I do love that Caddy flies the flag at the first sign of a push and shove.
Maybe. Not sure it actually means much in modern footy to be honest.

Means bugger all. It is when the whips are cracking and the ball is in dispute that we need blokes flying the flag.Maybe. Not sure it actually means much in modern footy to be honest.
Have some take it to the bank stuff on Mitchell. (Will not reveal source other than to say its immediate family)
Trade would've been done last year, but the Hawks refused to pay any portion of his 600k salary.
Mitchell thought this whole thing was dead in the water then and was actually blindsided by Clarko's approach this year.
Mitchell is actually pissed off about this deal and it only won't happen this year if the Hawks don't agree to pay at least $200k of the salary.
He is being forced out merely because the O'Meara and Mitchell salaries had already been agreed back in July and the Hawks TPP was worked out around at least 2 of the older boys retiring. When that did not happen this was Plan B.
Mitchell will return to Melbourne in 4-5 years time to senior coach at Hawthorn, but he's really jacked off how it's him that is being forced out when he considers 3 or 4 other senior players are finished and should've been moved on.
But he is really happy to be working with Simpson because they are such close mates. He would not join any other club.
Mitchell personally believes he has 2 years left in him, so retire and assistant coach is not a consideration.
Really shabby way to treat a champion, but no hiding behind Mitchell now for Lewis and co.

Interesting reading on the Mitchell situation and his move. Not entirely rosy as it is being made out to be:
Hard to get a spot in the midfield when an 8 foot giant is locked in there.I have no doubt other clubs are telling Lang and Caddy that they will never develop at Geelong with Dangerfield and Selwood there. If last year is a repeat of this year, there is some truth to that, and Geelong has to take these raids on our players seriously. We are no longer the place to come if you want to develop as a player.
Geelong really does need to prioritise midfield time for these two, along with Menegola.

I think the Mitchell one was always going to be easier than JOM - their first rounder for him seems about right.Interesting.
Hope they don't lure Mitchell as cheaply as this though.

Lang isn't even 21 yet so there is no reason to throw him up for trade, he does look quality.
He stagnated for sure, just like a whole host of the younger players. Why that has happened is a question only the club and/or players could answer. He certainly didn't take the step forward in 2016 I'd hoped for, but I'd love to see him get more midfield time.
Mainly because he's actually a midfielder.
Was discussing this with a mate who's a pretty astute observer this morning on the way to work. Hawthorn trading out veterans, at times very decorated ones, is not new. They were doing it in the mid-1980s. There are plenty of very respected premiership players who when the time came, they moved on. It didn't stop them accumulating silverware either.
I thought it was bummers. How certain are we that Caddy doesnt want to go to the tigers? I know when we drafted him we were not his preferred club, does anyone remember who was, was it Collingwood?
Listen to Dermie talk, Tuck , Plough they didn't have the fairytale finish. Its a new world and draft picks are collateral. Players are a finite resource...so the smart time to move them on is while they still have something to offer but the end of the road is with sight. Great for a club who picks up a FA. Club gets some value, new clubs gets value , player gets opportunity. The painful truth is you have to sell when their value is high for max gain.
We are a loyal club and it probably would not sit well with our supporter group... but there are one or two players that we should have moved on a couple of years ago. Thats done but I really dont think we should pay overs for players close to 30. BD as a FA great.
Why do people have so much trouble spelling players names?
Deludio, Cuckatoo, Smelts... Does my head in.
