things being equal, they could get pick a single figure pick from another club for him.

Really dont understand people continually saying Gibbs is lazy.

He averaged the 3rd most tackles per a game in our team with over 5 tackles a game that does not indicate lazy. He had the 3rd most tackles for the season at carlton with only Curnow and Cripps having more.

The next best was Kruezer that's right a ruckman out did all other players and he was 30 below Gibbs for the year.

So if Gibbs is lazy what does that make the rest of the team!!!!

We would be crazy to trade him we only have 3 A Grade midfielders Cripps, Gibbs and Murphy and people want to get rid of 1.

For us:

13 for Gibbs IS a very good trade.
Is it?
Pick 13 turns into 15 after academy, here's a list of pick 15's since 2008:
2008: Mitch Brown (Geel, now Ess)
2009: Christian Howard (Bull)
2010: Billie Smedts (Geel)
2011: Brandon Ellis (Rich)
2012: Taylor Garner (Nth)
2013: Zak Jones (Syd)
2014: Jarrod Garlett (GC)
2015: Daniel Rioli (Rich)

It's easy to get excited about draft picks, but please tell me who on that list you think is anywhere near as good as Gibbs?

No , that is just an opinion.

You don't have to agree on everything. People can be competant and have a differing view on marginal things.

Before, we were clearly incompetent. Now, we are a competent club.

This makes no sense.

You can be a competent list manager and still make mistakes. Agreed?

The competence of a list manager will be assessed on their body of work. Agreed?

The beneficial outcome of an individual trade should be assessed on that individual trade. Agreed?

Most posters on this forum are saying is that Gibbs is worth more than pick 13. Agreed?

That Gibbs is conditional?

He just gave you his latest example of this when he took Murphy's injury as his cue to put HIS cue in the rack.

No-one is saying he is not talented, just that his effort and output has been continuously unreliable.

Pick 13 is not an insult to Gibbs. It is a bloody good pick for a 28yo.
Gibbs is 27. I've had to say that far too many times now.

On Gibbs giving up after Murphy went down, I suggest you watch the rest of the game that happened in (the Geelong one). Dragged us over the line with 34 disposals, 9 clearances, 7 tackles, 2 goals, chucked his guts up after the game.

Or look at his best game of the year where he nearly dragged us over the line again vs Sydney, late in the season well after Murphy went down.

I for one would rather keep Gibbs rather than get pick 13. But it is a close call. Age is 28 (by next season). You only deliver 1-2 more years of good football, 1-2 more years of average football. Put that up against a slightly risky draft pick but who may give you 10 years. We swap 2 good years of football for potentially 10 more good years of football. Yes, draft picks are risky.

If you look at Gibbs career and then plotted him into a future draft bsed on what he had done at Carlton in his ten years here..you would most likely slot him him in 10-20. He would never go near pick one given what he has delivered. 2 very good years football. I'm thankful for the 2.

But the reason I wouldnt trade him is our midfield is very weak numbers-wise and the damage it would cause would be significant to a nicely developing list. Our aim should be to beef up the midfield this year with quality.

Go baggers!

Is that the natural progression of the discussion?

Apologies, that was a bit snappy of me.

Point I am trying to illustrate is that you don't have to take a massive leap to see Whiley performing in a similar fashion to Lyons had this year if he was at the Crows.

The fact that they are the same age, play the same position and Whiley basically outperformed Lyons last year shows that there may not be a whole lot between the two.

I don't think we should be trading in 24 year old fringe players that have had decent years in decent sides.

Gibbs has 4-5 more years. Strong, durable player.

Well of course most people on this forum are saying Gibbs is worth more than Pick 13. It is a Carlton fan forum for heavens sake.

I'm sure on the Adelaide forum most people are saying Pick 13 is more than enough for Gibbs. And Lyons is worth 24.

I'm also sure Brisbane fans would want a Top 10 for Rockliff and Tiger fans want a 1st rounder and a player for Lids.

On the rest, i think we are both being a bit pedantic. My overall point is we are now run by a competant coach and list manager and they will only trade Gibbs for 13 if they think it advantages us.

We will have to disagree. One improved, one went backwards. On available information, Whiley reached his ceiling last year, Lyons hasn't even approached his. Crows had depth and Lyons kept them out.

Can we stop talking about Whiley and Lyon etc? Kind of seems pointless. Let's focus on quality.

Sorry just my view

Lyons is rumoured to be in our sights therefore can be discussed. Ignore it.

Mate, i've watched every Carlton game this century, and some of the last:)

Pick 13 is a bloody good pick for us in our situation.

And hell, without Gibbs we might tumble from say, 14th.....to 14th.
