Warner is world class, the way he hits the ball from the get go is freakish and he picks up length incredibly well, but I still think Hayden was better especially in his prime .. I think he was a far more intimidating force that warner

It wasn't until I commented in the other thread about India and england that I realized warner has such a poor overseas record.

The only nations where he has a good record are the UAE, SA and Australia. The UAE looks more and more like an outlier given his records in India, SL and the West Indies. SA is fairly expected to a degree given that their pitches so closely resemble ours, though admittedly the quality of the attacks he's faced there balances out any advantage he gets from familiarity.

The guy is a very good player but of openers I've seen, the only thing that stands out is his speed of scoring.

I didn't realise his away record was so poor! As it stands his away record is:
2004 r @ 38.54, with 4 x 100s.

If we remove SA and the UAE it drops to:
1222 r @ 29.1 with zero 100s.

That's the UK, NZ, India, SL and the WI combined.

How many matches has he played though
6 or 7 in England, 2 in NZ, 3 in the WI and 3 in SL?

And? you wouldn't say there is a pattern across 9 seamed friendly pitches on England and NZ, and the 12 or so in India, SL and WI?

First tours are notoriously hard, sure it's not a great record but second tour is necessary before judging him

What makes Warner's limited-overs record better than Kohli's, exactly?

No idea, but I'd be interested to see the breakdown in terms of batting first and batting 2nd. I know Kholi is elite batting 2nd (chasing), but always feel he doesn't score that many when setting a target.

So Australia he's been incredible, in south Africa against the best bowling attack in the world he was one of the main reasons we won

Scored a century against Pakistan in the UAE
WI is poor
NZ India and SRI Lanka were all his first time touring and he wasn't great, surely would be better second time round.. plenty of great players struggled in their first tours

37 in England isn't great but it's not horrible for an opener with a brand new duke..

Averages 42 batting fist and 64 batting second

Actually better than I thought, would have thought it would have been in the 30's at best.

Kohl is a gun ODI bat.

A lot of Indian fans posting on here I see, fact remains India are shit with no batsmen or bowlers who would hold a candle to the Aussies.

Graeme Smith averaged 62 in England
Murali Vijay averages 40 in England
Tom Latham averages 37 in England
Alviro Peterson averaged 61 in England
Azhar Ali averages 34 in England
Gayle averaged 36 in England

That's from a quick look at a handful of established openers. obviously a very small cross section but whichever way you look at it, Warner's record is mediocre there.

At the moment the breakdown of his stats looks a bit laxman-esque.

He had the curious habit of absolutely blitzing it against the best attack of his day wherever he met them, and was good in general at home, and in most other scenarios he was relatively average.

Which is rather ironic given that when Australia plays India away from home, they are absolute sanitary pads with no bowlers or batsmen who can hold a candle to India.

Can't wait to hear wade say 'nice Gary' as he reaches the rare '0-500' landmark and India's number 9 carts him for his 15th boundary of the afternoon session.

I'm Australian, and Warner has an abysmal record outside of Australia.

England- 37 is passable but it is only passable.
SL- horrific!
NZ- even worse than horrific
India- terrible average of 27.
SA- closest to Australian conditions, decent average. Similarly SA players have great records in Aus.
UAE/Pak- Decent but should have made big hundreds.

So really he's got 1 or 2 out of 6 that are good outside of Australia.

Aussies are going to win in India, we have 3 of the best batsmen of the generation and our bowling is Elite. Even on Indias doctored pitches we will blitz them, and that idiot of a captain is going to be made to look like a U/14 against our lot.

If we win 1 test I'll be amazed.

Not going to happen.

So it's on par with a few other openers and down on Smith and Peterson who's records are probably poor in Australia or not as good at home then

Given how terrible most this team is in England, 37 is acceptable for the time being.
I think I'd accept our top 6 going at 37 in England at the moment!

while I agree his numbers aren't great, he's only got a small sample size in every other country. still has plenty of time to correct it
