I understand the rationale, but I'd suggest that neutral observers would have Sloane as one of the top 5-10 players in the comp, with Gibbs floating somewhere around the 45-50 mark.

So I'd want more than pick 13.

We'll see how it plays out. If history is any guide, this will probably fall through and the crows will end up with some handy fringe player from somewhere who ends up playing SANFL at the expense of David Mackay anyway.

He was out of contract and desperately wanted to get home, he could of walked out for free if you guys didn't take what was offered.

Gibbs is neither out of contract or desperately wanting to get home.

Crows are trying to convince him to help them get to the next level so a premium price is what's required not what's fair or a win/win.

We wont give a flying **** about what's fair or what is a win/win for both clubs under these circumstance.

All a load of shit. Lyons is not going to be anything special and an 11 pick upgrade is not worth trading a contracted player with Gibbs' ability.

FWIW, I don't think Gibbs will win a flag at Carlton either, but if we're going to let him go for shitty deals like that we're better off keeping him.

Not pointing the bone at you specifically BF, but this is the type of post that I dont get. I'll go throught it:
How does that type of deal kill us? Two players that fit our so-called reset demographic, one who has played 20 games in the past season, and we gain another first rounder.
Gibbs' calibre? He's in our top 3, what does that equate to elsewhere? Tom Mitchell is not Top 3 at Sydney, but will cost you a high pick in the same circumstances. I think people lose sight of his value to others and where he fits on the quality scale.
Lyons isnt the messiah, but hes a pretty good player, 20 games shows that, and they have a number of players like him, would we pay him big coin?
IMHO, we dont need special just yet, we need depth first. Depth gets us special - build it and they will come. Our demographic is to build depth within the age range we impose. Gibbs doesnt fulfil that, Lyons and Ellis Yolmen do.
FWIW - I'm not a huge fan of Ellis-Yolmen, but I'd do the trade and if there were other options available that fit our demographic, like say Grigg, Doedee, Kelly, Dear or others, I'd be more than happy to investigate including them in a trade also. The depth trades we are doing are better than selecting prospect kids IMO.

BUT, If we did this trade I would also trust in SOS to do something special. Stay with me here, Brisbane who now have a priority pick too, want 2 Top 10's, but 2 firsts and a fringe player might work also. 2/29 for 5/13/42/player. You then on trade 2/29 for 7/15/GWS 5. Freo also want two firsts as they will currently give up 3 for McCarthy and then have nothing for a while. 3/40 for 7/15/55. They get McCarthy for 7 and still have a first at 15. 40 goes to Bullies for Hrovat.

Voila:

Out: Gibbs, 5, 24, 42, 55, fringe player.
In: 3, Lyons, EY, GWS, GWS, GWS, GWS, GWS, Hrovat.

Works on paper anyway!!!

As for 2017, he has met a performance clause in his contract so it's entirely his call as to whether he plays next year.
