That's not in question, the question is whether whoever we land with pick 13 will be ready to make an impact while our premiership window is open over the next few years.

Hence my last sentence. I don't think Gibbs is the answer to any of our problems.

Fantasy land is thinking the crows have the power. Carlton either get fair/overs, keep their man or bury him which won't happen so they can't lose.
You want a 28 year old on 600K that doesn't want to be there. Good for you. Enjoy good draft picks for the next decade.

Why make a trade early for Rockliff, Hartlett etc when their value keeps dropping?

I would hope we wouldn't be into hartlett anyway. Would rather pay the extra for Rockliff. Probably because I would rather lock in Rockliff and really force the hand of Carlton and see if they really want to force Gibbs to stay in Melbourne

If you guys had pick 8-10 I reckon it would be a pretty easy swap, but pick 13 will actually be pick 15-16 after academy picks which is a bit low.

Considering with Gibbs you'll probably be top 4 next year, why don't you just give us this and next years first rounders. Basically pick 15-16 this year and 17-19 next year. Not like those picks will crack your side in the next 3 years while you are contending for a flag with Gibbs as your 2nd/3rd best mid

Nah, that's way overs, and we need next year's first rounder to give you for Cripps when he decides to come to us

I was going to comment on this, is it just a coincidence that the week Roo goes off air, Rucci tees off? 5aa are too soft to pull up their "mate".

Quite frankly I think it was pretty poor of Triple M to pull their key presenters in trade week, it's a pretty big week news wise and I suspect their probably going to be down on their listenership to 5aa, esp in the evenings.

Unless Roo is down in Melbourne, cracking skulls together, then it's fine

Jake Niall reported the Bolton has told SOS he only wants players to stay for the right reasons. Still think we land him but the scenario we have at the moment doesn't afford us a chance at a second ready made. We need two. Gibbs will be great but just one component.

When assessing Gibbs ability you need to take into account how sh1t we are and how good you have to be to not be ruined by us.

Imagine what Abletts career would have been like had be come to Carlton and got Fev or Houlihan as a mentor

That argument doesn't hold water when you look at Matty Wright.

Do you guys think we should just walk away from this deal and go for Rockliff. I know there's still almost a week to go but it's been an absolute stale mate since Monday. all we have seen is reports saying carlton have rejected our offers and want McGovern, Cameron or Lever. Which is absolutely ridiculous who knows if there's any truth at all to these reports. but It really does seem to feel like this is going nowhere and Gibbs is going to be forced to stay at Carlton

ouldnt care less about his girlfriend to be honest
We aren't running a crache, we're running a football club
20 years ago I would have agreed. And when you had a suburban comp these issues never really arose.

I know what the pull of family is like , I have been subject to the daily questions of ''how long'' . You know your wife is supportive of you , you know your kids enjoy where they live, but there is an invisible barrier. There is the constant packing of suitcases each school holidays. There is the constant ''are we there yet , are we there yet'' as you drive across the Hay Plains. There is bunking up 4 to a room . All which you tell yourself you can cope with and manage , because the job puts food on the table, they should be grateful right? But it wears on you. So yes its easy to say ''put them in a crEche '' but the reality is so much more.

But I guess this isn't an issue in Ogres world.

I know how we keep our first round pick from this year ... trade good players. You can't do both.

Jenkins for Rockliff
Next year's 1st + Lyons for for Gibbs

It'd be good but I can see why Jenkins would have an issue, he could have potentially got another 200k (apparently) if he had gone to Brisbane instead of signing with us. Everyone else would be pleased with the deal.

It also doesn't show where we are trading Mackay to, which is really a rookie mistake on your part.

Absolutely. We are probably wasting our time on this and Carlton sound like they are being childish. They can force Gibbs to stay and use 5 on the Marchbank deal if they like. Let's go after Rocky and put time into seeing if there are any other opportunities out there, like an Aaron Hall

Carlton want both. That's the problem.
I think the problem is we want to get good players in, keep one of our first rounders, and not trade anyone out.

You have to pay the piper at some stage. I don't think you fold and hand it all over in the first week though.

Expect us to come up a little and them to come down a little ... but I am quite happy to trade out a forward like Jenkins who we can live without - for a midfielder like Rockliff that we desperately need. Similarly, I'm happy to give up two firsts for a second back next year (for Edwards) for Gibbs.

Hope we do everything we can to have the full crack at the flag next year.

Thise picks are worthless because they won't be playing when we are contending hey? To use that logic carlton should accept unders because gibbs won't be playing when you are next contending. While you are at it you might as well give us every player on your list over 28.

Please move along.

But Gibbs is contracted for 3 years.

I want us to trade Gibbs (unlike most Carlton supporters) and find it more interesting talkin opposition fans about reasonable deals than Carlton ppl who think we are getting brad crouch and your first.

I've said I'd do pick 13 (15) and next years second for Gibbs, but if SOS is being stubborn and it really came down to it wouldn't you be better off giving up 2 late first rounders?

You have a lot of players in the 25-30 age range at the peak of their careers, the right piece could mean a premiership, Gibbs could be that man.

Yes you'd be selling your future a bit but isn't it worth a roll of the dice?

Yeah - that won't happen - and I don't hate Jenkins. Feel the same way about Lyons.

But to answer your second part - surely Mackay, Douglas, Henderson and Grigg are about the same as two first round picks? :drunk:

Hopefully that gets my cred back.

Is it going to end up as simple as
Adelaide in Gibbs
Carlton in Marchbank and any other gws players SOS feels he is allowed to take.
GWS in pick 13?

There maybe later picks swapped around. But it seems that players these days say they want to go to whatever team and they get there.

Adelaide just stalling to make rucci look more stupid than he already is.

Yes. I'd do our two firsts for your second next year and that is probably where this will end up. The only other way it gets done is giving up one our young guns which would be very stupid on our part. Sell the picks, keep the youth.

No it's not worth our future. There will be midfielders who will change clubs next year and we don't need to sell our soul for a 28 year old. Would rather pay a huge price for a player like Shiel from GWS who is out of contract next year.

Deal.

Should we inform the clubs?

I saw the 2017 calendars out last weekend but didn't think to take a look.

Guess who's on the 2017 Carlton calendar?

Kreuzer? check.
Cripps? check (i think it's him)
Murphy? check.
