Look in this day and age of front loaded and rear loaded contracts I'd have a lot of sympathy for Carlton if Gibbs has been on a front loaded contract for the first two of the five years, and when the contract drops he wants out. But is that the case? I don't think so...
On the other hand, if he wants to move for family reasons and they haven't been stiffed on the contract then it'll happen. Why would you keep someone at a club for 3 years against their will to prove a point? People's circumstances change. What if Bryce moves to Adelaide? Turns up to play for Carlton every week. Fulfils his contractual obligations.
It's in no-one's best interests. You are correct, if Carlton want to hold Gibbs to his contract for the next three years they can. But that's a lose-lose-lose scenario. Why on earth would anyone do that?
How do you think Bryce would be feeling about SOS and his refusal to talk to the Crows (....if that's even true which I doubt)?
Do you think that he'd be feeling supported? Do you think it could possibly sour his relationship with the club?
The messaging that he would be happy to stay and play at Carlton, and it's only my opinion, is because few players want to tip a bucket on their club on the way out. (Almost) everyone wants to leave on good terms.
If Carlton hang onto him for another 3 years good luck to them. He may not even play them out, and I'm serious on that. Play a year commuting from Adelaide and then retire.
A fair trade will get done, but if not...the Crows are the least damaged. They can move onto other trade targets. Or just move on.
Carlton is stuck with someone who doesn't want to be there. That's a loss for their club, and the player.
Half the trades done every year are for contracted players. The GWS players Carlton are looking to trade in, are they all out of contract?
Don't hold your breath waiting for a response Tinman.

If we don't end up trading away 13, for those that follow this draft we'll would a swap of 13 for Gold Coasts 22 & 24 be a good move?

Bicks Jeffcrowe ??
In this draft every possibility that could land 2 very good midfield prospects and leave our late picks for a someone like SA Midfielder Jackson Lee and a promising SA tall [CHB/CHF] like Mitchell Carter or a Ruckman SA Peter Ladhams? Though I doubt the lad I like a lot Jarrod Berry would fall that low..maybe..

Totally agree that he has pace and could be great, but I feel like we are stocked on the half back line and a list profile obviously needs mids. I don't see Hampton being a full time mid.

All a moot point anyway obviously. I liked the Hampton trade last year, always easier in retrospect.

Hampton is a mid. He only played back at GWS because they have about 54 star midfielders in their squad. Get a pre-season into him and he will be a gun. The lad can play.

It's a good year to do it EC as the 2nd round is v strong and the early part of draft is even

Depends on our specific target(s) at pick 13 . It's kind of just on the edge of getting a 'slider' from top 10 like a Taranto but prob just out of range for those types

In 20s there may be the young SA boy Hayward who has come on leaps and bounds in last 2 months and guys like Powell pepper , Galluci , Drew who are good potential midfielders should be there . Then there is Florent , Witherden , Venables , Berry. One of those could slide through despite being 1st round chances

I'd do it
Didn't the Bulldogs do something similar a couple of years back? Any idea who they picked up?

Last year - after offering pick 11 and their 2nd rounder for Lobbe and getting rejected they then downgraded 11 to 2 picks in the 20s. Got Collins the key defender and Dunkley I think ( he might have been later )

Last year. Traded 11 and a future 3rd for 20 and 21. Drafted Dunkley and Collins with the picks. Dunkley was actually very good for the Doggies during the finals.

Seriously how can Richmond not cough up 8 for Prestia? You would do that all day every day.

Sorry, but maybe we should be going to GC and GWS to see what we can do about a pick upgrade that we can use to get the guy in. Then get in his ear.

He's a player that would make a massive difference to us and be miles, miles better than a 28yo Gibbs.

I'm all for recruiting Bryce, but hell Prestia is a bargain at 8 in comparison. I'd be doing whatever I could to get a pick upgrade to make it happen, and would even give 13 and next year's 2nd for this guy.

Prestia is another with "iffy" knees but...

Up to 30ish though?
No last year's was OK up to 30, several players I had time for went after, Ryan Clarke, Rhys Mathieson and Tom Cole, even Harley Balic who was a massive slider I predict will all be good contributors, last year had some really strong tall prospects that this year lacks massively.

I would be shocked if he is in Hawthorn colours next season. Seems to be a bit of bad blood between the club and Lewis. Hawks might have just pissed down the drain most of the reputation they have built in the last decade or so.
Was he not happy with being asked if he wanted a trade to free up salary cap space? It does seem unusual for the club to ask the two guys who finished top 2 in the best and fairest if they want to leave.

Buggar Gibbs - #13 & Lyons or his traded pick for prestia.

Carlton's entire thread on the Gibbs trade is laughable. They're setting themselves up for serious disappointment when the trade goes through
Id be happy if it does fall through ... we can simply hand over 13 for rocky which noble would be yelling out ... 'start the car' . Rocky is a much better player imho.

I've seen reports they'd accept anything sub 35
