What do you guys know about why he wants to come back to Adelaide?

Like someone said above it shouldn't be that hard to get support raising bubs. Any more detail you guys might know?

He cant resist the lures of Rundle mall.

This is absolutely the right stance by carlton well done silvagni. About time. We just cannot afford to lose gibbs for anything less than a massive win for CFC it would absolutely gut the team, thank god he is contracted or else we would have been bent over big time.
Maybe not, if he wasn't contracted he would have left as a FA and we would've got a first round compensation (pick 6)?

If that's the case then that would be his real current market value to Carlton - take that to mediation or GAGF.

That ship had sailed in 2014.

I doubt we'll hear anything more until some time next week.
SOS would have given Adelaide some options and left little scope for any further negotiation. What would be the point of talking?

I have a 19 month old son and have amazing support from family from both sides. Raising a child without a good support network around would be ridiculously hard. Unless you have a child of your own, you wouldn't understand how hard it is. It's not as simple as hiring a nanny. Even if I could afford it, there is no way in hell I would let my son be looked after by anyone other than a family member. I can understand why he wants to go home.

It's pretty common with the first child. I married a WA girl (live in Vic, but not a Vic) and she really wanted to nest with the first. WE managed to convince my employer to try living in perth for a year in 2008 and it worked out well; the job sucked and second she hated being back. I think it's just a normal thing for young mothers to want to be close to their support base.

Or there is something sinister to it I guess.

We won't keep both though. One of them would be going to GWS for Marchbank.

I was never of the opinion that pick 5 should be involved with any Marchbank deal. My preference would be to keep 5 and 13 and use them both on midfielders where we're crying out for depth and quality.

But what I want and what we do are two different things.

In the real world pick 13 and maybe a player like Lyons is prob what Gibbs is worth. Adelaide fans think that is fair and it should get the deal done.

HE IS CONTRACTED....
HE IS A REQUIRED PLAYER....

Being fair has no basis in this arguement. If Adelaide wish to prize him from us the ball is in their court. How much do you want him???

Not that much, would be more than happy to walk away and let your coach deal with it

Obviously it is a shifting paradigm and what once was may not be again.

To explain in more detail, it was back in 1907 that the foundation for what we are seeing was laid ... not deliberately of course, almost by accident. When I say accident I don't mean accident by the definition that most people use, but in a way that Mark Twain once used it when he said .....

TODN I think the quote you were looking for me to complete is:
There are no accidents, all things have a deep and calculated purpose; sometimes the methods employed by Providence seem strange and incongruous, but we have only to be patient and wait for the result: then we recognize that no others would have answered the purpose, and we are rebuked and humbled.
- "The Refuge of the Derelicts" published in Fables of Man

. . . but I think there is a bit much Providence for my tastes and the patient bit has too many echos of MM. ;)

Barrett in his Sliding Doors column has actually had a dig at the Crows & backed SOS. Glad I was sitting down.

First journo I've seen actually say it should be a fair bit more than 13. Other than Cornes until his buddy Sloane must've got in his ear.

Who'd have thought old purple would be the voice of reason. The trade period really is crazy.

Working beautifully.

I think it is becoming widely known that Adelaide have borked this up big time.

Whilst there where whispers over the past 8 weeks of Bryce wanting to return to Adelaide for family reasons it was not considered serious. We were taken by surprise at the Crows announcement on Monday as we believed the talk would pass and Bryce indicated all was ok in his exit meeting.

The club and Bryce have spoken over the past couple of days and it's been made clear that if any trade were to occur it would need to significantly benefit the club - Bryce whilst preferring to return to Adelaide will accept our position and fulfill his contract if this is the case.

We do expect Adelaide to up the offer early next week.

Thanks for the update BT.

Just trying to work through the options open to Adelaide, in regards to a possible trade:

1. This years and next years first picks....................Adelaide would be shot down should they buckle to this.
2. #13 & one of McGovern or Cameron....................Adelaide won't do it.
3. #13 and a fringe player.....................................Carlton won't do it.
4. #13 and next years second................................Carlton won't be happy but not out of the question if we're happy to see Gibbs go.

Just seems to me that Adelaide may have to get creative, as some have said. None of the above seem to fit.
Or...or...how do we get creative and offer Adelaide something that could snag us the two first rounders?

If the Crows can turn their late 2nd rounder into an early one, that might work.

Getting there. If the media start to jump on board that can only help us IMO. Love the idea of Adelaide really having the screw turned on them, sick of their shenanigans.

Let's see how much they really want Gibbs. Speaking of which, I'd bet he's feeling a little pale ATM.

Staggers me this whole situation...
Here you have a contracted player who has received all the club's support, sponsorship exposure & remunerated generously on a 5 year, $3.25million agreement with his employer (knowing full well that he is likely to have a baby in that period) now seeking a move home because his partner can't find support!? Please!
I mean forgive my lack of sympathy but if my partner was earning $650k a year and living the high life I would find a way to make it work. (at least until his contract expires.)
For god's sake buy your bloody parents a pad in Melbourne and put them on as full time nannies if you have to....you can certainly afford it!
Really disappointed in Gibbs & his partner for their lack of respect in this whole saga - it's a total cop out.
