The biggest freeloader on this junket is Port Power- the AFL and our State Govt and associated bodies such as Tourism SA, educational bidies etc etc are financing all this and more with our scarce govt money. Spin it any way you like Jay but this whole thing is just another extension of the State govt being Poort's largest sponsor

Is that you Leon Byner? o_O I suppose because Christopher Pyne is a supporter of the Crows we get special treatment from him? Or the Doggies cashed in when Gillard was PM? Or Lions cashed in with Rudd?

Good on Port for pursuing a different expansion approach. I think they've potentially been screwed over by the Suns though. They've got team colours that align with China, they've got huge chinese companies sponsoring them and the Gold Coast is an internationally renowned tourist destination. I think if anyone cashes in on this it will be the Suns.

This story is so ridiculous: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...-antidoping-charges-loom-20161024-gs9k94.html

"Highly incriminating text messages sent by Lachie Whitfield to his former partner Sammi Nowland have been dismissed by the Greater Western Sydney footballer and two former club officials as a fabricated attempt to deal with a volatile and problematic girlfriend."

Sounds to me like a convenient lie

The Suns will cash in on this with what looks like our state government sponsoring them. As far as the pear looking at a different expansion approach, they will go anywhere and do anything as long as they don't have to pay. (That should be their creed)

I hope in 2018 they will place in Mogadishu or Aleppo

hahaha just had to explain to a delusional Geelong supporter that Steven Motlop is a useless dud that goes missing in finals.

Before that he is like, please enlighten us

Ummm Sure mate

Elimination Final 2011 v Fremantle- 7 disposals 1 goal
Qualifying Final 2013 v Fremantle- 20 disposals 1 goal
Qualifying Final 2014 v Hawthorn- 13 disposals and scoreless
Semi Final 2014 v North Melbourne- 14 disposals 2 behinds
Preliminary Final 2016 v Sydney- 13 disposals 1 behind

hope that has enlightened him a bit :p hahaha

Are they all the finals he has played in that time or are you picking and choosing?

He was huge in the second half of this years final against Hawthorn; he also finished runner up in the B&F last year

He can play

I guess it depends if there were any actual drug testing going on?

If it's just based on the theoretical notional concept of the possibility that there could be a random doping inspection then it could be true

because it seems very heavy handed response to an out of the blue risk

So he didn't hide out at Lambert's place for a few days? Would be easy to corroborate.

Port Adelaide has shown interest in drafting the SANFL's leading goal-kicker Brett Eddy as a rookie-listed mature-aged recruit.
The 27-year-old has spoken with Power officials about a possible move to Alberton and joining an AFL list for the first time.

Eddy is coming off an impressive season for South Adelaide where he booted 74 goals and was named in the SANFL's Team of the Year.

It seems like an inconvenient lie to me. If it was an attempt to deal with a volatile and problematic girlfriend, why the **** would you send her something that can implicate you and the involved officials with ASADA and face 4 year bans? How ****ing stupid do they think ASADA are? Makes me think we're dealing with a collective IQ that rivals a tree stump.

It's the sort of reaction that makes you think that it may not be the first time Lachie has been out on the pingers. If he thought he was at risk and had no strikes, surely he self reports. With this kind or response, it makes you wonder if he was already sitting on 2 strikes. To give that kind of ammunition to a "volatile and problematic girlfriend" seems like the most ridiculous risk management strategy ever conceived.

Sure, but why would he self report if his motivation was to lay low for a couple of days whilst a loo-la vacated the premises?

Remember this only came up because she tried to drop him in the shit by reporting the text messages; until that point it might have been a quiet ruse between them

I would imagine some of the surrounding circumstances would confirm or undermine their alibi

I get that, if he had nothing to worry about, then he'd surely send no messages to anybody that have the capacity to severely impact his career, let alone to a volatile and problematic girlfriend.

If he viewed her as a volatile and problematic person, then giving her this ammunition seems a really bad idea to me. They're now trying to declare the narrative of her being a girlfriend scorned. If Whitfield viewed her as being somebody that would drop him in the shit, then why would he give her the chance of doing that to that to him?

Girlfriend's are only one left up toilet seat too many to go from sweet and loving to volatile and problematic.

I think you are assuming that he thought about in those terms, which he wouldn't have done in the circumstances had his story been true

Caro's latest article raises a few inconvenient questions about this story though

If Paul Stewart was an afc player he would most likely be a 200 game player.

hahaha watch and see people Port Power will convert the Chinese into AFL lovers. LOL

Omg what a team to get to promote our game overseas.

I can't see the game being anything other than a novelty. Port will give away 10,000 tickets to chinese auskickers and their families and actual ticket sales will be ex pats, Aussie tourists and those Aussies who fly to China specifically for the game.

How do you work that out? Shaun McKernan seems the closest parallel on our list. Second round tall who underachieves but always seemed promising.

Is our state government throwing money into this venture. They always seem to give the PAP's a handout. I never hear the Crows getting handouts.
