Welcome to last night's discussion.

It's still as perplexing as it was yesterday unfortunately.

Back-ended contracts for some of our darlings was a possible explanation, but doesn't account for all of our surplus.

I'd like to think our management team arent so inept that they suddenly realize "Oh sh!t.... We have no salary cap left.. quick trade Caddy for nothing."

So around 800K spare after Tuohy, yet we are trading Caddy because we have no space in the Salary Cap (according to Trade Radio).... This whole Caddy thing doesnt make sense.
Not really as we know some players are on back ended contracts and some on front ended, would only take 16 players to earn extra 50k and salary space would be gone now wont work out that evenly but dare say Dangerfield and Hawkins are getting a fair wedge this year...

Someone explain to me how our Salary Cap is about to burst?? We are gonna lose Bartel, Enright, Smedts, Kersten and Vardy in one year and only bringing in Tuohy.
Back ended contracts and pay rises.

If we trade a contracted Caddy for 24 or 27 it justifies everyones' thoughts that Wells has lost it and its time to go.

It's that simple really.

If this trade goes through - it means our recruitment staff are inept.
Surely Wells & Co would sit back and take note of the hard line stance clubs like Carltank etc take during trade and think we're doing something wrong? If Caddy goes without a decent player coming in it'll undo everything we did last year.
From a club that had unlimited talls we virtually have zero depth.
If you are pinning your hopes on winning a flag using your CHB & FB as forwards, clearly someone has fkd up.

And to those jumping up and down like 'galahs,' if you could cease overrating Caddy it would be much appreciated. Pick 24 is about right.

something else is going on, that's why it doesnt make sense.. I just hope that Caddy pick isn't going to GC for Ablett..

Getting ready for Nat Fyfe. Apparently loves the surf coast down here. "wink wink"

Has to be more pieces to the puzzle regarding the Caddy trade otherwise can't make much sense of it.
Must be another player we are targeting with the pick or collective picks.
Find out soon enough i suppose.

I think Caddy is a solid player, not overrating him. The trade just doesnt make sense. We are in "win now" mode and Caddy is best 22. So why trade him for a pick in the mid-late twenties when he's contracted.

Why would you need to trade him? His contracted so keep him to it u unless someone is willing to pay overs. We pay the overs so make others do so also

I'd like to know why/if our middle-tier are being paid like rockstars.
I would dare say that Dangerfield, Selwood,Hawkins, Motlop, Taylor,Mackie,Lonergan would take up 50%+ of our clubs cap leaving not a lot for likes of Duncan, Caddy, Guthrie so they are probably who we are paying extra too....

You get he is contracted for two years and you only trade those for massive overs. Overs is not the same pick that melksham got Essendon.

The way the salary cap works, I think it is entirely reasonable, that a team that won 17 games, has the best player in the league, the All Australian Captain and an All Australian CHB and FF that we are close to the cap.....
Even after losing five players? Oh and the team that won the flag has room to bring players in.

I'm well aware he's contracted...

The shits and decided to catch a train to Richmond.

So let me get this right. We lose a few players, gain one. Clear a lot of cap space.

Yet posters here in the 'know' say that we need it due to back ended deals, pay rises etc.

We were already at the minimum list spots. Players will need to come in and not just the minimum draft selections.

before last year the club locked in a number of player contracts so they could find the space to get the 4 players we did, no surprise we dont have any cap left...

We dont have the salary he would get elsewhere...
The biggest problem with Fyfe will be that I think it's likely that Fremantle match a bid meaning you are going to need currency in order to land him. I don't think there is any realistic prospect we would.
